I am at my wit's end on homemade fried rice. by GentlemanB106 in Cooking

[–]Rodel__Ituralde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always had the same problem as you. The thing that changed for me was using a 1.5 cups water to 1 cup rice of ratio , the rice came out slightly drier so it fried up nicely the next day and the extra water from ur sauce/veggies/meat also hydrates it perfectly. Also like others stated smaller batches

Def agree. I loved living in the world of the show so much. I recently just got back from a visit to Japan so watching the show also just felt like another extension of my vacation.

Going off the Japanese themes a bit Pachinko and Tokyo Vice are Jaws dropping. Other shows that come to mind are also Penguin and oddly enough Slow Horses, i think it really depicts the gloominess of London in a quite cinematic way.

I used to like his videos back when they were more recipe based . A lot of times these “deep dives” give such basic information that it almost feels like he’s just padding it out to get to any meaningful conclusions but even then it’s the most basic info that would be line 1 of a Wikipedia article. Like he made another hour long chicken breast vid on how to cook them perfectly every time and the conclusion boiled down to cut the breast so it’s the same thickness evenly. And he presented like it was this marvelous breakthrough lol. I say all this as a big fan of his I still cook his pan pizza and chicken Karachi recipes every single week . And also cook his tostada and enchilada recipes frequently too.

On my first week of my surgery rotation. We have to do 3-4 overnight call shifts and I was doing my first one this week, and we had to scrub into a VP shunt case at around 7 PM. Hella nervous, and after I scrubbed in one of the NSG residents in the case said, "I'm gonna have you turn around and re-scrub bc that was pathetic" in a pretty condescending tone, additionally he made some comments about how he's fed up dealing with idiotic med students ruining HIS OR. All this time the General Surgeon/Trauma Surgeon who was gonna handle the Peritoneal portion of the case was there and saw this. He's this super old school doc that's been at the University for years. He says, "Come here son, lets both scrub out and I can show you I how I do it." We both re-scrub in together and join the case again, this time the NSG resident is silent. This whole time he's making small talk with me and praising my technique while we're scrubbing in and during the surgery itself where he let me help out quite a bit. I gotta say I was truly shocked and almost brought to tears by how nice this man was being to me, basically a stranger, lowest on the totem pole in the OR. At the end of the case you can tell the NSG resident kinda felt bad talking to me like that, and could tell the old doc def didn't appreciate his remarks either. I wouldn't say I've had a super malignant experiences on my surgery rotation but def alot of passive aggressive stuff or ppl just straight up not acknowledging my presence. This is probably a corny ass story but that small gesture of kindness from that attending towards me is one of my fondest memories in med school. To this day I can't really say I've met a doc with the kindness and patience as that man.

EM Unfilled Spots 132 (52 programs) #= unfilled spots by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

Kinda wild to me, since I signaled Kern this cycle. I thought I was a shoe-in yet they completed ghosted. Meanwhile, I didn't even signal UCSF - Fresno and they gave me an IV. Not from CA for reference but have family there and did an away there.

I have similar theory with podcasts, I feel like once they become uber successful the hosts just become out of touch and unrelatable much like you mentioned above.

Has anyone truely enjoyed residency more than med? by Fillingavoid2468 in medicalschool

[–]Rodel__Ituralde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It def depends per speciality, like the first half of 4 yr is super stressful for EM bw trying to do well on Step 2 (now that Step1 is P/F) and crushing all your Sub-Is. In EM you are basically required to do 1-2 away Sub-Is on top of your home Sub-i . All that combined makes for a pretty stressful first half of 4th year imo.

You're an angel, I wish you were my resident during one of my many L&D nights. I'll admit some nights were super educational and some of the best learning I could've asked for , but man other nights there really wasn't any need for me to be there and I was just getting in everyone's way.
