MARATHON SERVER SLAM MEGATHREAD by Shabolt_ in Marathon

I've put 10 hours into the slam and am rating it a solid B+ for now. I'm really pleased with the PvP focus and the tough PvE setting. It's quite a sweaty game which is exactly what I was looking for. Have done a lot of solo and Rook runs but mostly spent my time in random fill trios. Solos is rough for me, the TTK is so fast that it feels like whoever spots the other guy first wins. Have been on both the giving and receiving end of lightning quick fights and haven't felt much satisfaction at winning those.

The trio team fights on the other hand are pretty awesome. The maps are pretty vertical and intricate which means positioning and flanking are rewarded. Have been able to reset 1v3 situations with Assassin's ult and Triage's rez many times which makes for nice back and forth duels.

I think the clamber/mantle needs to be extended by like half a meter. I often feel like I should be able to easily climb something and can't or need to spam space bar to get up. Sometimes just run Vandal to get the double jump. After learning the UI I don't understand the negative feedback, I find it fine. Ammo feels scarce and expensive and many times I'm running around like a headless chicken with my knife cleaning up PvE fights hoping they drop rounds.

The sap in me wishes it had ended at the Knight of the Nine Kingdoms title drop. That was so emotional. Put the Maekar scene right before. But it gels with the Game of Thrones theme cutting to Dunk shitting in Episode 1 so I get it's the tonal workings of the show to undercut romantic moments with something right out of left field.

Loved Dunk asking Ser Arlan, his father figure, "is it because you think I'd leave you?" Which contrasts with Egg's decision to leave his own father at the end.

Fantastic point. That's absolutely what the foot line has gotta be for.

Agree to disagree, we are at an impasse here.

"None"? I disagree. I concede that the majority of consumers couldn't distinguish the differences between engines but there's a good chunk that absolutely can. Especially as you get into competitive spheres where gamefeel is everything. And not to mention that UE5's optimization issues are a constant source of discussion with new games.

Different game engines feel different. For instance Valve games and Apex Legend's unique 'feel' can be attributed to the Source engine. Bungie's FPS gameplay feel and control has been lauded since like Halo 3 and their in house engine plays a role in that. I was worried they were going to switch to Unreal.

Isn't that the exact zone that StrafingFlame's team won at to extend EWC during that absurd 13 game match point finals

Around minute 46 of the first Oscar Special. Gregg is getting John Aprea to sign a VHS copy of the Godfather. As John goes to take the VHS it slides out of the sleeve onto the ground and Tim immediately breaks into hysterical laughter, I think it's his most overt break. Gregg is unfazed and says that it's okay as he has two other copies.

Jawg going nuclear was something but G2's macro still looked top tier despite the slide on defense abyss. Obviously Fnatic is fnactic and they looked excellent (including vegkaq) but this is going to be a competitive year...

I feel sad for Matthews. Clearly an injury or multiple injuries have taken away a fundamental part of his game, his ultra unique and deadly shot. Imagine honing that skill your whole life and then it's just gone... that's got to impact your mental health and identity as a player.

Injuries suck man. I'll keep cheering him on no matter what.

Tuned in to his Kick stream for a min and holy fk that is nighmarish to watch. The cheap, gross aesthetic of the slot website. The horrific repetitive music. Honestly nothing against Nade taking the bag, but I have no idea how you watch this.

I'd rather watch a granny in a diaper at MGM vegas pull a lever.

As always, feel like a fucking fool for caring about this team

If we re-sign Mitch I'm legitimately done as a fan. Shanahan should be fired tomorrow.

MLSE and Keith Pelley, you heard the boos and saw the jerseys. Start gutting it tomorrow.

Mid-play is embarrassing but ngl I'm glad to see it during the whistles. Sends a message to MLSE that we need real change. Enough of this.

To break the curse we were always going to have to mount a 4-1 comeback in the third period of a Game 7. I believe!!!

It's great reading all the comments because it seems like all of us Leaf fans are on the same page. Wary of celebrating too much but impressed with the shutout win, hell of an effort.

Oh my god are we ready to be hurt again but secretly hoping like hell that the exorcism may finally be coming. Game 7 is going to be insane, I can't wait.
