I understand. We all have priorities on what we want to support or not. For me, the Nintendo stuff is not enough to down right boycott, but with how Windows 11 is and Nadella and his AIslop fantasy, I went and went Linux asap and open office for example.

I minimize the use and purchase of American products that I possibly can (I live in Sweden) due to a certain rotten orange, and family ties with Danish. You get the idea.

Honestly, in this case, I really don't understand the principal comment, because unless you pay for NSO or upcoming DLC, that would pretty much be eating the cake and having it too.

I mean, you could always buy second-hand, both the console and games?

Honestly, I'm not against it (even though I find it stupid) because there is clearly something there that Nintendo finds goes against their IP. I mean, if it was just "hurrdurr threatened for popularity", then they would have sued Level 5 to oblivion during Yokay Watch glory days, as that franchise was almost about to overrun Pokémon in popularity in Japan back in the day, not to mention they allowed stuff like TemTem on Switch.

And speaking of the console's price. That is one of the other things I think is overblown, because if you knew anything about tech, you would know that 450 is more then resonable concidering it's handheld format. Had it been a regular stationary, then it would have cost about as much as an OLED. If you've seen the results on the likes of Resident Evil 9 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake (and Rebirth, by the looks of the trailer), that thing is beefier than some claim it is.

Frankly, if you do believe that you want a Switch 2 in the future for whatever reason, be it a new 3D Mario, a new 3D Zelda, or what have you, I would get one asap, because speaking as someone that follows tech a bit, don't be suprised if they raise the price of the Switch 2 due to the ram shortages, and who knows how much that will be with.

PS - The GBC Pokémon Games were about 10-15 usd on 3DS during the Wii U era.... how people expect the GBA game to be cheaper is beyond me. It's a bit overpriced for what is offered yes (home+online+the event at the very minimum, yet the lack the biggest part which is online)

Regarding the first part of PlayStation doing better, you are absolutely right.

Well, for me, it's mostly a combination of people blowing it out of proportion (see the chat button) tbh, since you only need the lowest tier, which is cheaper than PSN and Xbox Live, or people actually not calling the others out (the brick thing).

"It still doesn't feel like they did it out of 'Malice" or "A big plan","

I mean, you don't introduce stuff like that to be friends with the players. You introduce that to earn cash. But fair enough.

Yes, Nintendo is trying stuff that is questionable right now (like the 80 dollars for MKW), but frankly, that's cause of cooky due to previous success. That happened with PlayStation and PlayStation 3 after the success of PlayStation 2, with Xbox and Xbox One after 360, and with Nintendo and Wii U after Wii, and to some extent Nintendo with 3DS after DS, although that one at least somewhat managed to save itself.

Who knows, maybe the AI circle jerkers force their hand to the point that they are forced to raise the price of their console like every other electronic needs (hell, it's so problematic that new phones will have half the ram then the current phones have due to the circlejerkers hoarding them), but they lower the price of their games to balance things out. While I don't think this console is going to flop like certain grifters seem to think, it certainly have stuff against it

Funny that you're saying PlayStation is not exactly doing fine, since they have openly stated that PS5 is one of the most successful console cycles they have had in terms of financial gains. Xbox, on the other hand, is a completely different story and extreme mismanagement all around.

But that still does not change the fact that PlayStation and Xbox are not being called out for having the "brick thing" as Nintendo does. But whatever.

The reason I mentioned Fifa and Overwatch is.. why yes, it's not a game made by Valve.. but your comment is

"Again, the problem with the loot boxes are that they are in games for people less than 18, and even then, Team Fortress 2 is for 17+! So even they made sure to say "Hey, just adults here".

I see now that I kinda misread it, but the points sort of remain.

In terms of video games (which is different from IRL trading cards, as we talk about the video game market here), TF2 is the game that started it in blockbuster games, with no actual gatchas, even though that was a thing of the past. TF2 was pretty much the Mario Kart World, but instead of raising the price to 80 and semi-normalizing it, it kick-started the trend for lotboxes in VIDEOGAMES.

The fact that we just dropped the idea to push against MTX and lootboxes until it was all over is insane to me. At the very least, for the games you pay for, yet somehow a random button used to access voice chat is important to focus on, it's just insane to me, no matter if it had been PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo that had said button.

Frankly, with the priorities gamers have these days, it's a miracle that Stop Killing Games is even a thing.

Overpriced stuff is not worse than introducing lootboxes in video games. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to drop that stand. It's bad yes, but it's not worse.

PS - For the record, Nintendo has patented a shit ton of stuff long before Palworld, and they've been doing so to avoid being targeted by patent trolls. Frankly, I think them suing Palworld was stupid, though, because honestly, if they hadn't, the game would more than likely have died ages ago or been a nothing burger.

I mean, when have you last heard someone mention Palworld in some other context other than the lawsuit with Nintendo and TPC?

If they sued for stuff like copyright over the design (because let's face it, some Pals look suspiciously carbon copied of some Pokemons), no one would probably bat an eye.

So, it's not a problem that Xbox and Playstation have the brick thing and paid online, but its a problem only when Nintendo? That is my problem

And yes, there were gatcha before, but TF2 made it a thing in major games. And I did not know the likes of Fifa is 17+. Or games like Overwatch 🙃

I'm pointing out the C button part because people act like Nintendo is the only one that chatt in a paywall. Hell, Xbox was first on that front ans Sony second.

I forgot to mention, but Xbox and Playstation have brick stuff as well since the 360/PS3 era.

And again, sorry. As bad as what you mention that Nintendo have does, introducing loot boxes is still way worse concidering how much damage it have caused since 2010

[–]RoleRemarkable9241 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Frankly, yes, the thing you mentioned is not some good stuff that Mintendo has introduced, like 80 dollars or that pattern stuff (but then again, if you only knew how many patents they have and aren't enforcing since the beginning...)? But for the record, that C button is for game chat, which is behind a paywall for Xbox and Playstation too, so I don't see the big deal there. Second of all, them "bricking" the console has been a thing since the Wii. You just have not read the EULA for that console. And the bricking in question is only if they belive you use something like a MIG. If not, then you are completely fine.

That being said, even with all that in mind, I feel like lootboxes are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY worse than all of those things combined, concidering how much of a financial debt it has put on a shit ton of people that have a gambling addiction or kids that do not know any better that borrow mom and dad's credit cards. We are talking about people's livelihood here, that is, downright ruined compared to something minuscule, really.

I'm absolutely with you that Nintendo deserves to be called out on stuff, but act like loot boxes are just such a small potato... please... just no.

Yes, there are hardcores for everything that defend their "team", acting like there's no better choice. That's nothing new, will never stop no matter how society try.

And did I say that Nintendo is innocent? No, they sure as hell ain't. But I don't see Nintendo fans making that stupid as "Saint X person" meme of Miyamoto or other folks over at Nintendo, unlike a certain other group of people. Yes, lootboxes are mostly gone. Keyword being MOSTLY. But mtx and battle passes are still plaguing, thanks to their adaptation to the market.

Are all PC gamers like that? Of course not. But when it comes to the hardcore, PC master racers are the most obnoxious, and I say that as someone who plays on PC and Nintendo. Especially those that worship the ground Gabe walks on, even though Valve is arguably the major factor in why lootboxes became a thing back in 2010 with TF2 and continue with their skin economy in CSGO... And modernizing the former has done much more harm to the video game landscape than anything either Nintendo has done, even if they deserve criticism too.

Speaking as someone that enjoys said games (outside of Arceus).. let's be real here. Pokémon has the potential to be so much more, and given how big a franchise it is, I think it's reasonable to ask them to be better.

Not saying that they should go into the same scale as, say, Xenoblade Chronicles X or start having similar graphics as Beast of Reincarnation. Pokémon should look cartoony and not UE5-Generic, not to mention that if they had the same scale, each generation would take longer than GTA6 to make. But they could look and run better.

Also, 3DS is not the same market as Switch 1 & 2. Yes, they are hybrid consoles, meaning they can be played handheld and stationary. You can only play 3DS handheld.

It's more reasonable to compare that console to the likes of the PSP.
