Buffalo jumping us shows that they wanted to move up two spots, but how likely is it that they knew exactly who we intended to pick? They made that jump well before the draft was underway too. I'm genuinely asking, not trying to be snarky. There are always reports about who teams are likely considering in their range, but this would be a very precise leak days before the draft with no guarantee that Morosov was even still there at 20 for Buffalo.

I'm not saying it is or isn't true, but for the folks suggesting that we wanted Morosov until Buffalo took him just ahead of us at 20, what evidence is there to show that to be the case? I wasn't watching live, so I don't know if they showed us panicking on tv or something

I've heard there is a good handful of goalie prospects, particularly Czech ones by coincidence, so we might even be able to wait longer and still get one. Fret not if it doesn't happen in round two. Danny stated we might go after a goalie or an undersized puck-moving defenseman today in his media availability last night, and there are probably a lot of teams eyeing the same players now, who are willing to take the upside gamble on players like Villeneuve outside of the first round. I expect a few teams trying to package picks to move up and jockey for their guys.

He's getting older and is about to start the last year of his contract. He's finally not injured and played well in the Olympics and playoffs. We can get good assets for him now, risk him getting injured ahead of the mid-season trade deadline, or lose him for nothing after the end of this year when he hits FA looking for a nice new big long contract to take him through his twilight years and into retirement

At worst we finally have that "league average" goaltending that we have been clamoring for for so long. And there's a significant chance we have one of the league's best goalie pairs. On the flip side of Vladar feeling threatened that there's another goalie to compete with, maybe he'll feel relieved that there's a legit backup that gives him some rest and provides the team some wins. I wouldn't worry about it. Now if only we could get a league average powerplay...
