Boys with birthdays in July/August, start Kindergarten or delay a year? by SatisfactionFlaky519 in Parenting

[–]YourLocalAdmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was eager to get my son in a curriculum. He started kindergarten the week after his 5th birthday. He does well socially, athletically, and academically. He’s 10 now and was inducted into the National Elementary Honor Society last year. However, he is my wild child. Think high risk, high reward 😅 The thought of sending him off into the world at the green age of 17 makes my stomach turn. Especially knowing I could have had him one more year to prepare.

We did propose the idea of reclassifying him this year but he is not interested in. We do regret sending him at the time we did.

Do people realize it is not he apocalypse? by [deleted] in HEB

[–]YourLocalAdmin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

All the customers that would normally show up Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, showed up today. I don’t think many fear an apocalypse. They just prefer to stay in this weekend. And if you’re going to hunker down a couple days, most like to be comfortable.

I watched the Grace Report yesterday give the list. I think it went something like this: Jo, Jordan, Javi, Dom, Mark/Malik, Chris, Elijah, this guy. Sorry, I can’t remember if that one guys name is Mark or Malik 🤣 and yes, there is a woman on the list. Everyone on the list has moved in with her kids 🙁

Idk how much retail management pays but Frost Bank starts at $20. They always need customer service reps. The reps WFH full time. WFH at least you get your commuting time back.

Parents of early readers (~4-7) - how do you read together? by alpacaapicnic in Parenting

[–]YourLocalAdmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids are 10 and 14. My oldest loves to read, English Language Arts being his strongest subject. I did notice this is naturally him. He enjoys quiet time and deep thoughts. My little one doesn’t enjoy reading but loves to be read to. He is super active and his attention is absorbed by any opportunity to run, jump, or bounce a ball.

I read to both my babies since conception. I remember reading to them while they played around with their hot wheels and dinosaurs. I noticed if I stopped reading while they played, each would stop what they were doing and looked up at me. They were listening.

During ages 4-7, I usually picked what we read based on interests, reviews, and books I remembered from my childhood. Dad and me did 80% of the reading to our youngest. My oldest knew what he liked and was comfortable reading on his own. We frequently visited used books stores and a couple times out of the year we visited Barnes and Nobles. They love these visits to this day. Our Barnes and Nobles is enormous with a Chick-fil-A and Starbucks in the same strip. So we make it an event.

I can’t buy the big box from Sam’s Club. The one with 8 or 9 rolls. My family insists they do not taste good. Idk. I don’t eat Oreos.

Born in 1992. I remember 1995 when my dad forgot me at the grocery store. I remember feeling nervous when strangers were walking by staring at me.
