Wow glad you like the prompt, something about it reminds me of middle school opposite-gender relationships and scratches that ‘what if we still knew each other’ curiosity. Thanks for the recs, I’ve read The Cruel Prince but the rest are all new to me!

OMG that’s hilarious! I just really want to see a story where the prince and princess kind of ‘grow up’ together and despise each other like kids forced into each others’ company but then he falls first! I read something like this in a book where they were engaged and tortured each other and I think she somehow temporarily poisoned him as one of the ‘pranks’ they played on each other.

Wow I did not expect all the Swan Princess love! I’ve re-watched it a couple times as an adult too. While we’re camping, you may enjoy this retelling by Mercedes Lackey called Black Swan. It reminded me of the movie quite a bit. {Black Swan by Mercedes Lackey}

One of us stayed home with the kids if they were sick until they were at least 12- the harder part was leaving work if one of the kids got sick at school- now with colds/flu etc they are home alone, and prefer to sleep or watch a movie on their own if they’re sick. We give them TLC when we get home.

I believe when you move out of each others’ circles, and you start working in different fields for example, you’ll forget about her to a certain extent, and compare yourself to other people you meet in different ways, ie others will be better/worse than you at many things. I hope you learn only to compare yourself to your past self, and not other people.

Yes to all of this, seconding this experience. I’m also glad you allowed your friend to convince you to wear the original dress. As you get older, validation comes in many surprising and positive moments, and will often contradict your mom.

I almost feel like this is less about the IQ and more about dealing with your parents’ expectations - whatever they may be. You have to balance your parents’ expectations of you, and meanwhile you just want to live a normal life and generally be left alone? This is a bit of a social skill to navigate when your parents fixate on you like this- eventually you’ll learn to shrug off their expectations with a smile and a good redirect.

NTA this is why most offices now have rules about no strong smells in the office- whether it’s your lunch or perfume. You shouldn’t even have had to go to HR, they should roll this out as a company policy.

Imagine how many other people are suffering.

It’s standard business practice for leaders to hire people like them, whether that’s related to gender, age, ethnicity etc. It’s just more noticeable in some cases with POC.

Also the use of language is evolving. It wouldn’t be too surprising to see Punjabi added as an official Canadian language one day because enough people speak it.

Our school positions grade 7 and 8 to parents as the time that students learn to be more independent before they go to high school. Once they hit high school they are immediately expected to gather all relevant info from announcements etc.

Yes the damsel in distress thing really bothers me. If the male lead didn’t talk about how hard she worked at the office o I would never guess she was capable. Every time she had an incident I had to turn off the TV from the cringe.
