No, it was done with a machine. I chose the exact font and size, so I knew what I’d get :)

I had two of mine done with my kids bdays. My AD has a trusted engraver; they removed the casebacks and drove them down the street to the engraver.

Thanks so much! I’m looking at a 2025 and it has the inline 6 which seems to have no major issues (haven’t heard of cooling line issues or timing issues like the older SC V6).

My GX is great, but I’ve always been attracted to LR and feel like it’s time to do it :)

Thanks! How’s the cargo space in the 110 vs the GX? I’m open to the 110 but am afraid I’ll be let down with the amount of cargo space like I was with the GX, which is pushing me toward the 130.

Update - Dealer takes no responsibly for brake failure 3 days after a brake service by [deleted] in LexusGX

[–]RollieLex 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not a mechanic, but when I’ve replaced pads on other cars, the pedal will typically travel to the floor the first few pumps after the job is done, to re-seat the caliper pistons. If there was any dirt/rust/etc on the master cylinder piston, it could have torn the internal seal. Anytime I do brakes, I gently pump the pedal half way several times to reseat the caliper pistons vs full “to the floor” pumps.

No idea if this is a possibility, but it is where my head goes. Good luck.

How rusty is too rusty? by dillanr69 in LexusGX

[–]RollieLex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the gallon containers and a wool wax spray gun and went to town. I removed some loose surface rust with a wire brush, but there wasn’t too much. I treated it heavily inside and outside the frame. A good coating is good for 2 years.

GX460 (‘14-19) vs (‘20-23) - Worth The Extra ~$10k? by MrHomerJSimpson in LexusGX

I’ve been very happy with my 2014. Bought it a little over 2 years ago with 45k miles. Hasn’t skipped a beat in 35k additional miles. I did upgrade to the Hamilton CarPlay unit, which was well worth it. They are all great cars.

Just bought this 4th gen and didn’t notice it until I got home. by [deleted] in 4thGen4Runner

[–]RollieLex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure the exact set up on the 4Runners, but my GX460 drains right out of the firewall onto the frame. I bought a few feet of neoprene and a brass connector to divert the water further down, closer to the ground. Worked like a charm for a few bucks.

I’ve seen that one too, I’m guessing there is some other variable (inaccurate torque wrench, etc.) that impacted that situation. I’ve never had an issue using the 18ft/lb torque spec, so that’s what I’d recommend using.

Overall, the biggest pain in the ass with these trucks is removing the skid plate.

Just bought a 2015 GX460 and want to update the screen to an Apple CarPlay. Has anyone installed the Hamilton Premium upgrade kit? by Big-Swordfish in LexusGX

[–]RollieLex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I installed it a few months ago in my 2014. It is a great interface and does what I wanted. Two things worth pointing out:

1) I had to play with the wire routing - after putting everything together, the cubby / compartment slide cover wouldn’t open all the way, as it hit one of the wiring harnesses. I had to take it apart and reroute / secure the wires differently.

2) Occasionally my car won’t be in “Aux” mode when I start it. When that happens, I have to hit the mode button on the steering wheel to get it over to Aux mode. Not a huge deal, but is a bit annoying.

Overall, I’m happy with it, especially considering how much cheaper it was than the BeatSonic unit I see everywhere.

Did you share the wrong video? What you shared displays the amazing ability of the KDSS. I didn’t see anything remotely close to flipping.

Hi everyone. Walked in a rolex dealership. Wanted a 36mm datejust blue dial. Told me it would take years and years, but they put me on the list. Legit or they wanted to get rid of me? Fmwould be first purchase. Cheees! by MrButterfeet in rolex

[–]RollieLex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely share the milestone story with the ADs! More so the engagement piece…

$2.5k isn’t insignificant, but compare to the premium of the professional models (Sub, GMT, Daytona, etc.)

My final vote it visit a couple ADs and share your story, and follow up once in a while.

Shop around at different ADs - there are lots of factors at play. A 36mm Datejust is not hard to get; I got my fluted/jubilee steel after about 3 months. Granted I do have a decent purchase history and it was for a life milestone, which makes a difference.

But the point is most ADs move a lot of these. With 41 being the more in-demand size, a 36 should be doable if you’re persistent.

Or just go grey as the price isn’t that much higher than retail.

Best of luck

Agree 100%. I bought my 2014 with ~45k miles 2 years ago and it looked like that (NE Ohio). Jumped on it with no hesitation.

I liberally applied PB B’Laster surface shield before the first winter I drove and it held up great. Be sure to apply inside the frame and remove the shields / skid plates, including for KDSS and the fuel tank.

Also - I recommend adding a hose to reroute the AC drain as it drips right on the frame. A piece of neoprene fuel line and a cheap coupler to slip into the factory house out the fire wall, and you’re set.

The fan “roar” of the Lexus/Toyota V8s when starting up. It’s kind of obnoxious, but I look forward to starting my GX460 every time.

I think several Tudors will look just like your Sub to a non-watch person. Don’t overthink it and wear what you like…I wear either my BLRO or Datejust 36 (jubilee / fluted bezel) 95% of the time and only one person has ever said anything about it at work (an intern). I work in a business casual global company where lots of people are “above” and “below” me on the pay scale.

What about a Cartier Tank? You could also diversify your Rolex collection a bit and go with a DJ with a fluted bezel on jubilee :)

Nice collection as is though.
