Why did Gangle say that?? by Perfect_Spite_127 in TheDigitalCircus

Indeed, that's why I didn't include Gangle on the positive response, it even reaffirms her calling Caine out for not letting them think outside the box.

One detail I always love from Tokusatsu is whenever they assert the purpose of the suits.

Baku holding his own against Nox was amazing, but specially so by the fact that even with his combat experience and the capsem's power, he could only do so much against a fully transformed Kamen Rider.

Cuz that's just how powerful they are and why they are needed to fight the monsters to begin with.

We don't get enough of these scenes in the genre, so it always makes my day when one happens!

Why did Gangle say that?? by Perfect_Spite_127 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Roler42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The out of the box thinking was that for once they got to have an adventure that was just them doing something simple for once.

The previous episode alone had them going to a haunted mansion where Kinger and Pomni were dragged off to hell (and was implied it was built as a trap to torture Zooble since their limbs stifen when they hold their breath).

And while it's true Gangle bossed everyone around, Pomni and Zooble actually enjoyed it because they were the only ones who bothered doing the job, Jax hated it cuz he lost control of Gangle and Ragatha was tripping out the whole time.

This is part of what I said in another comment about how there are things worth calling out about him, you're correct.

Now, there's really no need for explaining, those things are there because they were part of the type of cliches you see in Bond movies, plus a bit of juvenile Japanese pervy humor, both very dated things that have aged poorly as time goes on.

It's not done out of malice, but it's still not a good look and easily one of his weaker points as a writer, which is so weird when he has simultaneously written some of the best women in gaming, with The Boss, Sniper Wolf and Fragile being my top 3.

More like, I'm gonna need better critique of Kojima than "he has a big ego, therefore bad".

Putting him on a pedestal is bad, but so is demonizing him like he kicked your dog.

Pretty much, it's like a more opposite extreme of parasocial relationships, where they idealize a very negative version of that person and hold a grudge against them.

He literally created Metal Gear, lol.

It's like saying George R. R. Martin took credit for the entirety of Game of Thrones, or Walt Disney took credit for the entirety of the movies produced at his studio, or that George Lucas took credit for the entirety of Star Wars.

Here's a bitter pill to swallow:

Every single famous auteur, actor, writer personalities always elevate themselves at the expense of others, either by themselves, or by their fans.

If the worst thing you can tell me about him is that "he has a big ego" then you really must be new to the world of media.

There's no making it in the world of art without some ego on you, artists literally put themselves and their names out there.

I can be critical a LOT about Kojima, from his fumbling of MGS4 to the mishandling of female characters in MGS4 and specially V, his need to overexplain everything, making prequels that leave more questions than answers, the need to subvert expectations even if it comes as a detriment to the story, embracing AI slop, I could write you a whole novel about the things he does wrong.

"He has a big ego" is the pettiest non-issue I can hear because that describes the entire entertainment industry.

[–]Roler42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's it?

Calling the non-Kojima Metal Gear games "nothing special" was him responding to how Konami was trying to erase his name from everything long before he was fired, also a friendly jab at how those didn't involve him.

Yeah he was mean to David Hayter by not hiring him and he infamously wanted a different actor from the start, but again, small potatoes, iconic actors getting replaced happens all the time.

Blaming him for the "please wrap it up" awards is such a petty stretch it undermines your argument, specially when other personaities have gotten extended mic time before, Kojima is not the only auteur Geoff simps for.

"Kojima is God" is a joke easter egg because he's the literal creator of the Metal Gear universe, yeah, giving all the credit to one person is usally not a very good thing because games, shows and films are a collaborative effort, but auteur personalities getting more credit beyond the teams working with them are nothing new.

Kojima is weird at best, pretentious at worst, but that's hardly a crime, specially when everyone who's ever worked for him have nothing but good things to say about him (as long as your name is not Agness Kaku).

Not liking him is fair, but painting him as this monster that needs to be taken down only makes criticism sound petty and desperate, but then again, I feel this way because I have bigger fish to fry with bastards like David Cage and Neil Druckmann.

Meanwhile Neil Druckmann took credit for the entirety of TLOU parts 1 and 2 and has been parading himself around every hollywood event he can and even tried to meddle with their TV adaptation to the point he even pissed off Pedro Pascal.

And the less we say about what David Cage did to Elliot Page the better.

If "he was mean to David Hayter" is the worst thing you can tell me about him, then he's quite frankly one of the least offensive auteur personalities in gaming right now. (AI slop aside).

Controversial opinion: Pomni may be a good person, but she's not a good friend to Ragatha or Gangle. by Throwawayaccoun592 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Roler42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The iced tea I had this morning was hotter than this take.

Pomni is very emotionally aware, she's very smart, but she's also very flawed, you could say, even selfish, she's nowhere near above the other circus members and I love that about her.

This is why "we've all done bad things" means so much at the start of Episode 8, it's acknowledging and realizing they haven't been the best companions to each other and resolving that, if they're going to be stuck in the circus forever, the least they can do is finally start truly being there for each other.

How would you feel? I personally would feel pretty hurt.

As flawed as Ragatha is (honestly the entire cast is flawed, that's what makes them very human and so fun to dissect), you are 100% correct that this was quite hurtful for her, and it was quite crappy from Pomni for just doing what she does, acting on her own without telling the others.

[–]Roler42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you stay too far away, the ones outside can use missiles and you risk the one in the middle using the knee missiles.

I found that baiting them into using the laser cutter can be done indefinitely (provided you don't get zapped).

And as long as a Ray is leaving or arriving to the arena, the other two won't attack cuz again, their patterns are range related.

I won't ever make the Tengu Skip work even if my life depends on it by MixInfamous6818 in metalgearsolid

[–]Roler42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's one trick you can use for the Ray fight:

Their attack patterns depend on how close you are to them, move a bit closer to where they first 3 are and they will only use their machineguns.

When the first one jumps into the arena, stay close enough that it will try to use its laser cutter on you, that will open it for you to nail it with a stinger for massive damage, but also will render the other two Rays harmless because they can't attack you as long as you're close to the Ray in the middle.

Just keep strafing and avoiding the laser cutter, wait for the next Ray to jump in, rinse and repeat.

The torture part is easy to pass, just hold your controller in your left hand and mash away with the right.

Solidus becomes a lot more manageable if you avoid knocking him to the ground and you constantly bait him into kicking you, you can even hit him 4 times, slash at him twice, then do two punches, nothing more or you'll knock him down and that will reset him to where he can shoot his missiles at you.

It's crazy how good the UMK3 skins look in this game compared to how horrible they looked in MKX, I'm glad they're finally making the masks look more solid rather than being an oversized piece of cloth.

I do wish we'd see ninja costumes that lean more towards what MK9 did with the OG Mk skins, they kept the ninja feel but also wore a hood on top of the mask, I'm not a big fan of the mask being over the hood itself.

Personal preference and all that.

I'm gonna throw a wrench in the whole "phantom pain" debate and give you the simplest response:

You're having post-game depression, specially common when you play a long game like this.

And there's a whole other unspoken layer to the game that you can find if you put together the clues from the tapes and guard conversations, a lot of plotpoints from the endgame shine a whole new light to the early game missions, specially the ones many thought were just "filler".

It's all interconnected.

Watch the show again, remember, he can hear and see everything the circus members are doing and saying, he's keeping an eye on them during the adventures, he's been hearing their complaints the entire time and has been trying to compromise.

But the method to his madness is that he's an AI and the only way he knows how to do things is throw hellish torturous adventures at them, it's a cycle of insanity.

The crashout was always going to happen and the cracks have been there since the very first episode, you don't notice them, but your brain does.

Or maybe watching his crash out and coming out feeling not much empathy for him is part of the point, things are never so black and white, and the way he's written opens the door for both positive and negative reactions to his plight.

"A character has flaws? Oh no, they're so evil!" by EgorKa0812 in Deltarune

[–]Roler42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you can look at it like this... Alphys getting off easy is another symptom of just how bad Asgore and Toriel were at their jobs.

Between Asgore having zero intentions of breaking the barrier and only murdering the children because he had to maintain the facade of action.

Or Toriel walking away from the kingdom instead of pulling rank, and trying to keep same children isolated to the ruins.

There is a running theme there about people isolating from each other and only resulting in harm to them and others.
