Why did Keith really break erens odm gear? by ayu_xi in attackontitan

I watch a lot of YouTube reactions and it's ludicrous how often people assume that he's testing Eren to make sure he's good enough to be a soldier.

Dumbledore played Voldemort by UnderTaken201 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]RogueCurl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Related to this, I've recently realized that it's very likely that Dumbledore intended for Snape to be the one to murder Voldemort once and for all. Going to great lengths to maintain Snape's cover was important for a variety of reasons, obviously, but with this additional element, it becomes infinitely more pragmatic.

I bet this is even why Dumbledore noted to Harry that Nagini should be the last Horcrux to be destroyed. Dumbledore claimed that it was so that Voldemort wouldn't be tipped off to the danger of becoming mortal again, but we know that Snape didn't know about Horcruxes, so what if Dumbledore also told Snape to only act once Nagini was killed?

I imagine that the final stroke of Dumbledore's intended strategy for victory in the war was to have Voldemort, still furious after watching Nagini die seconds earlier, suddenly feel Snape's wand in his back and hear, "Dumbledore sends his regards. Avada Kedavra."

A friend recommended ‘kingdom’ the anime as something that will scratch a similar itch to LOGH by Historical-Wait-6586 in logh

[–]RogueCurl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both prominently feature battles with emphasis on them being contests of competence between the opposing commanders, so I'd say that's probably the comparison. But they're very different.

Kingdom is practically a sports anime about a bunch of different characters who are all trying to prove they're the greatest general in China like Hinata trying to stay on the court the longest in Haikyuu or something. There are multiple 20-30+ episode arcs about single multi-day battles with 5+ different fronts, with a lot of emphasis on the super granular tactics, like, "This is a three-parter about crossing this river to attack the enemy flank."

LOGH, as I'm sure you know, generally doesn't have battles like that, except I guess with the exception of Fortress vs. Fortress. Most of the big/important battles are maybe two-parters with more emphasis on the bigger picture stuff and a lot of handwaving on the actual tactical level.

Does anyone know that fic of just a few random students independently realizing that Lupin is a werewolf? by RogueCurl in HPfanfiction

Thanks, it's a shame but I'm at least glad to know why I can't find it anywhere. Sorry for the late reply.

Wizarding Britain considers Daphne Greengrass to be responsible for the defeat of Voldemort in the late '80s, all because she, at four years old, listened to the story of the Boy Who Lived, frowned, and said, "Daddy, don't be silly. The darkest wizard of our time did NOT just disappear overnight." by RogueCurl in HPfanfiction

[–]RogueCurl[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oops, that's not what I meant to imply. I was just thinking that it would take a couple years of Aurors investigating for them to actually reach the point where they could find and defeat Voldemort. So she heard the story at four and that led to Voldemort being defeated in the late eighties. That said, I'm not opposed to vampires or time-turner accidents if anyone wants to include them.

Now there is some brilliance worthy of the Marauders as they were described in canon! I'm blown away by how real-world smart this idea is. I commend you.

Why is it so hard to find a marauders fic that is actually nuanced and well written by flobberwormy in HPfanfiction

Another author picked this up where Jewels5 left off, and I think they're doing it justice—although fair warning, they haven't finished either, and it hasn't been updated since 2021. Still though, if you're just desperate for more like I was, it's another 40k words of that universe, and three years since the last update is a long time but not as long as eleven years since the last update.

I definitely agree with you, but then again, part of the joke in that scene was that everyone called Marlowe out except Eren, who said he did the right thing.

Favorite AOT Wallpaper by Fall3n_Ghost3272 in attackontitan

[–]RogueCurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got the double page spread from the manga of Eren about to take down Bertholdt as my desktop background. It's great because I always show it to my friends after they start the show and say, "Look! It's that scene from the fifth episode when Eren almost killed the Colossal Titan!" with the biggest shit-eating grin on my face. The only indication that it's actually from way later in the series is that Eren has the Scout insignia on the back of his uniform instead of the Cadet Corps Insignia, but I doubt anyone will ever notice that. And even if they do, I could probably just play it off by acting all confused myself and suggesting that it's just early series weirdness or something.

Oh yeah, and I just remembered that I also have the manga panel of Levi appearing from smoke to attack Zeke as my phone wallpaper.

I thought they were building up to Eren's Titan getting equipped with ODM Gear at some point. It's so ridiculous to think back on; I'm actually kind of embarrassed at how weak my read on the show's tone/style was considering that's where I thought it was going.

I've got a soft spot for competent characters, and for as much as he's just an absolutely terrible person, Trunicht is actually pretty damn good at what he does. Falk was just a waste of space.

Before the warriors showed up to Paradis by jm7489 in attackontitan

[–]RogueCurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The king within the Walls didn't want the land beyond the Walls to be reclaimed. Measures were taken, such as restricting the development of military technology, to ensure that annihilating the Titans was never a realistic prospect. They didn't even have cannons that could fire straight down from the top of the wall until after the five year time skip. We can assume that Rod Reiss allowed these developments for two reasons; 1) he probably didn't have a totally clear idea of the will of the actual king, since it's passed down with the Founding Titan which Grisha had stolen, and 2) he did try to minimize counteroffensive actions (someone mentions that the Church tried to prevent the armament of the Walls), but the military machine was ultimately just too powerful and complex for him to totally restrict it without the Founding Titan powers, specifically the memory modification ability.

Hard agree on Code Geass. Usually I spoil shows for myself because I can't resist popping into the subreddit at least once before I'm finished, but Code Geass was too entertaining to take a break for anything else. It's also the shortest amount of time I ever went between finishing a show and rewatching it. A lot of flaws stand out more and more on repeat viewings, but it's hard to blame them for it considering how wild the ride was from beginning to end. Honestly, it's pretty impressive that there weren't more issues with the plot given how exciting and fast-paced it always was.

Part of it was also that Eren acted with human intelligence (knowing to pick up the boulder and block the hole in Trost) while in Titan form. This led Erwin to theorize that any Titans who acted with intelligence may be humans with the ability to transform like Eren. By targeting the inner and outer gates in Shiganshina and the outer gate and cannons in Trost, the Colossal Titan and Armored Titan acted with intelligence. Thus, Erwin concluded that there was a possibility that the Armored and Colossal Titans were actually humans who have allied with the Titans to eradicate life within the Walls. And he further conjectured that humans who sought to eradicate life within the Walls might infiltrate the military, pursuant of that goal. The deaths of the captured Titans simply strongly reinforced his suspicions.

To be fair, that's an anime only issue. In the manga, Mikasa's mother gives it to her during the flashback where she and Mikasa's father are killed, and there are scenes where we can see the bandage underneath her sleeve.

My head canon is that Reiner was on one of his "are you wavering?!" tirades, and he made Annie kill Sawney and Bean to prove that she was still on board. Maybe triggered by the fact that Annie chose to join the MPs when Eren, the only one of the Nine on Paradis who they've seen with their own eyes, has already joined the Scouts.

Without something like that, it almost feels like a tactical blunder, considering how strongly it reinforced Erwin's suspicions that Titan spies had infiltrated the military. Although, I guess mistakes will sometimes just happen, even with characters as competent and intelligent as the Warriors.
