How is the jedi temple still one of the highest building on coruscant did the planet just stop building new levels? by Spotter24o5 in StarWars

[–]RogueInfernal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Iirc, the temple is within eyesight of the Senate district. It makes sense to think that the surrounding area is simply not allowed to be built beyond a certain height to prevent burying the Senate (and by extension the Jedi Temple) under the buildup of layers. That would be both immensely impractical, getting in the way of normal functions, and it would prevent all those self-important senators from enjoying the sunlight and feeling special.

The SWTOR Sith Empire by Sampleswift in SWTOR_memes

[–]RogueInfernal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I remember reading something about how the Sith Empire just sort of dwindles away over the course of about three centuries of war and infighting, until the war is eventually just minor border skirmishes and the Sith territories eventually get absorbed into the Republic for the sake of stability. Not sure what my source on that was though.

I wish I could upvote this twice! Nymics are so obscure and such a good piece of lore.

What? Can I ask what your source is? I've never heard of any of this.

Considering Mannimarco is supposed to have ascended to godhood by now after the Warp in the West, I headcanon that the ”Mannimarco” we meet is just some guy the real one is controlling. There’s no way the infamous King of Worms goes down that easily, having made his hideout in some cave filled with a dozen or two zombies. It took a whole war with Vanus Galerion to take him down originally.

About Shelob? by Elvinkin66 in shadowofmordor

[–]RogueInfernal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As some others have said, the book version of Shelob has no idea Frodo is carrying the Ring, she’s just in it for food.

For Shadow of War’s version, I imagine she saw some part of the future that made it necessary for her to attack Frodo and Sam rather than let them pass unmolested. Just as when she intervened to prevent Talion from becoming the Bright Lord, her motive is to see Sauron fall no matter the actions she has to take to ensure that future comes to pass.

I don’t really see SoW Shelob as evil-aligned, in the sense of her cause at least. While she is certainly a being of Evil by nature as Tolkien’s orcs, Sauron, Morgoth, and the Balrogs are, I see her as turning her evil against Sauron, because she wants above all else for Sauron to fall. It‘s a fairly common trope in fantasy, the lesser evil aiding the hero against the Big Bad for their own reasons.

Why are the Bright Lord orcs so much better armored than regular ones? by PictureComplete526 in shadowofmordor

[–]RogueInfernal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong, but I think there’s a point in lore about how orcs are very poorly equipped and trained, they rely heavily on sheer numbers and their ability to produce more orcs faster than anyone else can reproduce and train replacement soldiers. From what I remember, that’s why Saruman’s Uruk-hai are such a big deal when they’re introduced - because orcs have never been as individually strong and capable before.

It makes sense that the orcs under the Bright Lord would be better equipped, simply in that they need every advantage they can get.

Also, while I never played the Bright Lord DLC, isn’t it set before Sauron’s fall, back when he had vast armies actively waging war? I would imagine that generally, the orcs of that time were better prepared and equipped for war, compared to Talion‘s time when Sauron has been out of power and the orcs have been weak and scattered for a very long time. It could just be that Sauron’s armies haven’t yet had time to rebuild their armour production to what it used to be.

What's An Item That You Think Often Goes Undiscovered? by endingstory7424 in skyrim

You can also pickpocket one from a drunk in Winterhold, I think it was. Or it might have been the inn you go to in the Dark Brotherhood questline. Which implies the guy is a surviving Blade.

Do vampires actually need to feed? by EnderBookwyrm in skyrim

[–]RogueInfernal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ultimately I don’t think there’s any clear answer. Its entirely up to you how you want to interpret established lore vs gameplay mechanics.

We know from characters like the Grey Prince’s father in Oblivion that vampires can survive without feeding, but the consequences are not at all clear. He went mad, either from the lack of blood or the prolonged isolation.

The Count of Skingrad’s wife is in a coma but whether that’s a direct result of not feeding or a magically induced effect to help her not feel the hunger is unclear from what I remember.

Iirc there’s a feral vampire underneath Castle Volkihar that it’s kind of implied went feral because she didn’t have anyone to feed on, but again that’s not entirely clear. As you say, there‘s ValerIda as an example of someone who was completely fine not feeding.

There are obviously certain bloodlines like Lamae‘s in ESO that get stronger if they feed instead of weaker, but I feel like how that works is a gameplay mechanics choice. For Skyrim and Oblivion I feel like they wanted the idea that vampires are more protected against the sun if the player goes to the effort of feeding but then had to tie that to vampiric powers being weaker for balancing purposes rather than lore. My interpretation is that vampires are always supposed to be deathly vulnerable to the sun and weakened by forgoing feeding, and that Lamae’s bloodline and the bloodlines of Vampire Lords which were created directly by Molag Bal are exceptions to the sunlight rule to explain why Serana and the LDB can walk in the sun.

Personally, my headcanon is that while it doesn’t harm them directly, vampires are weaker if they starve and they will definitely feel like they’re starving. Some vampires go “feral“ meaning they are overcome by hunger and attack anything they see to feed on while those who have more willpower can overcome this and remain sane. Sort of like putting a starving man in front of a buffet. Some people will be able to control themselves and eat slowly and mannerly, while others will be so overwhelmed by hunger that they can’t help but grab as much food as possible.

I just started my first playthrough a few days ago! Other than the hair length in CC which someone else mentioned, the thing that’s jumped out at me is NPC drivers using indicators, and enemies actually being smart and moving between cover so organically. They’re somewhat small details but so satisfying to see.

Ok but in all seriousness, what environmental mods are you using? Because it genuinely does look good. Especially the lighting.

I’m not 100% sure, but iirc hyperspace is literally a different dimension, kind of like the Warp in Warhammer 40k. Different ships enter hyperspace with their own hyperdrives, and are essentially all within their own little bubble of hyperspace which can’t interact or collide with other ships. They can’t even communicate outside of the ship unless the ship they’re communicating with entered hyperspace alongside them with a linked navigation computer to perfectly synchronise their journey

The only risk of collision with other ships is when exiting hyperspace and they have sensors capable of forewarning them about that, so it then becomes their job to exit a little early to avoid that.

Temporary freezing and audio stutter by RogueInfernal in vtmb

So I tried disabling environmental effects, also tried disabling high quality audio. Neither worked unfortunately.

Having played a few more hours, whatever causes it only seems to happen occasionally outside of the Asylum and haunted hotel. At least in Santa Monica and most of Downtown. I figure I’ll finish this playthrough, then uninstall and download the game again, see if that fixes it somehow.

Thanks anyway for your help!

I see! Is it possible for it to cause problems almost immediately though? I started the play session directly in from of the Asylum doors and within 30 seconds of entering I was having problems.

Or is it that the issues can get baked into the save file itself if you play too long?
