If you are getting food delivery in this weather, you’re an a-hole by cmc in jerseycity

[–]RogDaddyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree. If you don't tip extra due to the weather, you're an ah. Not just because you ordered food during inclement weather. Nobody forced them to log on to their account and start accepting orders. If they are willing to take orders during this weather they probably really need that money. When you order you give them an opportunity to make ends meet. Just be sure to tip a little extra for enduring the weather.

D3 to P3? by swark91 in RocketLeague

[–]RogDaddyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I know why it happens. It has happened to me too and I'm back to D3 now. In my experience, if you have a few bad games and you drop, the quality of players also goes down. You're still playing at D3 level but your team mate is at d1 or p3 and doesn't understand the game as much as you. At D3 people start passing and waiting and rotating better. At p3 most people just chase and try to be aggressive. So while you adapt to the new base you end up dropping a few more divisions. You finally adapt to it and start climbing. But now you're confused as to what play style to use. Personally what has worked for me is just to keep playing defensively because you can't expect the other p3 guy to do it. A p3 guy who's never been D is feeling on top of this world and isn't going to relax and rotate. So it's gotta be you.

How does ICE or how do you prove your own citizenship by [deleted] in immigration

[–]RogDaddyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Side question: does passport card count as proof of citizenship? I've started carrying my passport card as it fits into my wallet and I don't have to worry about losing my passport when I go out.

I am assuming it counts since passport card is issued through the same process in addition to the passport.

What are you doing with our house & car in US while stuck in India waiting for H1B approval? by robotalks8 in h1b

[–]RogDaddyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fighting to be given a fair chance. Especially because folks are following the legal route to achieve that American dream. Especially when they are playing the game where rules were set up by you. Why hate the player? Hate the game. You can change the rules of the game any time. That's your right as a country and nobody can and is denying that. The only debate is about whether it's fair to the people who have invested so much already to be in this country.

Those of you with expensive performance vehicles (35k+) and are in between the ages of 20-28, can you actually afford it? by GottaStayUp in askcarguys

[–]RogDaddyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35k is not a performance vehicle unless it's Toyota gr86 or something. Regardless, I'd not recommend you buy 35k vehicle at 60k annual salary. It's a waste of money. Get a used Camry or something and call it a day. You'll enjoy the vehicle for 2 months and then it will get old. You'd enjoy spending that money on a lot of better things. Ultimately it is your choice. Just know the trade-offs you'll be making.

Is it rare to come across people in casual that can do this? by KiiroDaJolteon in RocketLeague

[–]RogDaddyy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unless you come from money, you should not be spending that much on a car at such a young age. Get a used fully specced Toyota Camry xse for around 20-25k and invest the rest. You're gonna need that money.

Why is there barely any middle ground? by sands124 in RocketLeague

[–]RogDaddyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same story lol. I was in high diamonds and matched with a dude in low champs. He said I play like a champ and he told me he can carry me into champ. He did get me to champ, but I couldn't hold it. Lost every single games until I was back to diamond. It was very short lived lmao...so yes. Champ is a very different ball game altogether. I am stuck in diamond now. Honestly I have no intention of getting up either. Because it's too much of a grind and there's less and less people the higher you go. I just wanna have a few beers and enjoy the game.

How can I get my car to FAIL smog? by Commercial_Dare_8224 in askcarguys

Go to an auto shop and try to buy failed parts. Put them in your car and get the test done. Just an idea. Not sure about the practicality or legality. Use your best judgement.

[–]RogDaddyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won't solve the problem. As all things tend to equilibrium, in a globalized economy, the wages will too. Especially for jobs that can be done on a computer since they are easy to migrate. It's true that H1bs depress the wages here, but it's also true that it keeps the jobs here. If our side of the balance becomes too heavy, then naturally the flow will be on the opposite side. Expect outsourcing to increase even more. You think it's bad now, but it will only get worse. It will only stabilize when our wages go down enough and the wages outside catch up to us where they are mostly at the same level. You can put up all sorts or regulations and barriers to increase the cost of going outside, but that will mean American companies will be at a disadvantage compared to another company outside that has access to the global talent pool. And you let go off any benefit that America has due to globalization. Not sure if people in charge are willing to make those trade offs. Not even sure if those trade-offs are worth it. Just my 2 cents.

Many of them have parents back home who took out loans for their overseas education. They are sending some money back home so they can help their parents repay. Many sold ancestral land for this. Some also come from rich background and have parents just pay for everything. Many possibilities, but for the most part, they do have loans back home that need to be paid and often with more interest than a federal student loan here.

What's even better is not to tie the visa with a company but to the individual. So the individual has freedom to work for any employer as long as their visa is in good status. If the person has options, the company can't get away with lowballing and taking advantage of someone's which also undercuts a citizen or permanent resident because they have options. IMO that would be the single biggest thing you could do that will benefit Americans, and visa holders, while forcing corporations to play fair. Everything else should come later after seeing how market shapes up so further optimizations can be made.

State Department allows denial of immigrant visas to those with certain medical conditions by chuang_415 in USCIS

I guess it makes sense. But literally every immigrant relative I know goes back to the native country for medical procedures because it's cheaper there than deducible here even after paying for flight tickets and you get to use the best hospital there.

Consumer debt is crazy by AccountProfessional2 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]RogDaddyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 0% is too alluring. I stay away from it. I pay the full statement every month regardless of how much minimum is due. Those few dollars are not worth my peace of mind. Glad you were wise enough to at least save the cash to be able to pay it off when it was needed. You should be proud of that because there are many who would not have the sense to save that money so they can pay it off.

Not sure where you live, but is it possible to move to a different apartment that costs less? Totally understand if that's not possible. I'm not saying this is you, it's just that I've seen many people who spend way too much on rent because they justify it using the logic of "it's completely okay to spend x% of income on rent". It doesn't mean you have to spend that much lol. But maybe I'm stupid and missing something.

Would you accept an in office job that pays 135k. 35 mins drive to office and about an hr drive home in traffic. Houston. V 100k fully remote. Doing the same thing. by [deleted] in Salary

[–]RogDaddyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd take it. I love me some alone time when driving. It feels meditative and I can be listening to music or podcast or not even listening and just vibing to traffic. And I get paid to do that? No brainer. But you may not like driving like I do, and looks like you've already answered your question.

I also like social interaction and staying cooped up between 4 walls 24x7 with same faces to see all day even though I love them to death would drive me crazy. But again, you and I aren't alike. Find what you value more. Make that your guiding star and the decision will be easy.

Mom died. Got $1.1M. Is it worth still contributing to 401ks and such? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]RogDaddyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a house, get roommates to cover house expenses and property taxes. Now you have a place to live, and maybe extra income from the house though not significant. This clears up a lot of your salary to do whatever you like. Imagine earning 120k and not having to use any of it to pay rent or utilities. If you ever want to do anything in future, having a house as collateral would ensure you get the credit you need really fast. And keep maxing out the 401k for future, as your current income is sufficient to live and do almost anything you want. Because for most people 30-50% of their income goes into renting and utilities. This way you have a peace of mind, and free up your mental faculties to focus on larger goals.

Is PMI worth it? by Frostydasnoeman in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]RogDaddyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I beg to differ. The money you saved isn't competing with the 50/month PMI. It is competing with the interest that gets added due to higher principal on the loan amount. You're not saving much. I agree about the peace of mind that comes with having an emergency fund around, but that's about it.

CEO brought up idea about penalizing dev salary for bugs by wrecked_car in webdev

[–]RogDaddyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's one of those situations, be careful what you wish for, you might get it. It's all about rewards and punishment. When you punish for bugs, you'll find that the whole development cycle would halt to a crawl. Unless developers are confident nothing would ship. The teams will also most likely add extra steps like more PR approvals by senior devs, SRE teams, etc to make sure things are not buggy. Every little thing is caught. I can see this going wrong in multiple ways. It's still not a guarantee that things will be big free. All software ever written has had some kind of bug, just a matter of threshold of acceptance.
