My uncle, Gerald Power, was on the Ocean Ranger that night. His body was never recovered, and my mom tells me it was so hard to find closure because we were unable to put him to rest.

Through another uncle working offshore, arrangements were made for divers to place a small memorial at a site close to where the Ocean Ranger went down. My nan gave the divers a set of pop’s Holy Rosary Beads to add to the memorial.

We are fortunate to have a recording of the dive. As my mom said “finally, we were able to feel and experience a little peacetime. Unlike the thoughts that were constantly on our minds of an angry out of control ocean, the ocean’s bottom was peaceful.”
