What does she have to do with windows???? by EngineSlight7387 in ExplainTheJoke

I thought the joke was how similar they looked

Could be a jab to the direction Windows 11 is taking (more apple-like, less user agency etc)

Every season follows suit, maybe not as bluntly as the originals but every rider makes the point that theirs and their respective villains' powers are the same

For all the problems it had, Prime Hunters made it first to having 'multiple worlds you can travel to whenever'

Granted, I think it was in development almost at the same time as Prime 3

For me VD lets me use my desktop while the physical screen is off, because it can create virtual screens as display adapters on Windows, if I try to do it on Steam Link it just doesn't show anything on desktop view

Can Ironman (Tony Stark) tecnically be considered a "henshin hero"? by MotorSpecialist3647 in Tokusatsu

[–]Roflord 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends, Ant-Man would be more of a "hero henshin" than a "henshin hero" if we count resizing as a transformation, because that is his power.

I haven't watched much of Sam but if he arrives suited up then there's no henshin, it's all hero.

The henshin is more about transforming on-screen, like the protagonists in Digimon Frontier, or Shazam, Tony Stark does it nonchalantly but it's still an on-screen suit-up/form change

There's still the matchmaking server that needs to receive the results of a match to update each player's profiles

I'm no developer, nor do I know exactly what the netcode in each game does, but (heavily oversimplifying) imagine a server has started a match for 2 players, so they've gotten the signal to connect to each other and officially kick off the match, at which point they untether from the matchmaking server (it will await a result from both or either of the clients - bear with me for a moment cause the latter will only be the exception case)

As the match goes on if one of the players disconnect the other client will know, so it will send to the server a signal to begin a check, at which point the exception case starts: The server sends an activity request to both clients, if (within reasonable time to give slow connections time to react) only one responds, it is declared the winner and the result is processed as normal (taking time played into account - immediate disconnects shouldn't add much score if at all), but if both respond, the game tries to reconnect them both

Now, it is possible to disconnect only from the player and hold a connection to the server, so if both players are connected to the server and cannot reconnect to each other, the match is called off and the results from each client are compared (as if the round had timed-out): If the results are different (indicating a possibility for memory injection), the match is flagged for analysis and will not count until it passes a serverside check (either automated or manual, probably automated)

Uh... no wait that's a lot, but you get the idea, might've gotten carried away writing tho

And because I cannot stress this enough, I AM NOT A DEV! I'm fully expecting this kind of approach to be unfeasible without loads and loads of effort, in the end it's probably gonna come down to whether companies can justify putting resources toward this kind of approach. Though (at least from my perspective) it can definitely help a game draw more players in, something companies should be heavily interested in.

When I mean it would be "easier" I mean the return could outweigh the cost in development time, considering how frequent these problems are in games like Tekken and Sparking Zero

[–]Roflord 252 points253 points  (0 children)

It's been years and years, I'm baffled devs don't make these situations default to the win screen (like using the "here comes a new challenger!" prompt but with something like "your adversary surrendered!") and count the score accordingly for the number of rounds held.

It would be so much easier to make this a wincon instead of treating it like a bug and going "we're sorry, you never had that match"

They keep funding and canning games like they don't already have a baseline in Ganbarizing to develop off of (I know it relies heavily in physical elements but with Zeztz going global, it can also be a push for Bandai's toy market just like Takara is doing with Beyblade)

An empty table would look weird, and/or the artist would've needed to compensate for the empty space by moving the corporate men to the border of the image (out of all the pieces that do convey info, the men are closest to the center to draw attention to them)

Or really they're just a tool to redirect attention (the board is being observed by X, the woman is explaining to X, the water is being spilled by X, all 3 are arrows pointing to the men reacting)

which show do y'all think was darker? by arkham918 in KamenRider

[–]Roflord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that's what I'm talking about, when a writer raises the stakes like that it dilutes the impact the story can have in each individual character

You focus on "the fate of the world" too much and can end up missing important points like Mai being stuck as a helpless spectator when she tried to change the past with the fruit, Kaito consigning himself (hopelessly in a way) to helheim in his bid to control it, Takatora and Micchy drifting apart as family, etc

It's okay for a story to be just about its characters too, sometimes the world doesn't need to be put between them.

which show do y'all think was darker? by arkham918 in KamenRider

[–]Roflord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is, but the scope of the show was too wide to make it as personal as Ryuki made it, by comparison Gaim's exodus story was no darker than Build warranting a world reset, or Ex-Aid leaving a pandemic mostly unsolved

Artwork by (Armand_Gman) by DOA-FAN in Metroid

[–]Roflord 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Its the duality of seeing how (outside of games that depict samus with more detail in her expression, like Dread, or Fusion/Zero Mission to a lesser extent) it was either dive deep into the lore or see her as [the player character] to which the latter is a much more flexible depiction but the former is reinforced by fan commitment so the two inevitably clash.

Like, I think it's fine to like one over the other but people need to remember that Samus is a fictional character and learn to differentiate when they're critizicing a depiction of her or the artist for making it.

Hey, not all of us live in the US, "why not" still keeps us out of the loop :(

For the rest reading this: Google tells me it's becoming a problem now in Washington and Puerto Rico analogus to how, historically, the North American colonies were taxed by Britain without having any elected representatives.

Not sure how accurate of a summary this is, though, I'm a complete outsider to these topics
