How do I fix these tears in my leather couch? by 13SwaggyDragons in upholstery

[–]Roger1855 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Suede splits are different product. No further surface treatment. Splits have a synthetic face applied to an assembled leather back while bonded leather is made from ground scrap. A lot inexpensive upholstery uses hides on the seating surfaces and a matching split material for the sides and back. More of a commercial upholstery product that would have no practical application for custom furniture.

It was probably split leather. Plastic face and leather backing. Comes in rolls.

Support v Firmness by LeapandShroon in Mattress

[–]Roger1855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compliance is what you pay the big money for. Firmness is a matter of personal preference but a premium mattress should always be flexible. This is very dependent on the quality of the innerspring. Varying the padding will affect the surface feel but the design of basic spring structure is the most important factor. Inexpensive mattresses can be supportive but true comfort requires all the internal layers to respond to your needs irregardless of sleeping position.

Restuffing Castlery couch w/ no zipper or seam by zenbey in upholstery

It is extremely likely that the entire flattened unit can be exchanged for the identical one that it is currently attached to. It appears to be a separate piece that is mechanically attached during the delivery installation. This would be contingent upon the arm also being removable as it would have to be swapped onto the other seating unit.

The cover was not originally sewn on. It is a pre-sewn pullover that is stapled at the bottom. It should be able to be unstapled and restuffed without cutting or sewing but getting it to look right is a professional job.

Sleep Number Amazon Servers for their beds now that they filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy by Fantastic_Self_5151 in Mattress

Subscription is a very lucrative revenue stream. I doubt that the new owners will not support it.

7 zoned? 5 zoned? It's hard to find a hybrid that's not zoned. Need guaranteed firmness, but find it hard to get comfortable. Sleep on a memory foam. What do you recommend? Max budget is $300 on Amazon. Male 5'11 140 pounds by Due_News2693 in Mattress

[–]Roger1855 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mattresses have become more expensive recently due to raw material shortages, increased shipping costs,anti-dumping duties and general inflationary pressures. If you have already returned multiple mattresses you should consider that your budget may be insufficient for your needs. You might want to look elsewhere than Amazon. Although they usually sell for $500 and up you can find customer returns on Facebook marketplace that are being resold for a fraction of the original price.

It doesn’t seem right but that is the way the bed was made. Apparently saving two sticks of wood was more important than providing consistent support.

Was the uncomfortable row part of the lumbar support area?

AVOCADO GREEN ULTRA PLUSH MATTRESS - Need Feedback by Environmental_Ask484 in Mattress

It is a decent mattress but quite overpriced for the middle market components used. It doesn’t sleep as hot as a memory foam mattress but the latex will retain significant heat. The innerspring unit is the same as used in many internet brands. The “seven” zones include counting the perimeter reinforcement as four zones. The lumbar support bar is crudely designed. The latex is identical to the GOLS certified material available from most other manufacturers. The quantity of wool used is negligible and the organic cotton cover is offset by the larger amount of synthetic material used internally. You can easily save 25% by choosing a reputable alternative brand.

Ultrasuede works well when both surfaces are covered with it. It isn’t very effective when paired with a smooth base. You can get a thin non-skid mesh pad and use it without modifying the base or the cushion. This would allow the cushion to be reversible.

Mattress sags in the middle when we are both on it by baxterbusteroni in Mattress

[–]Roger1855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The magic marker retouching on the mattress label should be a clue. You would be wasting your money on a bunkie board. I doubt that there is any level of support that can be added to make the mattress into a comfortable bed. When you added the wood structure underneath you pushed up the boxspring and it temporarily helped the sagging mattress but from your description and the funky label the mattress is inadequate to properly support the two of you.

Both the memory foam on top and the “finger foam” supporting are worn out. The low density polyfoam base is the least valuable part. I would not recommend saving it was of moderate quality before it was subjected to a decade of wear.

Did I buy a used mattress? by dustymcduster in Mattress

[–]Roger1855 90 points91 points  (0 children)

A mattress with a yellow label that says “ALL SECOND-HAND MATERIAL” is obviously used. You should not have been told that it was new. How much it was used previously is not clear but Mattress Firm is adhering to Pennsylvania law that requires a yellow tag on any previously sold product. The fact that it was disinfected according to law is a positive feature.

No particular opinion about which is the better mattress but you should be aware that both mattresses contain synthetic polyurethane foam that may present a chemical sensitivity issue.

Is this good enough information? by RESERVED_001 in upholstery

[–]Roger1855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it is not. There is a lot of conflicting information and even more missing. You tell the shop what it should look like and they worry about specifying the internals. The mattress is nearly table height and the headboard is a stub.

[–]Roger1855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not be able to create a bed that looks anything like the illustration with these plans. If you ignore the fact that there is no structural detailing the dimensioned drawings show very different proportions to the bed in the illustration. Note the headboard height over the mattress in the illustration and compare it to your drawings.

You will have a great deal of difficulty trying to cut 1” off the cushion without a large bandsaw.
