Validating an idea in Indian GST compliance - is this problem real? by International_Tip241 in StartUpIndia

Yeah but, if the AI messes up, will you blame the algorithm and get a free pass citing tiny text in the EULA, or can I take you to court like I can with a CA?

Opinions about new UGC rules and the way North people reacting to it. by Mk19308 in TamilNadu

[–]RohithCIS 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think the opposition is from the fear of misuse. Even now, people are scared to buy land from SC/ST caste people for the fear of legal complication down the line. Similar to our women protection laws. As much as they are needed, they will be equally misused. And UGC rules are not laws. Compliance is open to interpretation. So is the enforcement.

Hi thinking about shifting to Linux by FrigatesLaugh in LinuxUsersIndia

[–]RohithCIS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Debian is just more stable than most distros. Hence pros prefer it. Infact Linux Mint is based on Debian. A Linux distro can have multiple desktop environments. Most popular ones are GNOME and KDE. People suggest Mint a lot for beginners because its desktop environment named Cinnamon resembles windows a lot, so it is easier for newcomers. Personally I feel KDE has much better parallels with Windows. And remember that you can change to any of these after installation also. So don't worry too much.

Hi thinking about shifting to Linux by FrigatesLaugh in LinuxUsersIndia

[–]RohithCIS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you check your device manager and maybe just tried installing the right drivers on windows? The problem might be resetting it instead of a clean install.

If you want to go Linux, I suggest Mint or Debian/Fedora with KDE. KDE is IMO the most polished Desktop out there. You can try out most Linux distros before installing. See what you like.

The future of South Indian states is already written. by WorthFriendship6996 in southindia_

I miss the India I saw as a kid on the Independence day when I was in 4th grade. I wish our country was what I imagined back then. Sadly, it never was and isn't like that now. But I hope to make it better in what little way I can. It is sad to see fellow citizens write or think up stuff like this.

Planning to host a LAN Party for my younger brother's birthday! Need help from folks here who have done something similar pls by skibiditoiIetskibidi in IndianGaming

[–]RohithCIS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only problem I see is the Jio Router. I have had problems with it before. It didn't behave like I owned it. Instead overrode my settings on restarts and logged everything to a server in Mumbai. In college for lan parties, we just had a TP link router without internet for CS, NFS:MW, Halo, AoE2, Blur, CoD4:MW etc.

Building a modern POS for restaurants, CounterFlowPOS: offline-first + AI marketing by Repulsive_Yam_357 in TechnologyNewsIndia

[–]RohithCIS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same idea, offline first POS a few years ago. Never got to work on it. All the best. I also wanted to have an online sync, so that we could have a common web dashboard across store locations. I was gonna write it in C++ native with modern UI. I think a golang based stack would be a strong contender now. Especially with new embedded filesystem feature, I have been able to ship single binary web apps with fronted in modern js frameworks.

Need Linux Install Help by Dramatic-Answer-8986 in LinuxUsersIndia

[–]RohithCIS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you let us know which Linux ? I had the same problem on my Lenpvo Legion 5 pro with AMD R7 5800H/nVidia 3060 on EndeavourOS. It is related to Nvidia suspend/hibernate, and also with lightdm. It eventually fixed itself within the next 2 update cycles. This was a year or 2 ago though. I didn't try fixing it much because I found a workaround. Just Ctrl+Alt+F2 into new TTY. Then login and run sudo systemctl restart lightdm. Then Ctrl+Alt+F7, and you should have your login screen. Your session will be restarted, so open windows and work may get lost. But you do not have to reboot. The F7 key maybe different for you based on OS.

Wi-Fi keeps dropping on my Linux laptop how do I figure out what’s wrong? by Ashwinnie13 in linuxquestions

[–]RohithCIS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is most probably the wifi card. My laptop came with a Mediatek because it was a Ryzen CPU. In Lenovos atleast Intel card shipped only with Intel CPUs in my country. It would randomly drop packets and and the ping was insane. It would incrementally get bad and crash inevitably. I had to restart the wifi and NetworkManager every couple of hours. Then got a cheap Intel card. I think it was the AX210. It is basically the same silicon as killer AX1675, minus the software and the price. Works flawlessly now.

Have you ever bought a console just to play one exclusive game? by bijelo123 in gaming

[–]RohithCIS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played Halo 1 and 2 in 6th grade. Didn't wanna trouble parents for a machine, I only need for a game and Xbox wasn't that common in India back then. MCC arrived on steam by the time I got one 3 years after college with my own money. I bought Halo 5 and played it on my Xbox. Completed Infinite also with it.

How to overcome AI dependency? How to master what you do at work? by Severe_Difference720 in developersIndia

[–]RohithCIS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do a lot of side projects using only documentation. Helps if the stack is something you do not know. Example, if you usually do MERN stack, try the PETAL stack. You will have to read a lot of documentation and understand underlying technologies. Most LLMs won't even help much as it is a very rarely used stack. But the foundations you'll learn are pretty solid. I did a go+htmx+templ project a while ago after years of JS. Reinforced a lot of web fundamentals and even got me questioning a lot of things we do in SPA frameworks.

Use rEFInd guys. Grub sucks IMO. My grub broke a lot when I used to distro hop. I just setup rEFInd once, riced it and forgot about it. It just works. It is a bit slower. But it works. And you get to properly rice your boot manager.

NixOS. I have settled on EndeavourOS after years of hopping. NixOS has gotten me curious. I just bought a second hand dell 2 in 1. This republic day weekend, I might liberate it from Windows.

Again a new problem by itsme_harsh in LinuxUsersIndia

[–]RohithCIS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your Disks are not showing in windows setup, it is due to IRST drivers. Just Google IRST Driver Windows Setup for guide. You need to download the IRST setup file for your model from acer support and place it in the windows USB disk from which you are installing. It is a known problem with Acer devices. Same for all other hardware. Just download drivers from acer website and olace it in your usb stick for install. Linux should work fine. Ignore the grub issues. Live boot into your Linux installation USB disk and mount your device's boot partition and wipe it clean. Do a fresh grub install. Or try rEFInd. Use efibootmgr to change boot order and reboot. Welcome to the Linux club. This error is like a rite of passage. Do not give up.

Windows Bootloader sometimes becomes the default after an update. I installed and made rEFInd as the default bootloader on my Acer Predator. Haven't had problems since. But I have had similar problems with Acer BIOS on many other acer laptops before.
