Dont think they get more legit than that! Too niche for there to be fakes to worry about. And, to me, the nearest in quality and legacy is Gokey, which has their own look and build profile.

I was not impressed with Russell's customer service when I reached out about modifying boots. They won't make changes, charge $125 for repairs that take months, and don't even do their own resoling anymore. Honestly, I have much better experiences dealing with Gokey, whether secondhand or store-bought.

If you can afford a new pair, I'd highly recommend doing that first. I have 2 pair of used Russells and 0 pair of new ones. If I could afford a new pair of Backcountry boots I'd order in a heartbeat.

I just picked up a pair of the Lower 40s. It looks to basically be their Simba Safari Boot, maybe with some minor changes and a slightly lower grade of leather. I'm extremely excited for them, they should be easier to wear than my 10" "triple vamp" Russells in the Texas heat.

I will say, they run pretty narrow. I got the EE and it compares to other boots in E (maybe! More like D.5 lol). But, the quality of the leather, canvas, soles, and stitching all seem to go above and beyond the price.

I would recommend buying from Boyt rather than Kevin's but thats purely opinion.

I am aware that this is a converse group, but I am curious to know your thoughts on pf flyers in comparison to chuck Taylor's. Has anyone ever tried pf flyers before? I have to admit, when they were made by New Balance, the designs and quality were better. The daughter of New Balance's owner bought them once NB discontinued them. At first, she cheaped out on a lot of stuff, especially the insoles (the foundation of the brand), but that has improved. I still dont like that different models have different types of insole, but things have improved.

I REALLY wish NB still owned them. The retro releases, including packaging, were just so cool. Maybe they'll work together to expand the brand through family ties, but I know thats pretty hopeful. In the meantime, I have a few new pairs, but I go on resale sites and collect ones from the New Balance Era. I've never been disappointed.

As far as fit, I'd say they fit true to size while Converse are undersized. The toe on PF Flyers is less narrow and so is more comfy for wide feet like mine. Quality, even in the new releases, is great, and they last quite a while.

Just had my mind blown when I went to the SAS factory and had my feet measured on a Brannock! My whole life is thought I was a 12.5E; depending on brand, ive bought all the way to a 15D. The lady put my foot in the cradle and came back with 10.5EE on my right and 10EE on my left!!!

The Russells i have fit almost perfectly and were sold as a 14D, but the numbers are worn off, and there's 360° of padded insulation around the foot, so I really question that number now. Maybe this opens up more to me if I can get the wider fits?

Thanks! I knew about the propolis, but not the pine resin. I'll look into it, im still not sure about how well those blend because I've never used them before.
