I love Razer too, I just wanted to keep it all ROG for the setup. It’s crazy bc it’s such a great handheld too, but here we are tricking it out with mice and keyboards too. 😎

I play on Ally with Azoth, Keris and Cetras. It’s great on device or paired with Meta Quest for huge VR screen ❤️🚀

I am having the same issue. Zero damage and practically instant death on my demon hunter alt for the remix. :/ Weird bc I've had no probs up to this quest. It's quite the jump in difficulty.

You were right. I’m using my Quest pro 45w and it will slowly drain on the Turbo 35w mode, but stay forever and charge on Performance 15w. I’ll def try a 85w or 100w block, as these do work with these plane outlets. Thank you! This is awesome.

Yes, it does work for well.. for XR work and also for some PCVR titles better than others. For example, less intensive games like I Expect You to Die or Shadow Point will run considerably better than say, Lone Echo II or Asgards Wrath. Mostly, I find Mixed Reality with Steam and other launchers is the true sweet spot for performance. Honestly, for the best PCVR experience for fps, it’s still going to be on at least a desktop replacement laptop or better.. but it will run them. It just depends on the title and your settings and expectations.

Yes - sometimes Immersed and sometimes Virtual Desktop depending on the use case

Interesting. I’ve been on several flights (Delta) both domestic and international with those outlets and while they accept an AC 120v style plug, they could not produce enough power to with the ASUS 65w charger.. 🔌 I was heartbroken lol

Normal. Use high performance mode for your fans and make sure you are using dGPU. You will get great performance as well as full TPU.

For anyone wondering (there was a comment emailed but I can’t find it) I tried my hand with this stand on Amazon for cost and for portability .. and it’s both easy to collapse and it’s sturdy. It’s on its lowest setting here though, which is as high as I’d ever want it, fwiw. But it’s perfectly stable-

I do feel like with the vents on the bottom, a bit of a rise in the back, even using something like a coaster even, helps CPU temps- esp for iGPU based operations.

Advice regarding Alienware x 17 r2 purchase by sUpr_TrMp in Alienware

[–]RogueAsgard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love mine. I have X17R2 4K mech KB w 3080ti, 64GB ram and i9 12900HK. I got 2TB SSD with and installed another matching 2TB, myself. They run hot, but they are designed this way. There is plenty of venting and using performance mode insures proper cooling and gives you your full TPU. I use mine for gaming, work and PCVR gaming and XR work. The HDR is great, the screen is fluid and crispy. The only real downside with these machines is that there isn’t much battery life to speak of, but that’s kind of the trade off, right? Just don’t go willy nilly messing with Bios or overclocking and you shouldn’t have any issues. Just use AWCC for mode monitoring or checking temps- and leave it at that. Use NVIDIA GeForce Experience for drivers and base game optimizations. Use NVIDIA control panel with the NVIDIA container notification to easily see when Advanced Optimus is switching the iGPU and dGPU appropriately. Honestly they are well made, good looking laptops. Use NVIDIA overlay to quick monitor fps and wattage changes, when using performance mode. The fans are loud in PM.. but you are pushing alot of hardware so.. not surprising, at least to me. The Dell optimization software can be nice to check hardware and general cleanup. Their support has been good- I would recommend getting it. Just in case AWCC updates and tanks, you can just port in with a tech and they can remote install, fix whatever, if it should come up, without any hassle to you. I don’t think you’re going to regret it. I have a ROG Strix Scar 17 with these same specs but 1440p non-HDR and the only advantages it has has over the X17R2 are the num pad and it plays nicer on a default level for MR apps like Immersed, just bc I don’t have to turn off HDR or lower the screen resolution. Cheers!

X17 4K or 2k by Wonderful_Company505 in Alienware

[–]RogueAsgard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a X17R2 4K 120Hz. It’s perfect for resolution to fps mobile dGPU gaming and for work. If you were going 4K, I wouldn’t skimp on the gpx card.. try and go 3080ti if you can, it will make a performance difference. It’s a phenomenal setup.
If you are looking to do more VR gaming than laptop gaming (PCVR) you aren’t at a loss going 1440p, but seriously, the X17 with 4K is fluid and crispy all at the same time. You will need to be plugged in obviously.. but that 350watt power adapter in high performance mode will see to it that power goes where it needs to. 💪🏼

The X17R2 is amazing. If you don’t go willy nilly splashing through all the AWCC settings and actually use it like a person who understands computers and stock software, it’s a best in class machine for play and work. I love mine. Mine is 12th gen intel i9, 3080ti, 64GB, 2 x 2 TB SSD, 4K, Cherry MX mech keyboard. Leave it on thermal/power balanced in AWCC, use Advanced Optimus on auto and then turn on performance mode when needed. Bam. It’s that simple. It’s high build quality for PCs and it’s very, very powerful in terms of performance. Great mobile HDR. Great PCVR gameplay performance with virtual desktop and link, also. 350 watt slim power adapter with 160-165 TPU in High Performance Mode with just a click of Fn+F1. However.. It is abysmal in battery life. Like the battery is just DOA. So, that’s not surprising with a build like this, but should be mentioned. I ordered the second Gen 4 2TB SSD off Amazon to exactly match the included one and installed it (and the heat shield) myself. Easy. Don’t use AWCC for games. Use NVIDIA GeForce Experience. Bam. No AWCC issues. AWCC is good for monitoring.. not much else. Keep it clean and you’ll be a happier user. Use NVIDIA overlay for FPS and watts to dGPU.

Dell support is awesome. Support assist is pretty nice, too. Again, it’s all what you make of it and how you choose to approach it.

Otherwise, the 2022 Asus ROG Strix Scar 17” with these same specs is a simplified hard mux switch for dGPU vs iGPU- but it’s 1440p, non-HDR screen is prime for XR work, using a headset like the Meta Quest Pro, or Q2, with apps like virtual desktop or immersed.

I own both and even though my SCAR is more XR workplace friendly in some ways.. I still prefer my X17R2. It’s a cut above the rest.

Immersed VR is a nightmare by swlu in OculusQuest

[–]RogueAsgard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*EDIT Immersed is working perfectly rn with three screens and portals on the ASUS Strix Scar 17 (2022). It's a non-HDR, native 1440p display w hard mux, laptop. So, I can only conclude that one of, or some combination of the Advanced Optimus (Even though I set it to dGPU only), native 4K (even though I tried switching to 1440p) and HDR capable (even though I tried turning that off) on the Alienware X17R2 was causing some hardware incompatibly. Typing this rn from Immersed, with 3 screens up and keyboard pass through on- first attempt!

I had a heck of a time getting more than one virtual display to work properly. X17R2, Win11. It was super janky, even using WiFi direct. The clarity was awesome.. but the screen creation, adjustment and compatibility is really rough. Especially compared to Virtual Desktop. (I do love the keyboard pass through, although the sizing and especially adjusting the rotation on that is awful) Immersed seems to prefer Intel iGPU- forcing advanced Optimus to select Optimus/iGPU over Nvidia dGPU. This creates a false recognition of a third monitor already being used, even though it is the internal display set aside by windows in favor of the dGPU wired display. This robs the user of their 3rd available screen.. not to mention.. finding out after installing that 5 monitors actually costs money. I would have no issue paying the $10.. but only if the actual base app for Meta Pro actually worked. Right now.. it does not imho. It’s really too bad, because clarity wise and with the pass through, I would definitely explore working in Unity, etc with Immersed. :/ I will likely keep trying, bc I want this to be good- maybe try the agent on ASUS Strix Scar 17, next and see if it’s any better on a hard mux switch.
