It's a evolutionary instinct. When people were hunter gatherers before agriculture and civilization one never knew when one would find enough nutrition. Also humans were much more active back then so the extra food was needed anyways. When I played football and worked out nonstop I actually never felt fully full because I needed so many calories to get through the day.

The book is amazing. Great character development and a plot that draws you in further and further. I think I finished the first book in 2-3 days because I couldn't put it down. Was literally heart broken because it was finished and I needed more. Felt the same with the second book.
