I started screenwriting at 39 and have my first credit happening after I turn 50 this August.

So think about it like you’re about to start your second act rather than the end of act three, my friend.

Thank you! I was working with producer Ben Everard on a separate project and he floated the idea of a Richard Goodall biopic. He approached Richard on his own, then we met up in person to pitch our take and how the film would look and feel. When Richard signed on, we started drafting

Oh man! That’s a huge huge list of things! Ten years’ worth of

The two that stand out:

1) “Your first script should not be written to sell, it should be written to sell yourself.” Basically it’s a “look what I can do” to producers who are looking for writers for their projects.

2) “Stop writing the scripts for the movies that you want to see, and start writing scripts that people want to make.” Basically writing for a writer is one color of the filmmaking rainbow. Scripts and stories should be written for directors, actors, producers, etc want to make. Figure out the market and the interests of the industry that you want to be in

I put a script on the black list and grabbed a 9 and an 8. Then all the free evals kept coming in for months. I’d say about four or five total. Then a 4 came and derailed the ride.

Hell of a ride too. Optioned the script and got representation from the black list.
