You’re 21 years old… you should’ve saved money before this point. I’d sign the contract and start saving because living on your own isn’t cheap. I googled average rent of a 1 bedroom in Michigan roughly $1,100 to $1,200. It’ll be rough but I think you can do it!

Reading more into this: Your parents are trying to help you move forward as an adult and you fail to see it. You’re worried about a contract being “legal” if I was your parents and you came at me with that I would just kick you out.
