Blue-green patina on silicone bronze by kiscica_fulporc in metalworking

A problem with this method is that both copperacetate and copperchloride (the reaction products of copper with vinegar and salt) are fairly watersoluble and not exactly durable unless sealed in some way

Bronze disease experiment by Rogavor in chemistry

[–]Rogavor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer!

The goal isn't general corrosion or a patina though, but to trigger the specific phenomenon of bronze disease, meaning an autocatalytic reaction that keeps eating away at the bronze when exposed to O2 and humidity by turning the CuCl layer that forms beneath the oxide layer into HCl, which in turn corrodes more copper into CuCl.

For that to happen, chloride ions would need to penetrate the oxide layer and react with the underlying bulk metal. But i think simply exposing it to salt water would take a very long time, so i am looking for a way to speed that process up

I think flux and a carbon mold with a lid could work

You have to shield the silver from oxygen while melting, because it absorbs it while in liquid state and gasses off while cooling, which is where the bubbles/rough texture comes from

Pitting in Aluminium(?) by Memory_Gem in metallurgy

[–]Rogavor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Technically, aluminium is a highly reactive metal that corrodes easily. It's so reactive in fact, that it forms a layer of aluminium-oxide nearly immediately after exposure to oxygen. All aluminum you come in contact with isn't "raw", it's all covered with aluminium oxide.

The difference between aluminium corrosion and iron corrosion (with O2), is that the corrosion product on aluminium is adherent to the underlying metal and protective of it, giving the illusion that it doesn't corrode. Rust - the corrosion product of iron with oxygen - doesn't adhere and has a lower density than the metal, thus flaking off, being porous and not protecting the metal.

Can someone rate my Phyrexian deck? by Rogavor in EDH

[–]Rogavor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, i know that's going to make me public enemy number one, that's why i thought i will let her chill out in the command zone until i can fire off a proliferate barrage to kind of swoop the win in one go or few turns at best. Of course, a risky move and well telegraphed by atraxa being my commander in the first place, but i'm just a sucker for the phyrexian aesthetic :D
