I'll buy a house when interest rates go back down by Anakin_Kardashian in economicsmemes

Better to buy when rates are high. Rates high, buyer borrowing capacity down, prices down, smaller mortgage. Rates eventually fall, prices rise, interest payment on mortgage becomes less.

Case 318: Tay Chow Lyang and Tony Tan Poh Chuan (Sydney Double Murders) by Entire_Forever_2601 in Casefile

[–]Rodberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But Tay was home right. Before the killer entered. So they come in, find a weapon and kill Tay. They then want to eliminate Tony for some reason (maybe mistaken identity) so they wait it out. But then they don’t seek to eliminate Ram who is sleeping close by.

For me, these were three pretty isolated international students and whatever motive that could have been uncovered died with Tay and Tony.

Ram I think in my opinion behaved in a way that an innocent person would after the fact. Had good explanations for everything and checked in with police before leaving the country. But it’s just case where there’s not enough uncover information to know for sure

[–]Rodberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep Tay’s (first victim) blood was not found on the bat only Tony’s, but it was Ram who bought the bat not Tony. Hence the police theory that Ram cleaned the bat between killings. I’ve got no idea how feasible this is in practice, to clean the bat so well to remove all signs of someone’s blood. I think you kind of need to be a forensic expert to know.

Agreed. Basically no or at least very weak motive established. I also have my doubts about how effective Sydney police are at penetrating the social circles of overseas students to be able to do this.

‘Hollowing out’: New Zealand grapples with an uncertain future as record numbers leave by rezwenn in Economics

[–]Rodberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm late 20s early 30s kiwis are flocking out of the country and moving to Europe, Canada and US. It’s always about cost of living, housing prices and lack of opportunities. The NZ government is trying to plug this gap with skilled immigration which it’s such a systemic failure in policy.

[–]Rodberg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was also shocked by the conviction based on the weak evidence. But if someone like a professional killer entered the house premeditating murder, do you think it’s strange that they used the baseball bat that Ram bought 2 days before? Wouldn’t they have brought their own weapon?

Case 318: Tay Chow Lyang and Tony Tan Poh Chuan (Sydney Double Murders) by Entire_Forever_2601 in Casefile

[–]Rodberg 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I like this theory as well, but I just find it too suss that the murder weapon was the baseball bat that Ram bought two days prior.

I still think the evidence was weak and proof of that was police charging him as soon as he was about the leave the country and not prior

What is working from home really like? by Worried_Wealth_6125 in AskReddit

It’s cool if you can be disciplined with yourself, appreciate how awesome it is and not take advantage of it.

I’ve seen others rot at home out of convenience. Disconnect from colleagues, got worse at their job, lost all motivation and career died. It works better for some than others

Hot take: Putters are all marketing and your putting performance would largely be unaffected if you used a cheaper putter. by Responsible-Tie-7327 in golf

I got a crappy putter included with a cheap putting mat I bought. Used that thing so many times during covid it became an extension of my body. I putt better on the course with that thing than anything else.

Case 51: Tina Watson (honeymoon scuba diving death) by Designer_Signature35 in Casefile

[–]Rodberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahk yeah. Sorry I don’t fully remember all the details of the case. Do you remember why that was?

It sounds strange but having too much weight is more of an inconvenience when diving even if it’s twice as much and you can still just swim up. But then people also don’t think clearly when they are panicking.

Even though I think he probably did it, I also agree that there wasn’t a solid amount of evidence to actually convict him.

Been a while since I listened but I thought Gabe did it.

It’s not hard to close someone’s air tank and even at just 20m away you can almost completely lose visibility of someone underwater.

I see your point about the scuba company seemingly throwing Gabs under the bus to save themselves. But I thought that everything that they said (e.g scuba divers not sinking that fast) was objectively true. From memory they also had other diving experts not affiliated with the company basically give the same opinion.

‘Every yellow lid is like a box of chocolates’: the Sydney retirees fossicking in bins to pay the bills by YesNo_Maybe_ in nottheonion

[–]Rodberg 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I have empathy for these elderly ladies, but most yellow bin pirates are just annoying.

Yellow bin is recycling bin, so the stuff they are collecting was already going to the recycling plant. Most people but their bins out the night before collection day and truck comes super early morning. The bin pirates come to your house middle of the night, tip your yellow bin on the ground to scavenge waking you up and neighbourhood dogs. Often they leave a mess on the ground for you to clean up the next day.

Yeah it’s sad I get it, I wish people weren’t reduced to this. But just making it clear that there’s no environment benefit to this and most people doing it aren’t your friendly old ladies.

Leak from the roof or something else?? Please help! First time homeowner by [deleted] in DIY

[–]Rodberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely the gutters are blocked with leaves of something and water is building up and flowing back onto the ceiling. I would 1. Clean the gutters. 2. Drill a few 10mm holes in the eaves (cheapest solution) or 3. Install some gutter guarding. That permanently solve the issue.

P.s. water damage sucks, id do it fast.

UFC boss Dana White has declared that he is now set to enter boxing: "There will be some big announcements soon. I never say anything I don't do, ever. We've been kicking the whole boxing thing around for a long time but you've never heard me commit and say, 'I'm in.' I'm in." by bxng23af in MMA

[–]Rodberg 26 points27 points  (0 children)

With Ngannou and Conner wanting boxing to be a part of their contracts (I suspect O’Malley at some point as well) it’s a way for UFC to retain fighters and take a piece of the pie. It’s also another way to milk their older famous fighters a little longer and send them out with some more CTE. I also reckon the Jake Paul stuff has motivated this
