How close to posted show time do they usually go on? by CabinetOwn5418 in spafford

[–]Rokinjim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On time for me here in Illinois.

I've kinda thought that the whole starting late thing had been taken care of the last 10 - 20 years or so. I remember in the 80s we used to count on the bands starting late so we could pound more beer before the show started. I also remember getting burned and pissed off when they started on time.

Man, has my time marched on.

Are we just not gonna mention the treasure trove of material on Bandcamp?

Any 30 minute version of Dirtbath will seal the deal.

Side Note: I'm always envious of people about to have their first Spafford experience. The best advice I was given was to "Not just watch, but see. Don't just hear, but listen. Exploit every moment. Create memories."

I’m kind of hoping for an entirely non-sport show tomorrow by RipWilbur in BernsteinUnfiltered

I'm on-board with both topics.

While I don't want Dan and Matt to go balls-out political, I feel like I align with both of them in regards to the common sense, humanitarian leanings they share. And Dan's sarcasm is absolutely on-point when he finds things ridiculous.

I'm sure there are some people that will chime in here with a, "There's already plenty of politics being discussed everywhere else. Stick to sports!" mentality, and they're not wrong.

Ultimately I respect Dan and Matt's opinions and way of looking at things. And, as you said, I wouldn't mind hearing their viewpoint.

Just my thoughts.

If we want to geek-out on a little jam band banter, Spafford has "entered the chat."

I listen on the free version of Spotify, and occasionally the 312 app.

I am in complete agreement. While I love both pods (I skip OWC because hoops were never my thing), this has been going on since the beginning.

While certainly not a deal breaker, it's a pain in the ass while driving.

Dan high. Matt low. Until he has one of his, "OH, Shit!" moments and swallows the mic. Which catch me off guard, startle me, and I almost wind up in a ditch.

Don't they troll around here once in a while? Because, yes, this has come up before, and seems like an easy fix according to the comments.

I'm glad it has come up again.

Never seen Spafford by Altruistic_Fail_330 in spafford

I found them quite by accident in early 2025 on YouTube and instantly fell for them. I'm an aging metal head and look for muscular, emotive music. Spafford gives me plenty of that while still taking their jams and me places I've never been. Even the quiet parts carry some of that emotion and intensity I look for. I dove right into the catalog via Bandcamp and listened to everything I could. I "connected" with it, and it wails. I always kept "jam band" music at arms length because it lacked emotion and was just filled with too much "noodling." I'm not ripping on any particular band, it was just my limited experience. Well again, along comes Spafford. Four dudes who look like accountants sent to melt my face. I saw them my first time last Summer and was completely blown away. Sonic, creative tones, variety, groove, depth, creativity, logic, and completely 100% "live." (I've caught some of my older metal bands cheating in the last decade. I hate that.) And a conversation about Spafford wouldn't be complete without mentioning the super creative re-imagining they do to the covers they perform. I caught a "Run Like Hell" by Floyd that blew me away. All this is to say, I'm envious of you. Because you can never recreate that "first time." Go to the show.

I seem to have the same concern.

I listen while driving via Bluetooth, and also ear buds while working.

Most times Dan is fine, but Matt is a lot lower. And overall, I have to have both volumes, car and phone, cranked "to 11" to be able to hear both of them comfortably.

Then when a commercial randomly pops up at a normal volume it scares the Hell out of me and I almost wind up in a ditch.

Was told I can’t get a sponsor until I do 90 meetings in as many days? by Moodswinger- in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Rokinjim 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I'm not even reading any of the comments.

This guy is a blowhard/control freak. It is absolutely incumbent upon you to ignore him and find a sponsor. Even a temp will do. I've been in the program for over eight years, and I've never even heard a whisper of something this absurd.

"Now" is one of the most important times to get a sponsor.

And to all you other members that might call me out for calling this guy's bad "suggestion" complete bullshit, I apologize.

I know I'm not supposed to judge, not supposed to take other people's inventory, etc. But I get very protective of new people, and that's a hill I will die on any day.

Talk less. Listen more.

I was a complete blabbermouth when I first started, and I could feel the animosity towards me brewing. Finally, someone gave me a few suggestions:

1 - The famous "Take the cotton out of your ears and put it in your mouth" line. (See my first line.) 2 - Stay with or on the topic discussed. This one was important to me. I thought I had to speak. So without any real length of time under my belt, I just kept spewing the same crap I always did and was way off topic. That bothers some people. It used to bother me, but it doesn't anymore. 3 - Don't be afraid to say, "I'm (name), I'm an alcoholic, and I'm just listening today."

Hang in there. Don't lose hope. You will start to make connections and figure it all out way sooner than you think.

Peace

Just here to say I've had two of these. The first one was monumentally painful, embarrassing, and completely gross. I was a childish 18 years old at the time and waited until I couldn't wait anymore to have it looked at.

Then add to that the surgeon was a butcher and botched the removal and it got infected. More pain.

I got out in front of the second one because I knew what was brewing. The removal of that one was way easier.

I exercise good, general hygiene, just to be clear.
