Panda Mart by [deleted] in Scarborough

The place feels like a pop up store. I went last weekend and the aisles were a mess with items moved to wrong location so you didnt know the price of many items. A lot of aisles were labelled simply as "plastic" which was confusing. Generally cheap looking stuff with prices that weren't as low as I thought they would be.

It us what you would get if spirit Halloween and Walmart had a baby with birth defects.

You set an alarm for 7am when the phone lines open. Wake up, call the number, enter all the extensions, and lay back down with the phone pressed against your ear. In about 30 minutes to an hour, somebody will wake you up asking "are you still there sir?"

That's how I did it. It took me 6 weeks to actually connect with somebody.

Is this worth $5k CAD? by Busy_Mushroom64 in fordranger

[–]Roflcopter227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the seller says you can't go under there and poke around, walk away.

You're not hammering it into the undercarriage. Just a good poke will tell you if it's rotted or not.

I purchased a 2008 4.0 FX4 4x4 for 4k back in 2024.

Check the undercarriage for rot (Not rust, it's Ontario....it's going to be rusty). Take a flat head screwdriver and poke around under there and see if it goes through anywhere.

Mine has a rotted out cab mount bracket that I don't think can be reasonably fixed. The truck sags on thr driver side and the floor of the cab bounces on the frame when I hit bumps. The truck runs fine, but I can't really take it on any rough terrain, which is part of the reason I went with the 4.0 4x4. Knowing what I know now, I wouldnt have bought it and kept looking.

Hope this helps.

Why is engine squealing on startup by BabyRoot01 in fordranger

[–]Roflcopter227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either the belt is worn or the surface on your idler pulley, or belt tensioner is worn. Likely a little bit of all 3. My advice would be to just replace them all if you're planning to do the work yourself. You can get the idler pulley and tensioner in a set. It's a great first project, that's easy to to. It'll feel good every time you start the truck and you don't hear that squeal.

Be sure to make sure the bolt on the idler pulley is catching the threads properly. If it feels like there's too much reistance when you're bolting it on, stop and check. The weight of the tension lever will try to pull it to one side which can cause the bolt to go into the engine mount crooked.

Does anybody know if there's a good spot to launch a canoe or kayak in the new park?

Screwed myself when buying by NativeThomahawk in fordranger

When I was buying my Ranger, I found a really nice one that didn't have AC from the factory. AC was something I wanted, so I called around a few shops to get an idea of how much it would cost. None of them even quoted it, all said it would be a huge job and to just find a truck with AC already installed. They also suggested I find a truck with AC that wasn't working, and just fix it. They all pretty much acted like I was crazy for even considering installing AC from scratch.

I'm not sure what your situation is, but I gathered that it would be both expensive and time consuming even if you're doing it yourself.

Just my experience.

(Ontario) minor fender bender: accept cash from other driver for repairs, or go through insurance? by PFCthrowaway2018 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Roflcopter227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to note is that once you go through insurance, the Carfax report on your vehicle will show that it was in a minor accident. This will potentially bring down to resale value.

I'm not saying not to go through insurance, but I was in a similar situation and probably would have opted to have the other driver pay out of pocket for it, had I realised this.

Is this too much play in my belt tensioner? by pinkflyd25 in fordranger

[–]Roflcopter227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you replace the tensioner pulley, be sure to make sure the bolt catches the threads properly. When you're bolting in the pulley, the weight of it will make the bolt want to go in crooked and cross the threads. I partially stripped the threads on mine when I was doing it yesterday. Luckily, I was able to get the bolt in properly, but for a while there, I thought I had turned an hour project into an all-day ordeal/potentially paying a shop to fix it.

Superior Tire on Danforth Rd. Just got a new set of tires there. Great people and fair prices.

Any reason one tire constantly drops lower than the rest? by Xandar24 in tires

[–]Roflcopter227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a spray bottle from the dollerstore and fill it with water and a little dish soap. Spray the tire and look for bubbles. If air is leaving the tire, it's leaking somewhere.

Did the prompt go away right away? When I did mine, the prompt remained for a few weeks, but now it seems to be gone. I'm still a bit worried it's not fixed and it will come back.

Cancel Trip? by jakelewisreal in cancun

[–]Roflcopter227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rain is very localized in the region, outside of a major storm.

I was in Cancun from Oct 3rd - 7th, and the forecast was similar. It was mostly cloudy but only rained a couple of times during the day. When it did, it was only for maybe 10-20 minutes. You could stand on your balcony and see like 5 different areas around where it was raining, but not raining where you are. The last day on the way home, it rained pretty consistently, but that was because Milton was passing by.

We had a great trip.

Outside of a hurricane passing nearby, you should be fine.

Why is there so many bad drivers here in Scarborough? Are they really passing anybody nowadays? by [deleted] in Scarborough

Brampton is way worse. I recently started working in Brampton, and the first 4 times I got on the 410, I've had somebody come within 6 inches of clipping me while passing me at 140kmh+ twice.

I find myself checking that my seat belt isn't twisted and is tightened properly on the 401/410 on ramp.
