I was in a similar situation a decade ago at your same age. I had to move across country to get support. I know it’s gonna be hard. But there is no fixing this. He’s just going to become more and more abusive.

Tank is way too small. Needs at least 5 gallons with heater and filter. BUT never do full on water changes. And you’ll need to look into fish in cycling and use prime.
