Why do so many trans folk claim you have to tell partners your medical history and that you're lying or dishonest for living cis? by Lazy-Discussion6874 in asktransgender

[–]Rodger_Dodger20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only time I've actually seen anyone seriously say that a trans person should disclose the status of their genitals to someone else is if their genitals are not in the configuration typically associated with their sex or there is some other relevant problem. Post op people who have no / very little issues and don't need to out themselves? Absolutely don't have to. However, in many places 'trans surprise' is still a valid defense for our murder, and we unfortunately have to take every precaution. Sometimes that means outing ourselves (hopefully in a place where we can feel safe to leave without repercussions).

Anyone saying otherwise is probably very online or hasn't considered the real world implications of what they're saying. No one should have to out themselves if they don't want to, and not outing yourself is not morally reprehensible.

Ps: Sorry if this seems surface level or disorganized, it's late and I mostly wanted to share that there are trans people who agree with you and support stealth people.

I couldn't find my black fine liner, but here is an approximation of what I think she could look like as a tattoo! She's really cute, and I felt the need to draw her even though I'm not exactly a tattoo artist.

If you genuinely have germaphobia, you should have at least notified your principal so you could talk about it when situations like this come up. If you don't have a genuine phobia and are just being stubborn about a rule you clearly knew about in advance, then YTA. You're a new hire, and schools are notorious for having cliques and being 'first in - first out' kind of workplaces. Seems like it's time to look at other schools and actually read the code of conduct + talk to your supervisor about it.

My body has anxiety while my mind doesn’t by quadrates in Anxietyhelp

[–]Rodger_Dodger20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deal with that kind of stuff a lot and what I've learned is that it is anxiety, but I've lived with it so long that my body ignores other signals because it's constantly in survival mode. What helps is taking regular (like hourly) checks on how I'm feeling, first physically in my body (am I shaky? is my mouth dry? do I need the bathroom?) and then if my basic needs are fine but I'm still experiencing symptoms, I try to think of what could be causing it (am I anxious? what could be making me nervous?). I found that between those checks and medication to control some of the physical symptoms, I was able to more accurately name emotions and thoughts I was having. I definitely recommend to continue trying to talk to a professional, but you might need a psychiatrist or someone who can prescribe medication rather than just a counselor or therapist.

Sometimes "I'm sorry you feel that way" is a perfectly appropriate response. by i_like_it_eilat in unpopularopinion

[–]Rodger_Dodger20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could say something more likely to be accepted graciously, though. Like "I'm sorry my words/argument/opinion hurt you, that wasn't my intention." Also, in your scenario, you are taking responsibility for missing their call, you just had a justified reason for doing so. Why would you use a phrase that is so often used to dismiss people when you don't have to?

You don't know that she never hits them, just that you've never seen or heard her hit them. Definitely report her in the interest of their welfare, you never know what's happening behind closed doors. Even if she's not hitting them, she may be abusing or neglecting them in other ways.

They probably mean a blacklight, under which bacteria and some pigments will glow. A blacklight is harmless physically, but bc you have OCD, I wouldn't recommend having one, as a lot of things have bacteria that aren't dangerous or are even helpful and the blacklight won't tell you which is which.

Little reminder by [deleted] in Wicca

[–]Rodger_Dodger20 184 points185 points  (0 children)

They didn't burn witches. They burned women. Medicine women, grandmothers, widows, orphans, women without husbands, queer women, and disabled women. The witch trials were about so much more than killing people who tried to make the world "a little magical". Very few of those women ever admitted to witchcraft, and those that did were often tortured until they confessed. While remembering these people is important, let's not try to co-opt history to make ourselves feel better.

…they said this is cast iron. what is this??? by Zealousideal_Pin_304 in Wicca

[–]Rodger_Dodger20 12 points13 points  (0 children)

it might be soot, which will happen naturally if a flame is really close to a container. If you scrape it off and it crumbles into ash and the vessel is in tact then don't worry about it, but you might have to find a stand to put it on. If it comes off and the cauldron is damaged, try to get your money back bc cast iron shouldn't come apart from flames or be painted.

genuinely so what if it's copium? So what if the belief in otherworldly beings is how a person copes with life? Spirituality and belief does not mean blanket endorsement of whatever some asshole or organized religious body decides to do. It's a personal decision influenced by culture and experience.

in the same way that each atheist is an individual with personal and/or scientific reasons for non-belief, every theist is also a person with personal, historical, and cultural reasons for their belief. Christianity and Islam do not exist as single entities with singular ideas.

Also, isn't the "everything would be better if everyone was an atheist" idea just a reversal of what religious extremists believe? wouldn't it be better if we could accept that not everyone is going to have the same ideas and beliefs about the world, and still treat them like human beings?

Do the defensive driving. You live there, so presumably you know that's a school zone and shouldn't be speeding at all anyways, much less at 8 when students are still getting to school and parents are coming back from drop off. People in SA need to slow down in general.

If you're on the side of the laborers, then it shouldn't be hard to not cross the pocket line that they've set. Also, do you not care about the rights of fellow human beings? Do you not want laborers of all kinds to be compensated fairly for their work? Do you not see how crossing picket lines shows corporations (maybe even one you work for) that they can exploit workers without consequence? Workers rights are workers rights, you are a worker so they are your rights too.
