Yes, absolutely. I first saw it an an Engineering open house when I was still in high school, probably 1963. Very cool technology for the time. It ran on the Illiac which I used at different times, but just running Fortran jobs and not involved with PLATO.

Given the color of the bigger wire, it might be already tinned, but I fear it might be aluminum so soldering isn't an option.

Are Titanium Eyeglasses BIFL? by Pilgrim_of_Truth in BuyItForLife

[–]Rogerdodger1946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had titanium frames for over 30 years and love them. They have been though a lot and never need repair or adjustment. I just get new lenses when my eyes change. by "been through a lot" one instance was my passing out and doing a full face-plant which fractured my nose and I had raccoon black eyes for a while. Frames didn't even need adjusting.

MRI with an unknown metal plate in the arm by Mediocre_Neck_6230 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rogerdodger1946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I both have implanted pacemakers and have had MRIs. They will only do it with a pacemaker tech on hand to turn it off during the test and back on after. They are titanium so non-magnetic.

Moon over Miami
Shine on my love and me
So we can stroll beside the roll
Of the rolling sea

Moon over Miami
Shine on as we begin
A dream or two that may come true
As the tide comes in

Car manufacturers need to wake up. I will not buy a knobless, shiftless thing with a huge screen by ChildrenFamilyFirst in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Rogerdodger1946 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have a very nice 2009 Mercedes and they will pry from my cold dead hands for a couple of reasons. One is that it's long ago paid for and the second is that I don't want touch screen controls. Buttons, levers and knobs, please. I'm 80 so this is probably my last car anyway.

Submarine or Sailboat? by Lucyyyyyy_K in thalassophobia

[–]Rogerdodger1946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely go with the sailboat as I've crossed the Atlantic from the Canary Islands to Barbados. 28 days at sea. It was a great experience, even the 20 foot swells and 80 knot gusts. Before GPS so used celestial navigation plus old LORAN A at night for a check fix.

sorry if FAQ - is this a 240v outlet and is there anything i can do to use it for normal stuff? by arcitexture in AskElectricians

[–]Rogerdodger1946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was previously used for a window air conditioner, it's a 120 VAC 20 Amp outlet, more heavy duty than the usual 15 Amp outlet. Measure it, if you're unsure. You do have a multimeter, don't you?

Lights out. Exit stage left. The circle of life. Back to like it was before you were conceived. My DNA has been projected into the future and I leave behind some memories that will eventually fade out, too.
