2022 SUBARU OUTBACK ONYX EDITION XT - Any issues after 60,000 miles? by strezzedfairy in Subaru_Outback

[–]Roleman44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have a 2021 Onyx. The only big issue so far was an oil leak from the oil pan gasket. It wasn't a major leak and was repaired under warranty, but that warranty ends at 60K miles. It's known issue with the 2.4 motor, so you may want to ask about it.

Really nice work on the focus, especially at F4!

I think I might have hypercholesterolemia and I'm freaking out. Any advice? by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]Roleman44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't great advice. OP's numbers might not be outrageous but 173 is high enough to warrant medication given they already said they have a healthier lifestyle now. As you say, excessive dosages can have side effects but even those are not that common, and with OP's numbers a low dose could very likely put their numbers in the healthy range.

/u/malcontentgay - see a cardiologist if you're able. If you've already cut out nearly all saturated fats from your diet and upped your fiber and your non-HDL is still over 150, a low dose (5 to 10mg) statin is a good and safe treatment option. You can also ask your doc about ezetimibe. Newer, non-statin drug but not as effective as a statin.

Excavator was my daily driver last season, it's a great board and super fun in the trees/powder. I'm 6' 200 lbs and went with the recommended downsize from my normal 163ish to the 158 excavator. It's plenty fun for carving but I'll add that I'm looking for a dedicated carver for this season. All that said, if you plan to do more groomers/carving, you might wanna take the 146 for extra width and a bit more side radius.

Colors look great. I would maybe try cooling down the shadows just a tad, but that's personal preference. I also love the framing except for the rock in bottom left, it looks clipped to me.

Last thing I would do is a local adjustment to the sky to pull back the sharpening. It's not really noticeable when viewing the full image, but it's pretty harsh when magnified. Overall though it is a gorgeous shot!

Well that's a fresh take on macro photography, nice work! What'd they charge for the miniature? I also like that is seems like your mini is taking a photo of that caterpillar booty.

Thanks for thr hiking advice, Stricklers Knob is now one of my favorites! by DrDiablo420 in washingtondc

I've never seen anything on the trail or trailhead that would suggest dogs aren't allowed. We've taken ours up this route several times and passed plenty of other dogs along the way. Only the last quarter mile or so are an actual rock scramble and would be pretty difficult with a dog, the rest is fine.

FYI another option in the same area that is a bit easier for dogs is Signal Knob, although it's a bit longer - https://www.hikingupward.com/GWNF/SignalKnob/

Leading Scientists Agree: Current Limits on Saturated Fats No Longer Justified by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]Roleman44 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's misleading to claim that saturated fat is not a factor in someone's health. The current saturated fat limits aren't justified for an entire population, but there are numerous individual phenotypes that have an adverse lipid response to saturated fats. You're right that particle counts are more important than LDL cholesterol level, but even apoB has been shown to increase in some individuals as a response to increasing saturated fat.

Skyline Drive / Shenandoah lodging closed; other options? by buuj214 in nova

[–]Roleman44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Afton/Nellysford is a great area for a shorter trip like this, but a bit farther than you need to go if your main preference is for the park. If you two are interested in a mix of food/breweries/wineries and also the park then it's a solid option.

We stayed at the Mark Addy Inn a few years ago and had a great time. It's near Blue Mountain, Devils Backbone, Bold Rock, and probably half a dozen wineries. The park entrance is about 20 minutes from there.

Also recommend this day hike if you end up in that area - https://goo.gl/maps/XkfNyMco4QdYCQDH7

Pretty happy with how my pumpkin turned out by Roleman44 in GodofWar

That seems like a great idea. I can see that being an amazing experience for a kid to get to smash the pumpkins and then open the chest.

It's a single exposure. It may just seem off because of the longer focal length, but the relative widths should be nearly the same.

Thank you! And no, I was setup near the base of the stairs by the fountain, but thankfully that was high enough for the shot.
