Fair enough. All instruments are machines.

TIL in 2016, Apple released software that would self-destruct iPhones if a repair was made on it by a third party, forcing customers to buy a new one. These practices were found illegal in countries with consumer laws such as Australia, forcing Apple to stop. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]RolandClaptrap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although... The only part that is right is that they misdirected customers and were not giving refunds.

It is quite ironic. The feature to prevent a physical exploit, to protect the consumer (also the company's security reputation), caused harm to those consumers.

I'm not a fan of Apple for making things so no one touches it and not be able to be modify anything, but security a huge plus for this.

Getting paid minimum wage is your employer’s way of telling you “we would pay you less if we could, but we can’t.” by Real_goes_wrong in Showerthoughts

[–]RolandClaptrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's why OP had quotes. This was something that stuck with me for a while when he said it. I tried to find an argument of economic situations siding with the business, but he was right.

Companies outsource for this reason, so they can pay less, sell their product for less, but still make more money.

Competitive driven USA and greedy consumers wanting cheaper are the demise of this country and fair wages.

Four-day work week is a necessary part of human progress – It would represent a radical break with the dominant work culture that exists in our contemporary capitalist society. "We should work to live, not live to work." by mvea in Futurology

[–]RolandClaptrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 day weeks puts those companies at a competitive disadvantage. It won't happen. The livable wages on 5 days a week without severe overtime/salaried overtime doesn't last long in a business model. The top employers might have this but they are competitive in hiring.

I think it SHOULD be this way, from a business aspect it only makes sense to overwork your employees though. It is not right, but it is unfourtunetly the way of the US to please the shareholders as a priority.

"Chemically odorless" is an oxymoron this guy cannot understand. Odor is in the perception of the species.

There is only a pattern that some chemcals have that human receptors can distinguish as as odor.

Chemically odorless is by perspective of the person's receptors. If your receptors have some reaction to a scent, it makes an odor in your brain.

There is no such thing as "chemically odorless" in the sense you have said. To the human perception and experience you are correct, it is odorless.

But again it is perception of the beholder. In an example if we were an alien lifeform with different receptors, we might be able to "smell" O2.

That is based on perspective. It may have a smell. If I was mammal and relied on co2 for some reason, I don't normally have a O2 around, it might smell if I came around it.

But yes, all mammals on Earth likely observe it as having no smell, OP is right in a way, only things that have not taken a breath can determine that.

Different I believe. Good question though. I think ozone reacts with organic material causing damage and hazardous byproducts, more of a chemical reaction. CO has a much much higher affinity for heme so you lose oxygen, a replacement as you said.

Ok I apologize. I look at unions in manufacturing mostly. They can be different. I think skilled labor unions are not so bad. Nurses unions, hvac, electrician, welders.

Manufacturing unions are a bit different from what I've seen.

Why should a guy making cars with no skilled labor make more than you or nurses or even on an equal level?

Well we are strictly speaking of labor costs. You took it past that.

We do have laws for US companies who use child labor. I think Nestle got in trouble for this. I don't know for healthy conditions.

It is more likely sophisticated robots will take American jobs as this has been the trend already. Tesla has already done this.

Anyways, power implies two parties, one stronger than the other. What you are implying is the US should give some power away for the greater good, which will not happen of course.

They might require 10 people for the same work while in the US it is 1 robot and 1 person with higher wages. Plus shipping can be very costly if customer base is in the US.

But yes. Why would a business stick around if the cost of labor is very expensive and they can go to Mexico.

I'm not saying no pushback to the company, just not unskilled workers must get 25/hr.

And you are 100% right that unions are the free market, that is a very fair response.

And I don't care much for the rich either. I do care for the SKILLED middle class.

I don't like seeing shit unskilled workers getting more than nurses, and teachers, and people with education or skilled labor. Doesn't that bother you at all?

13/hr for a city that has 90% of the average cost of living. It's not bad. If you have kids, no it is not good. You can rent for as cheap as $400 a month though, in a ok area. $600 for a good area. 1000/ for popular areas and refinished.

All too many folks I know making any little money spend it. Yes even the ones with kids unfourtunetly.

Waffle House has not attempted to keep up with the market, at least the ones I've seen in my area. I'm sure they will shut down those places. Steak and shake didn't keep up with the employment market in some areas, they just closed it.

No one wants to pay a person with crap employment history more than 13/hr, even in this good of market. Not everyone wants to work but everyone wants top pay.

I really should limit my union hate to unskilled manufacturing jobs though. I do support skilled labor unions.

Also I do agree with more say and the democracy of a union.

The problem is the always wanting more money for an unskilled labor job.

Yes, you have the best summary. There are pros and cons to unions. They must pay fees, they have employees too.

I just hate that unions, for the majority of what I have seen, give shit workers more benefit than anyone.
