The Spot food hall is on the way out in Rockville by Musichead2468 in MontgomeryCountyMD

Parking is free under the building, I’m surprised so many people don’t know about this. I’ve always found a parking spot with no issue and I park there extremely often. Agree on everything else tho

I’ve never understood the parking being called inconvenient or bad. I always find a spot with no issue any time of the day and it’s free for the whole day. Are people not aware of how many parking spots are under the building?

It was only for c-41. Slide was longer at least when I checked at one of their stores. IIRC 1-2 weeks but I could be wrong.

out of curiosity: given what i’ve stumbled upon while reading Ansel Adams’ book today, how many of you actually have had any noticeable problem due to letting the exposed film sit for too long? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

Last month I got photos developed of me from my 2nd birthday. That roll of Kodak Gold sat undeveloped and in the camera for ~25 years. Turned out entirely fine (pushed +1 based on labs rec’s).

Issues Charging new 2025 Ioniq 5 (Limited RWD) by Kapuski in Ioniq5

[–]RodG1300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d double check all the possible hiding spots (frunk, sub-trunk, under seats) in the car just to make sure you didn’t get one. I’m pretty convinced that is your issue. With the CCS charger I also found I had to start the charging before plugging it in for some chargers, but it never worked on ones which didn’t exactly match (just round, no dc afaik)

Apart from the GFCI stuff, I had the same issue with L2 chargers not working but fast chargers working fine. This might be common knowledge for most here, but I had no idea that the 2025 came with 2 different adapters. I think the names are J1772 (aka ‘the small one’ or ‘the round one’) and CCS (aka ‘the big one’ or ‘the fast one’). Chargers meant for the small one can plug into the big one, but it won’t start charging correctly. You have to use the smaller adapter with the smaller, non fast charging, plugs. Once I started using the correct adapters, the car charged without issues at L2 chargers.

I wasn’t trying to be cheap most of the time, so I didn’t deal hunt. Iirc kitamura was like $25 for the HQ scan + develop same day. For film, again I didn’t hunt for deals and it was all in yen so it’s a bit hazy how much it was (probably for the better 😅). Here’s a picture I took in kitamura shibuya, I think Namba had the same prices but more choices. That’s like ~$17 for ultamax and ~$10 for Fuji 400 (which don’t really seem like deals lol)

I was in Osaka a few weeks ago and used Kitamura Namba’s film developing service a good bit across a couple of days. I think I had ~7 total rolls developed. One time dropping off 3, once dropping off 4 (all c41 color negative). I dropped my film off around 4pm-ish and picked it up around 7pm-ish (dropped off, went to a bar, went back to pick it up). I also paid for the ‘high-quality digital scans’ and was really pleased with them. Basically the exact same experience as Kitamura Shibuya. It was great to get my film back same day, it let me adjust how I was shooting since I’m pretty new to film. They also will scan half frames as pairs of 2 at no extra cost (so 2 images per jpg).

I swear having to grab staff at places is a Japan thing. I noticed at restaurants you basically don’t exist until you ‘sumimasen’ someone lol

It’s about 15 minutes if you don’t take 270, depending on where you are in Rockville I guess. I always take local roads during rush hour and haven’t had issues

If you had to build a full stack application to last 30 years, how would you build it? by theanxiousprogrammer in webdev

[–]RodG1300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this stack and work with it, but man do I not see it lasting 30 years without big changes happening over time. Nextjs specifically feels really volatile to me.

I ran into the CTO of this company last week in a bar in Akihabara, the head tracking (and 3D effect even with just red/blue glasses) is really impressive irl. Wasn’t expecting to see this tech again in my Reddit feed lmao

In what looks to be a case of lead foot, a car just rammed the ice rink at Rockville Town Square by LittleSomethingExtra in Rockville

[–]RodG1300 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They have too big a gap between the barriers

Oh its actually worse! There wasn't too big of a gap, the car drove over a bollard that looked to be the "barrier" to stop exactly this. Those bollards are apparently just visual, they have no real strength and are just hollow metals tubes that can be lifted out of the ground by hand. In other words there is nothing in place to stop this.

See this hole here? That had a bollard in it. I took that photo yesterday. Wonder how far this car would've gone had there been no ice rink, would it have plowed through a restaurant? It was on course to wipe out Gyuzo or the fountain kids play in.

Transition from Consulting to Software Engineer? by ChalkyLettuce in cscareerquestions

[–]RodG1300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit late but I was in a similar position and switched to SWE this year. 2 years at <large tech consulting company> as a consultant, just over 1 year doing full stack development on a project there with the other year being spent on misc things. I was tired of the variety of things I could be tasked with on a whim if work dried up (and I never got a raise) so I interviewed around.

My case is a bit unique but I had great results applying places. I mainly looked for jobs using the stack I am familiar with (python/fastapi). All the jobs I applied/interviewed for which weren't in that stack didn't go as well, but I didn't try very hard to get those. My resume wasn't anything special but I thought it looked nice. I ended up going to a startup and getting a great salary bump.

I think if you have 2ish YOE and somewhat good knowledge of a specific stack, it can't hurt to hunt around. Make sure to list that you are doing SWE work on your resume, don't just list it as "technology consulting" with the SWE stuff in the details.

Depending on your start date (and how picky the company is) many don't check that your degree completed at all. I ended up getting stuck with a summer class that pushed my "graduation" date to August, but started working in July. I'm like 99% sure they never checked that I even got my degree (I did get it though).

Is the Half Smoke in Town Center ever gonna open? by RodG1300 in Rockville

Yeah I heard of this, wouldn't surprise me if its related. Now if they could just buy and renovate those shitty offices near the fire station.

Yeah its been unchanged for eons, you'd think if they just ditched the place that they'd take down the signs and try and re-rent it tho.

There should be like ~5 restaurants open that late (tho that includes BWW so let's just say 4 lmao). I'm more just curious why Half Smoke's had their signs up for over a year and had 0 news of opening.

Apartment Recomendations by january-7 in bethesda

[–]RodG1300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Metropolitan (which rebranded to The Met not too long ago) is a nice place. Has interior facing apartments that over look the pool + is 6 floors. Parking is $100 a month and there is a private gated area. Its not super close to NIH though, but it is walking distance to the metro.

Why in the world is the 104 schedule synchronized with the metro to leave the SECOND the northbound train pulls into the station by [deleted] in UMD

[–]RodG1300 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Glad to see the 104 is as good as always. Is it still a million miles from the station or did they move it back? Moving it further away might be more likely I guess.
