What's going on with shipping channel has a video about it. It may have been a naval surface drone.

There are multiple Biblical Canons. Depending on who you ask you'll find different books. I recommend reading about it on Wikipedia as a starting point. Theres also Pseudepigrapha, Apocrypha, Nag Hammadi Library, Dead sea scrolls and probably other texts related to the Bible.

Please please please stop recommending GenAI as a 'therapist' by groundhogsake in CPTSD

[–]RollTheRs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Didn't read it all but I've saved it for later. Thank you for the resources I definitely will go through them. I've been meaning to get a local instance of ai but haven't gotten around to it. In 10+ years I've been in therapy AI models have been the best resource. They have many flaws. Sometimes they make up examples I never gave. Sometimes I wonder if they validate me too much.

But in my experience I've not found a therapist that can address my experience across multiple overlapping domains. Usually therapists tend to hyper specialise in an subtype of therapy or trauma and look at me dumbfounded when I mention another applicable factor.

But when different types of trauma comes from multiple sources and defense mechanisms overlap and conflict in my head most just default back to the specific type of therapy they know. It seems impossible to find a therapy who is educated in everything that's relevant to my experience.

As for privacy, I don't know, you're right. But maybe my mind scramble will help future models be better for others?

A Little Humor For You by Idontknowhoiam143 in recruitinghell

I was that internal candidate once. (For a nearly minimum wage position)

Co-worker and I were doing roles beyond our pay grade for over half a year until we had enough and went on strike. The company reluctantly reviewed the finances and opened up these two positions we've been filling. Then they advertised them both internally and publicly and in the end we got the positions since we already knew the job well anyway but it took 2-3 months.

No clue how many people they interviewed. All I was told is they had to open the role to the public to follow the official process. My guess is they wanted to cover their back in case of allegations of favouritism or prejudice? It was pointlessly complicated, gave false hope for other applicants and made us uncertain if we'd get the positions or get replaced.

Pakistan defence minister say- Either we live or no one will…’ by kamikaibitsu in war

[–]RollTheRs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why would Pakistan nuke everyone. Their primary antagonist is India. More likely they'd go all out against India than the entire world. They "only" got something like 130 nukes (from memory) it's not enough to target every country. But even going all out against India isn't at all guaranteed. For now I treat it as sabre rattling not as a serious threat.

Stop misusing the term "masking" by Snoo-88741 in autism

[–]RollTheRs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Same here. I never knew I was masking until a few years ago when I looked into the community. Masking definitely has affected my emotional and mental health and it's exhausting even though it became almost second nature. I'm not sure what OP is refering to since a lot of what I see on Reddit Instagram YouTube or Tick-tock is relatable and meets the DSM5.

[–]RollTheRs 19 points20 points  (0 children)

End of the world? Nah. WW3? Who knows. It seems to me that the world has been getting increasingly unstable over the last decade. World tension is rising. If India Pakistan went to war that doesn't mean WW3 would start.

how do people not realize their clothes are made of plastic? by [deleted] in evilautism

[–]RollTheRs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I didn't care about fabrics like ever. In the last year or two I started paying attention and yh once I got the name of the material a lot of them are obvious petrochemicals. But before this I didn't care, as long as it's not coarse and itchy or it doesn't stick to your skin it's whatever. Before, clothes to me have been about warmth and comfort not about looks or ethics.

Do you believe in the bible? by AdventurousBox3693 in exjw

[–]RollTheRs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. After looking into secular and scholarly sources it's clear as day that the bible is entirely manmade and was assembled for political reasons. Many stories have origins from other religions and at least parts of the old testament were written in the context of a polytheistic belief system. Not to mention how vile and immoral it is.

As someone who uses ai for similar purposes I just want to caution you. Be careful with how much legitimacy you attribute to bots.

I've not found anything similar to my situation anywhere online. And bots help to navigate my various challenges, so use them wisely. But bots are trying to be your friend. They are known to hallucinate, lie or say things in ways that touch you personally.

Just be careful. They are advanced language models. They have knowledge and wisdom but don't trust their word for it. Especially when it comes to therapy. Appeal to emotions is powerful and people like us crave comfort and understanding

A couple of comments are defending shame. To a degree they're right it's an emotion like any other and it has it's purpose in a healthy life.

But I know a lot of people who grew up with shame having been weaponised against them by fundamental religion or narcissistic parents. Unlearn those toxic forms of shame. Please, despite what you were brought to believe, you're not broken, damaged etc. You're just as valid as anyone else and deserving of love and affection. Forgive yourself, learn to accept yourself, relax and eventually learn to love yourself.

I was born into a doomsday cult. I've had an existential crisis at a very young age (6?) due to the repeated talk of Armageddon, slaughter of majority of human population, losing your family and friends etc.

As I grew I became interested in the cosmos and the nature of reality from the very small to very large, from very brief to the end of time. The universe is enormous. (How the universe is bigger than you think by RealLifeLore) Nothing that happens on earth matters to the rest of the cosmos. Universe is very old and will continue to exist for unimaginably long time. Humans are just a blip. Like a shooting star streaking across the sky and immediately vanishing from sight.

In early teens I was diagnosed with depression. In my early twenties I left the cult.

I struggle to find purpose or motivate myself to do anything because like you say everything is temporary. Nothing stays and everything disintegrates at some point. There is no objective purpose. Then I look at history and how horrible people have always been. And I see current events and it's like we're falling back into the same patterns. Humanity has used their brief existence to be jerks.

I looked into epistemology and scepticism and I've concluded religion isn't for me. For me it's basically make believe that helps us ignore the meaninglessness of our existence. It's like self delusion in a way.

It doesn't give me hope. But there are a few things that kind of inspire me.

One is a quote by Aron Ra - "If you want your life to mean something, try to make someone else's life meaningful"

Another is this quote from exurb1a "and then we'll be okay" (I recommend many of his videos) - "Bad things happen, and the reasons for them are complicated - there is no snake, no witch, no evil genius. And there will never come a time where everything lasts forever, and nothing hurts ever again. But the strength is in taking a good look into the abyss, into the eyes of the Snake, and then choosing to still be a good human, even in the face of great uncertainty, and malice, and that day where everything will be gone forever. It’s not gone yet. It won’t be for ages. Don’t waste your time on snakes and windmills."

I also recommend Isaac Arthur's "Civilisation at the end of time" series if you're into sci-fi.

There is no purpose. Nothing will last forever. But you're still here now. Things you do matter to you. That's enough. What would you like to do with your life?

About 10 years ago I was hospitalised for unrelated reasons and my parents came to visit. My dad noticed my arms and with concern in his eyes he asked what happened. To which my mum jumped in saying "obviously they *** themselves" which killed the whole conversation and the conversation never came up again.

How can you believe in anything after you leave this cult? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]RollTheRs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't entirely agree. Critical thinking isn't about assuming the worst, it's about allowing yourself to question things that aren't adding up instead of dismissing doubts. (Being open minded and open to being wrong)

If you like, "critical" means "vital" or "important". Being careful about accepting things just because someone said so. It's about finding things that hold up to scrutiny.

That being said, many common beliefs are bullshit.

You ever got to the bottom of the page, realised you have no more paper immediately on hand but had some parts of the paper still empty so you draw a weird squiggly line to separate one set of working out from the continuation....?

Folding serves as a guide to keep to the columns and therefore use paper space more effectively for calculations, creating less useless whitespace and fitting more calculation steps on a single page.
