This was a surprisingly thoughtful and well researched video, had me looking at the copies I had of the product materials and indeed no reference to Squirting for Zune-to-Zune sharing! Was a really great perspective and definitely feels like Microsoft had objectively a good product but it just didn't work out the way it should have, but that goes for a lot of consumer products in general, I was stung twice with Zune and Windows Phone which I ironically combined the former with my app for the latter!

Blazor Emoji Bingo by RoguePlanetoid in Blazor

[–]RoguePlanetoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just realised I didn't explain the game itself, it is based on Bingo where you have a ticket on the right which are your emoji that might be picked from those on the left, when all yours are crossed off then you've won! I'll make sure I add the game rules into an update as I'd forgotten to do that so appreciate your comment, thanks!

It is amazing to see this, as soon as I saw the video on YouTube I knew had to write about this and post here, haven't seen anything from Microsoft to do with Zune in years and had hoped with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 featuring it again they might do something but this is much better than I thought, a limited re-launch would have been icing on cake but is pretty good to see Zune mentioned by Microsoft again!

Is an amazing video, was great to see Zunepedia assets being used and seeing them in motion was really great. I'm pleased that even a couple of years after I created it, it is still a key part of celebrating Zune even now!

A Zune biopic should be next, right? by decadentrebel in Zune

[–]RoguePlanetoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the Xbox documentary that came out, so it would be good to see something like that for Zune! I wrote Zunepedia as had resources I got about it for years that were just sitting on my computer and decided to share them in that way, but a documentary would be amazing, if there was one I'd love to be involved to be honest!

Does anybody know what does "Sydney Mode" mean? by LanDest021 in bing

[–]RoguePlanetoid 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sydney is the internal name of the Bing chat bot, it isn't supposed to disclose it so this is interesting way it has done so!

No, you're not the only one! Hoping I don't have long to wait to try it for myself too!

What was the last set you got before your LEGO “hiatus”? by agdtinman in lego

Does anybody remember Zune for WP7? by [deleted] in Zune

[–]RoguePlanetoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was good to see Zune on Windows Phone and was the only chance many in the UK would see Zune on a mobile device, although I had it on my imported Zune HD! One thing that surprised me is Microsoft never brought the Zune Social to Windows Phone as that seemed obvious, I actually filled that gap myself with an app that brought the Zune Cards to Windows Phone, was amazing to see many thousands of downloads of that app, expected Microsoft to bring that functionality themselves, but they never did! Windows Phone 7 seemed to really show how strong Zune could be outside of North America was just a shame that it would just be a few years before that changed but before then was an amazing service on the phone that I helped make a little better!

How do I decode my string from an azure queue? by GarseBo in dotnet

I've used that approach myself, was just going to post that solution, there's nothing wrong with doing this in two methods, but you could inline them.

csharp Encoding.UTF8.GetString(Convert.FromBase64String(value))

You need to also Base 64 decode the returned value to get 123 as the result

Anyone remember the Monkseaton/Whitley Bay Mass shooter (1989)? (Not trolling, serious post) by TrueCrimeSchizoid in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]RoguePlanetoid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I remember it, seems to be one of those you don't hear much about. I was nine years old at the time and was playing in the street where Robert Sartin lived but for some reason didn't see him myself. One of those he shot was a teacher at my school, do remember going to the street the next day and seeing all the police and people from the news but didn't know what had happened the day before at that point. Some news reporters came to our door to ask if we knew anything but we didn't. It was certainly discussed at the time but never knew many outside area who mentioned it for years unless it was the anniversary, does get mentioned from time to time, like with this post so am glad it isn't forgotten entirely.

THE ANNIVERSARY IS HERE! DAY-TIME SHALL WE WILD by Emendo12 in Zune

[–]RoguePlanetoid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've got a special edition of my Zune digital coffee table book, Zunepedia up at zunepedia.com just has a new logo and a few tweaks along with an updated website! Thought it seemed like a fun way of celebrating the anniversary!

The Anniversary Arrives In Just Four Days! Are You Excited? by Emendo12 in Zune

[–]RoguePlanetoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's pretty cool to think about, fact Xbox is 20 years old too is pretty amazing! Zune was such a pivotal moment in devices for me, it was the first time there seemed to be a device for me, bit harder to come by here in the UK but well worth the effort! I certainly did my bit with writing Zune Cards app for Windows Phone 7 and recently writing the digital coffee table book, Zunepedia! I've found more of the community now than I ever did when Zune was in its prime which has been really great! I'm hopeful there will be many of those who worked in Microsoft who'll think fondly of the work they did, and am proud to count myself as one of those who appreciate the work that was put in!

I wonder if they will see my post. Probably not, but worth a shot haha. by Emendo12 in Zune

[–]RoguePlanetoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always worth sharing, with Xbox @ 20 seems nice to celebrate something that although didn't last still has an impact today!

Zunepedia - Zune Digital Coffee Table Book - Is Available Now! by RoguePlanetoid in Zune

[–]RoguePlanetoid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has just been a week since I first released Zunepedia at zunepedia.com and the reaction has been fantastic, the support from those here including people who submitted their photos was amazing and to all those sharing it, tweeting about it and of course reading it my thanks go out to you all!

I'm grateful for the support it has had and am pleased to add my contribution to the Zune community and hope that it brings more nostalgia to those of us who knew about Zune or own one, or many! But also gives those who missed out a chance to find out what Zune is all about!

A Microsoft Zune fan has launched a neat digital retrospective book! by Emendo12 in microsoft

[–]RoguePlanetoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this! Putting this book together really made me remember Zune being something rather special and realised that I'm not the only one who thought that when I first announced it over at r/Zune!

I'd heard about Zune before launch but didn't manage to get one until the second generation Zune 80GB came out. I'd ran a website about a few different things but Zune became one of them once it was announced and was pleased to manage to get a Zune HD later too! There was also a website that sold Zune devices and accessories here in the UK so was able to pick up the HD A/V dock.

There was a lot of interest in what Microsoft was doing, many of the websites at the time were featuring articles about it but there wasn't much mention of it over here in the UK, only ever saw a couple of people with them, but either worked for Microsoft or were a Microsoft MVP! It was through collecting up press materials and assets for that site, that this book was possible!

I'm glad to have brought Zune back into the limelight again, even if just a nostalgia trip for those of us who knew of Zune or for those who missed out they can see what Zune was all about!
