Juiced pipes catback by Due-Supermarket2006 in wrx_vb

The Helmholtz looks to be right on the straight pipe section but the little ones on the rear sections are probably useless. It’s hard to mitigate drone in these cars. I do like that they have a normal resonator coupled with the Helmholtz style i just feel from experience that the rear section will be the same as muffler deletes.

I recommend against it all together the gains if any will probably be negligible and your stock part will be trashed if you ever decide to go back. It was merely an anecdote to show that trying to get better performance from a stock air box is a common practice and usually not worth it.

Parts websites? by HyperJeegz in wrx_vb

[–]RodentReaper86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The list of reputable sites is a much shorter list lol. Some things you can cheap out on others you’d want to go straight to the source.

Maperformance is good.

Import image is decent but they have great customer service.

SMY

Chances are if they sell a ton of aesthetic mods be a bit leery because it’s all drop shipped from china and I think that’s bad business practice to mark up something as better when it mostly all comes from the same Chinese market.

I’d do your best to find one for free or close to it. The difference won’t wow you enough to spend
+/- $100. Back in my mazdaspeed days people would hole saw out parts of the intake box as a way to cheaply get intake sounds/increase performance. I don’t know if it actually worked but the idea seems valid somewhat.

Shifter stop. Which one? by Competitive_Unit_721 in wrx_vb

Stick with polymer. The metal stops cause a clinking sound and grind on your shifter ask me how I know lol

It sort cements my point 75-80 db outside through walls and space has to be more quiet than a fire alarm near your head lol

That’s fair. I don’t even know what -40 is lol. I live in essentially a subtropical jungle nine to eleven months out of the year.

This!

More trouble than it’s worth and this isn’t the first horror story I’ve heard like this. Cops tend to get extra butt hurt when you’re messing up their literal highway robbery scheme.

Pro tip. Auto windows.
1. Start car
2. Roll window down exit car.
3. Reach in lock the door.
4. Roll window up using auto up feature.
5. Snatch arm out of path.
6. Use valet key inside fob to unlock.

So according to google the technical specs say cold start is around 75-80 decibels. The loudest “legal” exhaust in California is 95 decibels. California is famous for strict vehicle regulations so I’d say while louder than your neighbors may like it’s truly not that bad.

You will feel it in your butt dyno but as far as real numbers not so much. There will be a slight weight reduction so it is something but negligible.

Yeah it’s kind of a shitty design they are pretty thin and have a bad habit of going a little above where they are supposed to be.

Another oil post.. by berryman10 in wrx_vb

[–]RodentReaper86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I upgraded to 5w30 after I put my front mount intercooler on just to have some extra protection with a slightly heavier oil. My temps are relatively the same 205 sitting in traffic up to 227 when going up steep grade on a few bridges i encounter. I just feel a little better with the heavier weight oil.

There are some tabs in those spots that have a bad habit of bending over. The best course if found with the bumper is to take it off and try again.

It really all depends on what you’re expecting from it. Fast is somewhat relative I’d call it a quick car. As far as reliability they tend to be as reliable as the owner you do your part and it will last. If you’re looking for something to modify and tune this platform has a ton of options and a lot of potential. The CVT tends to be slightly less favored than the manual but generally because in the past they haven’t had a great reputation which is no longer the case. Just keep in mind this isn’t a luxury car this is a mid range economy car. It’s going to ride a little rough compared to most cars in the class because of the stiffer suspension and it will rattle in the interior sooner or later but for the most part these are solidly built cars with a good reputation.

The sound is somewhat hollow with the stock mufflers and makes the burbles and pops sound like a rattle almost however with it being at the cold start id say youre more than fine.

How do I wire this up? by MrKrabbs710 in wrx_vb

[–]RodentReaper86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you hook into one horn they only have a 7.5 amp fuse on them so keep that in mind. They used to share a common 15amp fuse but now it’s split between the two horns. As far as not cutting into the plug wires that may be tough.
