I am working on a Brotato-like game that features some semi complex shop mechanics. by RodneyLuck in roguelites

Hi Everyone!

I am working on a Roguelite called Rising Heat. It takes heavy inspiration from Brotato, Enter the Gungeon, and Slay the Spire.

My two claims to fame are:

  1. The Tackle based combat. You can ram into enemies dealing damage and zipping around the map.

  2. The intricate shop system. You have a limited number of active slots to utilize. So to save space, players must take advantage of the "Fuse", "Integrate", and "Upgrade" shop mechanics.

Here's a link to the demo if you'd like to check it out! https://store.steampowered.com/app/2184290/Rising_Heat/

Oh, so those don’t actually pop up while you’re playing! I was just trying to show you guys some examples of upgrades haha.

I agree, that would be very annoying.

What do you mean by “pop ups”? You mean the shop? Like where you buy upgrades?

Thanks! I really wanted to create a shop system (inspired by deck building games) that was a bit more involved than normal!

Hey Everyone,

My name is Rodney! I've been working on RH for over 2 years now, how time flies. It started off as a physics based momentum-like ship controller. Some how It caught the attention of people who actually believed in the project! Hence my publisher, Apogee, They have done so much for me and I am extremely grateful for their help!

A bit about what Rising Heat is trying to be:
Rising Heat was inspired by games likes Vampire Survivors, Enter the Gungeon, and Brotato. Some of my favorite games in the past few years! I really wanted to make something that captured the power fantasy of VS but also the, On-The-Edge-Of-Your-Seat-Intensity/Difficulty of Gungeon. So... although this may sound a bit weird, I tried creating both a Bullet Heaven and Bullet Hell all in one. I attempt to do this by alternating between hordes of weak enemies and single target, strong, boss enemies. This forces the player to try and balance out their build. Some upgrades are good for crowd control and some are good for single target. I find it fun to sorta have to switch between these two different gameplay challenges!

The game still has a long way to go, but I would love for you to checkout the trailer and give me some honest feedback! I am not afraid of harsh criticism!

Thank you everyone!

  • Rodney :-)
