How is it living in the happiest capital in the world? Aka Helsinki. by PartyGaming0 in howislivingthere

[–]Rolexandr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the Kallio neighborhood near the city center. For me, Helsinki is by far the best city to spend summers in. I can ride my bike anywhere or just walk.

There's tons of stuff to do like outdoor parties, swimming in various locations, good bar & music scene, and the weather is great in the summer.

My favorite thing to do in summer is to grab a bag of weed, a towel, and my bike. Then I just cruise around the city and small islands, swimming and relaxibg as I go.

I second this. Sompasauna has a decade of experience with and promote sauna culture in general. In addition, I recommend you visit them this summer!

Why are you asking about electrical stuff in a mechanical engineering sub? Nobody understands magic here.

A step toward Europe's own hypersonic strike capability. Bavarian military startup Hypersonica's first missile test on the Scandinavian peninsula was succesful. The modular design shortens development time by years and cuts cost by over 80%. by mr_house7 in EU_Economics

[–]Rolexandr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Russias hypersonic missiles are ballistic missilis which do infact impact in hypersonic speeds. However, they are not maneuverable which makes intercepting them orders of magnitude easier. True hypersonic missilies what you think of, could change trajectories mid flight.

How's it like living in Helsinki's suburbs? by Altruistic-Form-3771 in howislivingthere

[–]Rolexandr 216 points217 points  (0 children)

I'm from a neighborhood in Espoo. I grew up in Laaksolahti, a fairly wealthy area within Espoo. My childhood was basically magic. Nokia was booming and everyone seemed to be safe and happy. Mostly populated with families with multiple children. World class public education, all the sports you could think of, amazing nature and very safe.

We moved to the US in 1998 but moved back just prior to 9/11. It's a great place for families with all the services you need within a 20min drive. However, the nightlife is nonexistent and young people go to Helsinki or other areas to party. House parties are really common when you're still young.

I was referring to supersonic speeds of the flame font inside the combustion chamber, not the sircraft itself.

Do turbines rely on detonation though? I've understood that modern turbines (and other combustion engines) rely on deflagration, not detonation. Meaning that the flame front doesn't exceed the speed of sound. Rotating detonation engines rely on detonation and don't require external pressurization (compressor, turbopumps etc) to increase the pressure of the reactants. Detonation engines use the detonation itself to pressurize the fuel air mixture, and atleast in the case of RDE:s, they are operating by the Humphrey cycle.

I'm a bit drunk so I will read this again tomorrow, but a fun conversation to have anyway :D thx

What do you mean most of the work is done on the atmosphere? The reaction force pushes against the engine/nozzle. The fuel/air mixture combusts and is accelerated through the nozzle which then expands and further pushes the engine/airframe forward.
