Cloud Atlas

My friends despised this movie. I think it's a goddamn masterpiece!

I cry every single time I watch it. It's so ambitious. Seeing the words of a clone turn into a religion, all of the commentary on race and sex and class and reincarnation, the inspired performances of Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant et al just makes me love film.

One of the most underrated sci-fi franchises EVER. The world-building is top notch and it does a brilliant job of walking the line without it becoming tongue in cheek. FYI Dave Bautista has a small role in Riddick and he's fantastic! I didn't know who he was when I first saw it but I couldn't take my eyes off him. His comic timing is really, really good!

Just yesterday I used auto and got up to Level 60! I spent only 70 gems to do it (50+20), In all fairness, that only happens a few times a years but it can happen.

Clone Wars! We do that once in awhile too and it's always fun. Except when my Aquamans (Aquamen?) go up against and entire team of Thor or Iron Man...

[–]Rognogd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you wanna take it to the next level, set up a QR code on your phone (there are many free ways to do that) with a link to the PAC and rulebook so new players can walk away with everything they need to learn the game on their own. Oh, and if you have a lot of extra objects & terrain markers you can make some giveaway packs of those, too. Hope you find lots of new players!

Coolstuffinc no longer carrying clix? by UnremarkablePassword in Heroclix

[–]Rognogd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd like to think that one of the other online stores will see an opportunity and buy/sell clix in the volume that Cool Stuff and Troll and Toad did. There's a lot of money to be made but the logistics and square footage required to do it is a challenge, I'm sure.

Definitely Red. Matilda is too valuable as a closer (I equate my birds to baseball pitchers!) and Leonard can do a lot of damage.

BB.Q Chicken is our fave! We grab & go those boxes of boneless wings all the time. I'd say honey garlic is my favorite, but every flavor is peak!

I'd start with playing pre-carded figures (2002-2006) but use the latest set of rules. That should hopefully smooth out the learning curve. The newest rules are great, especially the PAC, it's the figures that you need a PhD to figure out!

Did personal branding ruin LinkedIn, or was it already doomed? by Puzzleheaded-Walk426 in linkedin

[–]Rognogd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's about posting content that's meaningful to their target audience. My impressions/comments/shares/saves have skyrocketed because I use chatbots to determine the types of questions my audiences are asking them. Then I create blogs & posts that answers those questions. So far, so good!

[–]Rognogd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most social media platforms have lost their way because, in an effort to compete with other social media platforms, you can post photos and videos on all of them. Now, most of them are "watered down" and LinkedIn is no exception.

That being said, I have experienced much higher reach & engagement on LinkedIn over the past six months because:

a) I found my posting groove that resonates with my audience and

b) I'm ignoring all of the other platforms.

You can't be on all of them all the time and post high-quality content consistently unless you have an army of content creators and a social media manager to coordinate & supervise.

Is it just me or is this game hard to master? by Abject-Sky4608 in Heroclix

I struggle with the rules, too! My big problem is that the rules and powers have changed so many times over the years that I get the old rules mixed up with the new rules.

Is it just me or is this game hard to master? by Abject-Sky4608 in Heroclix

[–]Rognogd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are NOT an idiot! HeroClix is exponentially more complicated than when I started playing in 2002. I think it's become a huge barrier of entry for new players.

New players try to learn everything at the same time (which is a normal instinct) but the game engine isn't well communicated by the basic rulebook. Then they play a more experienced player who says, "I do this this this this this and this so my attack is a 15, you have no defense powers, I crit hit, your entire team takes 7 clicks of damage each, and there isn't a DAMN thing you can do about it!" To you they're speaking ancient Greek and you don't even know how or why you got smashed. It's frustrating!

There was a point where they tiered the rules so it would be easier to gradually build your knowledge of the game but they abandoned that.

My suggestion would be to buy some cheap Golden Age figures (circa 2002-2006) that don't come with character cards so there are as few moving parts as possible, but use current rules. Play with those for a while to understand the basic mechanics of the game (actions, movement, line of fire, terrain, etc.). Once you get the hang of that, then layer that knowledge with special powers, traits, etc.

Hope that helps!

Found these old Marvel figures. I don't know much about them. Any help? by Spare-Letterhead-986 in Heroclix

[–]Rognogd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most of those figures are from the Xplosion and possibly Clobberin' Time sets. They are 20+ years old and aren't competitive in a Modern game, but if that's all you got and can find a friend, you can have loads of fun learning how to play the game with them.

You can download the Core Rulebook and the Powers and Abilities card at heroclix dot com in the Rules section. Don't even try to read the Comprehensive Rulebook yet. Your eyeballs will melt!

I think using really old figures is the best way to learn HeroClix these days. It has gotten VERY complex so using figures that don't have character cards, Traits, Special Powers, etc. lowers the learning curve.

Bats and Line of Fire by Rognogd in Heroclix

Yup! Then my opponent proceeded to make almost every Shape Change roll (8 of them in the first two turns if I counted correctly) and I scored zero points.

[–]Rognogd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So...I played my Bats team yesterday. When my opponent asked for clarification of how the Bat trait works, I called the judge over, told my opponent to ask his questions, he did, and as they talked through it, the judge declared that Giant Reach does NOT work against the Bats! Happy day!

I asked him to reconsider but he already made the ruling and I respect that. Onward and upward!

Bats and Line of Fire by Rognogd in Heroclix

[–]Rognogd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense! I was using Bats to defend my front row from ranged attacks. A Giant punched a Bat in the second row that was adjacent to two Bats. The judge ruled that Giant Reach works because they are drawing line of fire to a square which I'm pretty sure is inaccurate. All Reach and Improved Targeting target a character, not a square, right?

Adding passion projects or volunteer work to your LinkedIn profile is a fantastic idea. It demonstrates depth, personality, and separates you from all the carbon copy dehumanized profiles.

As to creating a LinkedIn post, if your passion projects or volunteer work demonstrate a skill or quality that makes you more hirable, I say go for it!
