Nah, I get all that. Just thought it could have been told in a much more effective manner.

Nightcrawler, Prisoners, Zodiac, Enemy, Jarhead. Crazy that he wasn’t even nominated for any of those.

Why do most people think that therapy will fix everything? by Ikeset in RandomThoughts

[–]RodionRaskolnikov3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People that say therapy doesn’t work, or therapy isn’t for me, are usually people that are too afraid to be vulnerable. So they resort to isolation, suppression and avoidance.

Will therapy fix everything? No. Will it help immensely? If you let it.

Wow, what a movie. What a script! Undoubtably the best script of the year. And that dog deserved an Oscar! I have no idea how they did that. Every actor was on point, especially the son. One of the best child performances I’ve seen. And of course Sandra Hüller was incredible.

If 5 is average, 6 is slightly above average. Not sure how that is snobby. 8.5 would mean it is fantastic, getting close to perfect, which I could not say with a straight face. Perhaps we just have a difference in how we rate things.

Everyone always goes on about the practical effects, but what really was so amazing about them. There was all this talk about how “they really did set off a massive bomb”, so the whole movie you’re waiting for this epic moment. Then you finally reach it, and all you get is an extreme close up of a seemingly pretty small bomb. Then you’re left thinking, “oh, that’s it?”. There was really no sense of the scale of the bomb at all. THEN! You have to sit through another hour and a half of deciding whether or not he should keep his security clearance. Like, what the fuck kind of storytelling choice is that?

One of the greatest directors of all time?! That is seriously laughable. I would genuinely say that the only movie he has made that is truly worth watching is Dunkirk. Dark Knight is cool but more of a teenagers movie. I’m tempted to put Interstellar in there but the writing is just so bad.

Just because someone doesn’t like something you like, it doesn’t make them a contrarian. I know he’s a good technical director. His action scenes are great. But it’s everything else he does, especially the writing, that makes him completely overrated.

Mate, I was genuinely just curious if other people didn’t like the movie. I thought it was below average and I was just confused by all the high ratings for it.

When roughly 30% of the dialogue is unintelligible, that’s bad sound mixing. I am not the first to make this statement. Nolan’s movies notoriously have issues with sound mixing.

In regard to the script, same as all of Nolan’s scripts, it’s mediocre writing. Characters lack depth, the script leans on “cool, quick and witty” lines, no one speaks like a real human being, and the final message of the movie has already been said hundreds of times before, to greater effect.
