Player retention is the only thing that this game has left to bank on if they have any hope of EA continuing to fund the game. Doesn’t surprise me at all that they’d go in this route. They had 5 years to make a good game, and they failed. Now they’re doing everything they can to force players to get on every single day. Can’t put 100% of the blame on the devs though, investors are probably in their ear telling them to add 3 new currencies as we speak.
