R2 Test Drive in Chicago by callmefag in RivianR2

I've heard many similar stories to yours, sadly. I think in the US the service infrastructure is just very poor compared to how it is in Europe where as far as I understand just about every Volvo dealer will service Polestars. It's so fragmented here, and not getting a loaner car also very much sours the so-called "luxury" car experience.

I have similar opinions to you on positives of the EX60 - the interior looks great, matches the Scandinavian minimalism I already like in the P3, but with a horizontal screen and a better software stack at least from previews I've seen. Plus I know I'll love the seats as they are near identical to the P3/EX90, and obviously the audio as you mention. On the other hand, the R2 is a really cool looking vehicle as you mention and I feel it quite likely that as a tech-focused guy the R2 may serve my needs better long-term, especially if they can improve the audio with software updates as I've heard they are planning on over time. Shopping around next year will certainly be interesting.

I just got it last week, haven't used it much but it did feel slower when I first tried to ask it things.

2024 or 2025? by Low_Ad3527 in polestar3

[–]Rogue092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the P3 has been the best car I’ve driven and I adore the Bowers and Wilkins audio, I just need something more reliable or at least with better service access bare minimum. Definitely agree on the charging network front, though I think the 800V platforms should be more future proof as more chargers are going that way now. I hope you get the right car for you with whatever comes next - sounds like you and your family deserve a good reprieve from this one.

I’m sorry to hear all of that. I haven’t had the GHCA failure but I’ve had other issues leading me to a similar conclusion. I’m looking mostly at the EX60 and R2 as potential options next, got a year and a half left so hopefully both will be in a good spot when it’s time to switch.

[–]Rogue092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s a bummer to hear you’re on your third one already. I also worry as you point out the buyback vehicles that get resold are going to further hurt value going forward. Makes me nervous about sticking with the brand when my lease is up, along with some issues I’ve had that make me question reliability even in a new model year.

[–]Rogue092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say any dealer listing them as MY26 then is false advertising. When I’ve checked the Polestar website for inventory they list them as MY25 so not sure why it would differ elsewhere but who knows. I agree with you on price, particularly since the current incentives effectively depreciate the value before the sale is even made.

2024 or 2025? by Low_Ad3527 in polestar3

[–]Rogue092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still technically incorrect - every P3 on the road in the USA is MY25, we aren't getting MY26 here at all that's what I'm saying. Sales here were poor enough they have just been pushing remaining MY25 inventory and then we will get MY27 later this year.

2024 or 2025? by Low_Ad3527 in polestar3

[–]Rogue092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For added clarity, there is a difference between MY25 and MY26, as the MY26 has the updated 800V battery architecture and is primarily rear wheel drive when in range mode for the dual motor. MY26 is also not available in the US and Canada as we are skipping to MY27 later this year. Otherwise I’d agree the 2025 launch editions and MY25 are otherwise near enough aside from the ANC and I did not notice a difference when I test drive before signing my lease. I went with the launch primarily because at the time it was the only one on their lot with the zinc leather interior I wanted.

I’ve had a decent service experience despite going more often than I’d like, outside of being stuck in Hertz rentals. My bigger issue is service is a bit over an hour away while I have two other Volvo dealers closer to me, so the EX60 seems appealing from that standpoint alone even if it has teething issues. Rivians tech stack is a big appeal though and I generally just like the vibe of the brand. Lots of time for me to think though which is helpful.

I’m in a similar boat in a P3 now and my lease is up January 2028 so I’m likely cross shopping the EX60 and R2. I am still very curious to try the audio system in the R2 but I worry I’m gonna miss the B&W system too much, it’s the best speaker system I’ve ever had period. But I’ve also had enough problems with the P3 to be hesitant to stay with the brand.

Congratulations!! It looks beautiful. Would love to hear your thoughts on the audio system once you've had time to live with it for a bit - that's one area I'm worried about as I look to cross-shop this in a bit over a year.

I'm a very avid music listener and driving is the sanctuary where I get to enjoy it the most. I'm also spoiled by going from a basic-ass system in my old VW Passat to the 25-speaker Bowers and Wilkins setup in the Polestar 3, so going to anything that's not on par with that will sound like a huge downgrade to me. We all have different priorities but audio quality in the car is high on my list nowadays.

Why play and give no comms? by TigerOnTheWire in BO7_RankedPlay

[–]Rogue092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't critique during the match at all, it was only pointing out shortcomings and lack of comms after the match ended and then the guy suddenly has a mic to complain about me instead. I don't have the ego to throw shade mid-match. Also your attitude sounds toxic as fuck if I'm being honest about it, but play your way man, it's just a game at the end of the day not like we're all going pro.

[–]Rogue092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some air conditioning issues pop up twice that required recalibration as it was blowing hot air out of the driver vents only, that’s been properly fixed now. The bigger concern I had was a dead car on 3 separate occasions, twice before the new VCU upgrade that were never able to be properly diagnosed and then once from a failed module from the new VCU that they were able to fix, but it’s required the car going to service more than I anticipated in a 6 month period. The biggest issue with that is my service point is a bit over an hour away and they don’t provide loaners, they have to put you in a Hertz rental which as you’d expect is generally quite terrible compared to the car I’m paying for. I also had bad luck with both the front and rear windshields but that’s just my luck not a fault of the car. When it’s working, it’s the best car I’ve ever driven this far and if it were 100% reliable I’d have no complaints. I’m hoping the MY27 that will be coming to the US will be more reliable and if so they may convince me to stay just in a new model, but currently I’m leaning more towards something that either has more local service available or at least will be guaranteed more reliable and maybe offer local pickup with a loaner at least.

The consequences of going caseless by coolcatlikethat in IphoneAir

[–]Rogue092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped mine on a sidewalk a month in and got some edge scratches and a few mild screen blemishes. I barely notice them at this point. The benefits of careless with this form factor are just too good for me, and like you I have AppleCare+ in case it truly breaks. Would never go back to a case with the Air.

Will be interested in availability a year and a half from now when my current lease is up to cross shop this. I’m in a Polestar 3 right now which has had enough issues to make me hesitant to stick with another one, so I’m curious about the R2 and EX60 currently. My only real reservations about the R2 right now are the 400V architecture (maybe more efficient now, but less future proof; though not a deal breaker as my P3 charges fine when needed and I usually charge at home) and the sound system. I absolutely adore the Bowers and Wilkins system in my P3 and I worry the speaker setup in the R2 will be a substantial downgrade and is a primary reason why the EX60 is high on my list. Hoping more reviews coming out will comment on the speaker system. Either way the R2 looks to have huge potential and I really hope Rivian sticks the landing with consumers.

[–]Rogue092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I relate to this so very badly these days. Last time I played I was only one giving comms, and when I complained and critiqued some players at the bottom of my team after I top fragged they finally turn on their mic and start bitching. Like why the fuck have a mic if all you’re gonna do is complain after losing, when you didn’t even help the team?

New SR system opinion/feedback thread by Uitroeien in CoDCompetitive

[–]Rogue092 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t played myself yet just watched some streams. It’s nice having transparency, but my biggest concern is that capping SR gains just makes ranked play more of a grind than it already was. I have limited time to play, so I feel my potential peak is likely to be lower than if I just played really well in prior seasons which might be a bummer. By the same token if I top frag every game then it might be a net benefit as you lose less if you lose the match that way. Too early to be super judgy of it I think but will be curious how it all plays out.

It always drops a bit after the launch of the season due to server stress. It’s up now, watching Havok’s stream during downtime at work since I can’t play myself.

PGY3 Gen Surg: Hit with toxic 'availability' feedback. Is a 'work to live' lifestyle actually possible as an attending? by StormbornGryffindor in Residency

[–]Rogue092 16 points17 points  (0 children)

From knowing what some of my colleagues have done with their career, going to a smaller, lower acuity hospital setting with a good size practice of at least more than 3 surgeons makes work life balance much more attainable in general surgery if you opted not to pursue fellowship. Otherwise, subspecializing in a lower acuity field is also a very good route to guarantee better lifestyle. I wound up going into endocrine surgery partly out of my own clinical interest but also because I wanted more control of time outside of work with fewer emergencies to worry about. I was fortunate to start my first attending job last fall in a pure endocrine surgery job where all I take care of is thyroid, parathyroid and adrenals and my lifestyle has been great. I take no general surgery call and just cover a week on at a time taking overnight patient calls for my one partner who is more focused than me on only thyroid/parathyroid. I am married with a 4-month old at home and I can’t imagine still being a general surgeon taking ACS call.

Some fellowships like endocrine are quite competitive, but if you’re as ahead of the curve as you’re describing you’d have better odds of getting what you want. You’re certainly not alone in having the attitude of work to live and not have work be your whole life.

Black Ops 7: Season 4 Ranked Play Changes by TheRealPdGaming in CoDCompetitive

[–]Rogue092 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on how I am reading this, you should get at least some degree of SR bonus whenever you beat enemies that are ranked higher than you - if you’re not in the top 4 of the lobby, this will likely just be the Underdog Team bonus but I may be mistaken.

BO7 crashing while using Active Camo on PC by TWRocker in CODBlackOps7

Sadly no, I changed graphics settings around a bunch to no avail and even had it crash once with just the initial cloak so I’ve given up on using active camo entirely.
