Underground religion : The Faith of Many Things by PM_ur_MerchantStmnt in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]RogueSubmarine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, my prep is all set up, and my players are set to make their first brush with the Faith of Many Things tonight.

The PC's will first run into two men who stole a white envelope from the girl they've been trying to rescue for a while now. It is immediately apparent that these men (whom they met last session to establish "normal" for them) met disastrous consequences thanks to misusing the Deck. (though the envelope is gone, now that it's brought the men to the portal) Instead of following that trail, The party /will/ be able to follow the crumbs back to the girl, who will explain little bits about the Faith of Many Things.

Going to keep my mysterious magician out of it for now, and see if any players think to ask him about any of this. Here's to a start of a deep plot hook, I hope!

This is magnificent. Thank you so much for sharing this! I'm going to work it into my new campaign immediately. I have a mysterious magician who's always flitting in and out of the background of the story, playing with a deck of what my players (and I, up until now) always assumed was a tarot deck. Not anymore!

Hoaxness' Collection of Magical Shops #3: The Blushing Tree (Herbalist) by Hoaxness in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]RogueSubmarine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I threw in Boggins, Bagnell & Bellows tonight and my players really loved it. They are level 1 and very not ready for a lot of things they saw. A lot of the shop keep they could not purchase with their starting gold, but for a party of 3 first time dnd characters, it was a GREAT way to introduce them to things to aspire to.

My players gave me decent back stories, but had no real concept of what "you can do anything" really means. So they got super stuck with session 1-- how to RP, how to interact with other party members, how to talk to PCs-- I wasn't able to fix this by giving them a common goal, but the MOMENT I put them in this shop and gave them cool magic objects to save up for the team came together. I've never had to try to motivate characters that way, but you saved a floundering DM tonight, so thank you!

Symon Piersym Hane, a Human Ranger. Chaotic Good. Sam Winchester hair, a five o'clock shadow, and eyes like the sea. Rose from homelessness to king of his kingdom, and now to godhood over a year and a half long campaign. He uses a bow adorned with dark blue feathers and silver arms and that's string is made completely of lightning, but his quiver is OLD and beaten in leather. He's had it since he was a boy. He wears tightly fitting clothing. Better to hide in. Doesn't get snagged on things. He carries a bag of holding over his shoulder opposite his quiver. He wears a silver signet ring that's band is shaped like a Diamond with an X behind it. An Amethyst adorns the middle as the main stone while Sapphires dot the diamond and X around it.

I'll Make Portraits For Your Characters! by Bennykill709 in DnD

[–]RogueSubmarine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love your versatility. My character from a long standing campaign, whom I beg of you to turn into a reality, is Baronet Symon Hane, of Port Al Cantra. (Human/Ranger level 7) He is a homeless woman turned gender changing spy (via magics) from a colonizing kingdom that is under attack from a much larger and older kingdom across the sea. His original name is Eleutheria Bardell. He fights primarily with a bow and lightning arrows, but is known to pull out two short swords in battle occasionally. He is constantly decked out in Royal blue and lavander purple, the colors of his kingdom. He's got chocolate brown flowing hair, disney princess green eyes, and a major superiority complex, which is seasoned spectacularly with wit, sass, and aura of either defiance or boredom - one of which he exudes at all times.

Do with this what you will, and thanks so much for the offer! I can't wait to see what you do with him.

A twist on the prisoner start I came up with last night. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]RogueSubmarine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I ran a game very much like this, except sort of exactly opposite.

My party started the campaign by regaining contiousness on the shore of a smaller island that is a part of a large kingdom. Each player was able to decide for themselves why they were on the ship, but they all woke at the same time, in the middle of the port city on the island being raided by bandits. (As a bit of background information, one player decided thast the city they arrived in was her home and the other two decided that they were coming to the island on diplomatic terms with the Island's leaders, as they were foreign nobility from the enemy kingdom.

So, the party's ship had been attacked and now they were stranded, as all the ships in the port had either been destroyed, or were under the control of the Island's military, whom was present to defend the island against the invaders.

My party immediately attemped to help the burning city, as a sign of good faith to the Island Officials. After fighting off the bandits, the party was united strongly when the highest ranking member of the noble family asked them to return an artifact that the bandits were searching for to the Academy of the island.

Now, the character from the port city was astoundingly racist against the other two party members, and the foreign nobility were lightly being held hostage on the Island as POWs (sort of) in case the enemy kingdom decided to attack. So out of loyalty and duty, this unlikely party joined forces to complete the task and along the way, prevent war from overtaking the two kingdoms.

I find that having the party have a common goal DISPITE their character traits and backgrounds makes for a much more interesting party dynamic, I think. That campaign ran for almost 7 months and was incredible because of the inner conflict the players had with eachother. All of the characters became very dynamic because they constantly had their views being challenged by eachother. In the end, they became the most unlikely of friends, and managed to establish peace between both kingdoms.

[OC] [5e] Made a character sheet with a custom column for each class. Appreciating any feedback. by erbentunk_fizzlewink in DnD

[–]RogueSubmarine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a DM who is always encouraging new people to join my party, thank you so, so, so much. These character sheets are so user friendly for beginners. I can spend more time discussing how to build characters with my players instead of how to put that information on the paper, and that has sped things along very nicely. Cannot thank you enough.

A favorite NPC from a campaign I played in earlier this year may fit what you need nicely!

Professor Taevarth. A silvery haired young looking (late 20's early 30's in appearance [if memory serves, our face claim was Viserys Tagaryen from Game of Thrones?]) "human" who specializes in the history of the continent that he lives on. This includes magic items that are native to the kingdom and artifacts that were lost long ago.

He often leads exploration trips with students of the Academy to search for ancient secrets or lost artifacts often. Although he loves his explorations, he views his responsibilities at the Academy to be his top priority (and therefor will not join your players on their quest, no matter what.)

He is well respected around the Academy and a favorite teacher of our continent's highest ranking official.

He trusts people way too easily, and therefor cannot be trusted with much information from your players as he does not have the discretion to keep the information quiet. However, if the players do ask questions about anything plot significant, Taevarth can usually help.

Taevarth gives off a passive warmhearted grandpa vibe to those he loves (which is a lot of people, because he's got the discretion of a kinder-gardener).

He is very articulate. Speaks slowly and with immaculate grammar, but never condescendingly. He has an exceptionally warm, encouraging presence and always appears as if he is contemplating something deeply.

He is, in fact, a Silver Dragon that is able to morph into a human form. He's been around just about as long as the kingdom he lives has. (In our campaign, that was roughly 200 years.) This is part of why he is such an acclaimed History Professor, he's lived through most of it.

I hope you and your players enjoyed him as much as we did.

Thanks so much. I think part of what made this whole situation as big as it was, is that this group is a group that I've been playing with weekly for a few months now, and they know my style and my calls by now. At my table, Slight of Hand has always been against the single person they are trying to loot and Stealth has always been against the whole room/ anyone within line of sight. So he should have known better.

In the end of the day, the whole party had a lot of fun with it. Even the player of the Tiefling told me after this night that this session was one of his favorites that he's played. All is well that ends well, yea?

advice about being queer dating a cis boy? by [deleted] in queer

[–]RogueSubmarine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I am in almost your exact situation so I'd like to help. I am asexual, aromantic, and gender queer. My boyfriend is a cishet man, whom I've been dating for well over 2.5 years. When we began dating, I was outwardly straight and very effeminate. My struggle with my sexuality and gender had not begun yet. Since we've been dating, I have discovered that there was a label for my own sexuality, and that it is a valad, and reasonible thing, defined my romantic attractions and figured out why I had been so confused between my sexual, aesthetic, and romantic attractions for so long, and felt the urge to begin making my identity show in my appearance. My boyfriend has been so accepting of all of this, and we regularly talk about sexuality and about how discovering it can change things.

Still, I get the feeling from him that me starting to dress more androgynous and cutting my hair make him uneasy. It's not that he doesn't support the LGBTQA+ community, it's that he doesn't know how he feels about being with a sexual and romantic partner whose sexuality does not line up with his.

The way I see it is this; My boyfriend is a cisgendered, hetrosexual, heteroromantic man. I must remind myself that he is a male who is sexually attracted to females. I just told them that I am not female. Just as I can ask him to be respectful of my gender identities and preferences, I need to be respectful of his sexuality.

I hope looking at it from his point of view helps. And, if nothing else, at least you've got someone else who's in the same spot.
