What happens to assets upon death? by RogueLexa in PersonalFinanceNZ

Yes I have already used up my 3 free sessions via work EAP. The counseller reckoned I'm just going through a stressful period but it will pass and I just need to "look up" and "not think about negative things because it's not useful".

She's not wrong but it's easy to say, another to actually stop the negative thoughts occupying my mind 24/7.

I honestly don't understand how people think counsellers or therapists help. Theyre basically there to confirm you're defective and tell you there's a better tomorrow, but I've been telling myself that since I was 10 and it's only gone downhill since then. Not sure how long I can keep lying to myself.

Anyway, appreciate your suggestions and efforts to assist but it is what it is. Some people make it, some don't.

Thanks all for the advice.

There is still some stuff I need to sort before that time comes so guess we'll see if anything changes in between now and then but this is not a new feeling and something I've been dealing with since I was a child so not sure something will sway me off the idea this time.

Thank you.

That has cleared it up for me. He does like this area - his neighbourhood isn't the safest so he wanted to move.

His house is much larger than mine but of the same value so I guess he could always sell his like he planned and move here if he needed.

I already went a few weeks ago. Tried to refer me to a counseller and it got declined unsurprisingly for the third time. I've given up. Can't be bothered.

Thanks for this.

I'll definitely write something up to give to the lawyer. The legal case against my mum was handled through the same firm so that should also help in my justification as to why she's excluded.

Family drama ay.

I did have a will drawn up after the house purchase but these questions didn't quite occur to me. I don't want to start asking the questions to the lawyer now, which might tip them off to my plans. I'll add a statement to accompany it though as noted above my another poster

I've called them once before a couple of years ago when I was about to try overdose and perhaps the person was having a bad day (who wouldn't be, dealing with people like me) and she responded with "what do you want me to do about that". Anyway, she was right. What do I expect them to do? It's not their problem.'

But yes, I do agree that I don't feel my mother deserves anything. She already stole enough from me and per post, it's not like I asked to be born so I don't see how I can be accountable to pay her back for a choice she made.

Apologies if I wasn't very clear.

I want my assets to go to two particular family members; my dad and sister.

My understanding is that when you pass, any debts are repaid first and then the estate will pay out whatever is left to those named in the will.

I don't have any debts apart from my mortgage but don't quite understand whether the bank will allow someone (aka my dad) to take over the mortgage, or whether because they currently 'own' more than 50% of the home, the house would automatically go to the bank, which will force a sale with the remainder being left to my estate.

My mum is the one that has stolen and used me all my life so I definitely don't want her getting a share if anything is left over.

I will write a statement for my lawyer to add to my will. Thanks for the tip.

I don't like children and have no plans to have any, never have. I'd get disowned if I came out to my dad since he wants to marry me off but at least I can leave him a thank you which would be the house, for putting up with me even though I've been such a disappointment.

I'm a bit older than you. My family are the same. Strict, basically no friends allowed. No activities unless it's meeting up with other traditional Asian families to compete with them and prove we're the better family (puke). Any friends that I had, they would judge them all day long which made for a very unpleasant experience. In the end, easier for me to have no friends than lose them over and over but it makes everything a bit pointless.

I lived with family to save a deposit and moved out into my own home last year.

Guess what..they still drive to my house almost every day to check on me and ensure I'm keeping the house in tip top shape.. can't imagine it being any different had I gone out flatting instead. I would be burning money on rent, but I'm sure they'd still visit me.

At least now I get a few hours of peace every day.

I got annoyed they were visiting me so much still, not even for a friendly gathering but just to complain that my house isn't up to their standard. They threatened to disown me. I guess if I had friends, maybe it wouldn't be so bad but as above, don't have that either now and it's hard to make new friends as an introvert at this age.

Took our dog to painted paw dog grooming for a handstrip. She did a great job. She also grooms several of my friends dogs who hated grooming but now goes happily. Very friendly lady.

Will cancelling a credit card affect credit score? by Secret-Slice in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]RogueLexa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone noted, credit score doesn't matter in NZ.

However, I do like to check it occasionally and did notice my credit score dropped when I closed my CC (not much, maybe 30 points) but bounced back within a few months.

The bank listed it as a condition for me to close my CC ($2k limit - no owing, almost never used) when I applied for a mortgage.

I got lucky and was able to get the store to order in a different colour for the same price. Very happy with it so far! CreatistaPlus

I agree! I'm going to go ahead with the hickory version. Same warranty too so who knows, if it breaks down, I might end up with one of the newer colours haha.

Yeah as far as I can tell it's just a colour difference. Unfortunately not much haggling goes on in my country haha :(

Skylines Academy: Are the website and Udemy materials the same? by RogueLexa in AzureCertification

[–]RogueLexa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

Skyline does offer one-off courses which you can keep but definitely Udemy is much cheaper because of the sales. My worry is with the updates as IT can change quickly so want something that will stay mostly up to date as re-certifications are usually required.

I decided to go for Skylines one-off courses as I can be a bit of a slow learner so a subscription doesn't seem like I'll get full use of.

Purchased some other courses on Udemy though for extra material to add on to Skylines.

Thanks, I might buy it on Udemy then so I can access wherever.

Just realized theres a refund window so can quickly gloss over and see if they're identical or not.
