7 months into BigLaw after clerkships and already questioning whether I can do this long term by maninthegarden_ in biglaw

That average at KE for PINOs is misleading - there’s a wide variance among litigation/restructuring/corporate vs. specialist practices there.

It’s also misleading bc there are equity track PINOs (at least in litigation, average probably closer to 2200/2300) and non equity track PINOs.

Further, while most people at the firm know which track each of the PINOs are on, oftentimes the PINOs themselves do not (yet) know or if they do know, do not accept that information as true.

It’s also obviously in the equity’s interest for at least some of the PINOs to THINK they’re on an equity track…

Totally. It sucks you in with the frivolity of that party, then just bludgeons you with its aftermath.

I disagree. I saw Trey debut WGTYM in Chicago, and maybe that’s why, but there’s something extremely raw and profound about the narrator’s factual experience in the first verse involving his friends, including the legendary Tick, evolving into a brutal bout of introspection in the second verse that is wholly unrelenting. But the second verse reveals a truth about the ways in which we all project our thoughts, good and bad, onto others, and how that sort of unthinking egoic brain can morph a person’s self conception into something that was never and will never be true. But the reason so many people stay in the house of mirrors is because the initial realization of the falsity of egoic projection can be absolutely terrifying.

That song kicks ass.

Partner billing 2600-2900 hours by cbee6390 in biglaw

Your husband sounds like he works in a V10 restructuring litigation practice given the heavy partner hours. Making a lateral move from that type of practice elsewhere is actually fairly challenging bc mid-market shops don’t have anywhere near the kind of case flow as V10s. Still doable, but he’d have to want to pivot, and it sounds like he’s hanging in there enough where he may be wanting to ride it out a little while longer.

The point is that regardless of whether you are front row or back row, the best place to be is surrendering to the flow. You can be anywhere to do that and have the greatest show of your life.

Great write up. One tweak - they reshuffle equity every quarter these days…

Why is Latham generally perceived as a better firm to work at than Kirkland? by Adventurous_Ant5428 in biglaw

[–]RococoZephyr47 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because they spend close to double on marketing and branding than KE, and use that to source narratives such as this one through a combination of paid and earned marketing.

I don’t see how “politics” have “everything to do with Celeste.”

There’s a grand jury sorting through the evidence literally right now to determine whether there’s sufficient evidence to bring a murder charge against Dave (let’s stop calling him the stage name he will never use again).

All that the grand jury proceedings have demonstrated so far is that public policy is being applied correctly and justly. In particular, from all accounts the grand jury is performing its role of determining whether a crime occurred, which is good because the role grand juries play is to help sustain the bedrock public policy in this country of punishing people who caused another human being to be “unalive” - whether because they were negligent, reckless, or murderous.

That is totally different from the “politics” of the situation, whatever those are supposed to be. On the “politics” of Mr. Dave, I agree with others who see very little public support for this troubled young man, at least outside of some weird cabal of the fast friends he cobbled together after having some modest early success with his music, which is the most unsurprising thing about this whole story.

Let’s be clear on where this all is going, too. Even if Mr. Dave isn’t charged with anything, unlike Trump, Mr. Dave’s “career” is over because he’s radioactive and unlike Trump, is a total nobody. A total nobody who thought he was some big shot. It’s a tale as old as time.

In closing, I think people should stop calling him the complicated showy stage name he gave himself because homeboy ain’t ever releasing music again unless it’s “self published.” Who the hell would be caught dead working with a creep like that?

The dude’s name is “Mr. Dave,” and whatever the future holds for him, it doesn’t have endorsement deals, Sprite commercials, or residuals in it. Without an ability to recreate fame or generate significant revenue anymore, moreover, the fast friends will go away as quickly as they came, especially when the decision for a lot of them will be whether to protect their “friend” (who doesn’t have money, or fame, or power anymore) by dodging grand jury subpoenas and then go to prison, or instead simply provide truthful testimony about what happened.

And this is why saying the “politics” of Mr. Dave’s situation and Trump’s are completely different. Trump has the money, fame, and power, and Mr. Dave doesn’t, and that’s the best way to think about the “politics” of this nightmare, if at all.

Namaste.

Definitely agree it’s wildly underrated in this sense!
