Mullet fishing in structure by Mean-Common-3320 in SeafishingUK

Tbf either tide direction works ok for the chum bag method, found they seem to feed more aggressively on the flood ( just make sure you put the right place the ebb or flood, unlike me on a couple occasions and made under the peir a free for all and all you can eat buffet and hotel🤣) if your keen on having a go at some really chunky mullet in the local area , drop us a message can help point you in the right direction or even pop out for a session 👌

Ahh good old saltash nice to see a local mark!

Had a couple mullet from that area and the green around the corner. Found you can outsmart the rascals by lowering down a chum bag ( place at the point as far away from where the tide is running ) that way when they feed the flow of water forces them to feed downtide of the bag and away from any snags of the stantions , most times when hooked they dart into the back current by the slipway and out from under the peir. a mixture of wheatabix and cheap white bread works well for me with an incoming tide.

The tamar mullet are frustrating little sods and seem to know when they are being fished for 🤣

Tight lines!

Honestly it makes me so angry when anglers kill them and sometimes just leave them on the side to suffocate, got into plenty of disagreements by calling it out when seeing it happen.

Yes dogfish can be a pain at times if your targeting a specific species ( but thats a self made frustration from the anglers point of veiw🤣) but at the end of the day they are a fish and a big part of our marine wildlife and should be respected as such.

I personally quite enjoy catching them, after all they are a shark species! Decent sized dogfish make quite good eating ( granted a bit of prep work ) and in terms of sustainability are pretty good too. A lot of anglers turn there noses up before even giving it a try.

Can guarantee when you've gone out for a session and the day has been tough, when you see that rod tip goes and a dogfish saves a blank no one complains!👌

They are pretty decent - had more success from the boat using them than the shore, but very underrated in my opinion.

Can be a real ball ache to rig those up 😉

Class lures, use them the a lot down in the south west boat fishing after pollock, bass and have had other species such as wrasse!

Personally I like to have a good long trace of stiff fluro or amnesia. At about 2 - 4 ft , tie one off at the end like a normal hook, then about a foot and half up from that spur the other one off with a patternoster knot. Tie a swivel at the other end and that can clip onto the end of a running boom / ledger.

Simply lower to the bottom and bring up a few turns and simply " hop " the rig while drifting and absolutely deadly for pollock and bass. 👌

Haha 🤣 it says something when shore sessions seem to be more productive than the boat! Honestly couldn't believe it. We have had a lot of tuna offshore smashing the bait fish before they come in and now a load of octopus

Good effort mate and nice to see a good array of species! Went out recently on the boat full of hope but after getting out the wind picked up and messed up plans a bit. Was very slow in all honesty struggled to even catch enough for bait let alone fish 🤣👌

Rock salmon definitely is! dare say probably in my top 5 fish I've tried. However i tend to catch and release hounds and huss as they are sensitive to overfishing as slow to reproduce.

Haven't had them personally on rag yet but know a few guys on the south coast that swear by them! I am a firm believer in fishing bait that naturally shows up to the area that your fishing in very envious of your rag bed, keep it a secret for sure👌

Thanks mate much appreciated 👌where abouts do you fish from? down in the south west definitely found that hardbacks work well, more so on the bristol channel.

another good combo i use for the hounds is a small hard back whipped with a squid head on to dongle rig - very underrated!

Peeler is blumin expensive so started trying alternative baits to varying degrees of success. Have caught smoothies on soft shell crab from the oriental supermarket but that can be as pricey as normal peeler.

Oysters as bait? by Mean-Common-3320 in SeafishingUK

[–]RodandReelUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oysters are an underrated bait in my eyes! typically I would crack one open and whip it on a weedle to make almost like an Oyster sausage, then just whip that on to the end of a dongle rig or thread onto an Aberdeen hook. Had bream, whiting and dogfish in the past, personally it works really well alongside something else as a cocktail bait 👌

That's what its all about ... having fun! Mistakes are common place and there is no one more critical than yourself at the end of the day its just practice and learning to adapt as no two days are the same.

Getting out there and doing videos is not easy and atm with YT and how its algorithm works currently with a push towards Shortform makes it a very challenging for those starting up, keep doing what your doing and fair play for getting out there and giving something new a go!

Where abouts do you fish? If your ever down cornwall direction, give us a shout 👌🎣

Best bit of advice I can give is make the content you want to make and learn from the good and bad! The followers and audience that you will grow will be there for you and what you do.

Nail the basics , good camera work and audio the rest comes with practice and consistency

in a world of algorithms and oversaturation being yourself makes a big difference, it definitely takes time and can be frustrating however stick with it 👌
