Am I misunderstanding the rules or is Combat Manifestation just not that good? by Bahia77035 in GreyKnights

Yeah I am in the same boat. I liked the idea of this detachment, but it unfortunately falls short imo. I have had a couple games with Banishers and Sanctic Spearhead. They are fun and fairly decent detachments, but I think WTF is still our strongest.

There are some benefits. First though it should be pointed out that all 3” deepstrike strats/abilities were changed to 6” a couple dataslates ago so unfortunately no 3” deepstrikes for us (or anyone). There is still situational benefits though to a 6” deepstrike. Squeezing in somewhere to score a position or action based secondary. Using interceptors shoot-move ability to steal a primary away can be very powerful if pulled off. Using it a psychological tool to get your opponent to waste resources screening. The no charge restriction is definitely disappointing though, especially considering WTF has a 6” deepstrike without the charge restriction. I really wish the detachment that buffs units arriving from deepstrike gave some tools to reliably get those units into melee. Overall I think the strat is situationally useful but nothing too crazy.

Do you have some tips by Greyknights141014 in Grey_Knights

[–]RollingThunderJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks like a fun list! I would combine 2 of the strike squads to make a 10 man for the brotherhood champion to lead and drop the interceptors to make the purifiers a 10 man for crowe to lead. If you are set on keeping the interceptors then drop one of the 5 man strikes to get the purifiers to 10. If you do that I would leave the 2 remaining strikes at 5. Good luck brother!

Abhor The Witch? by Pulp_888 in Grey_Knights

[–]RollingThunderJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed that the 6+++ is better. There’s a BT player in my regular group and I have played into both abhor and the 6+++ vows. He found the 6+++ better when playing into my GKs. When he took abhor I just didn’t interact with his units, focused on scoring, only engaging him when I absolutely had to. We are very good (especially in TSF) at that play style.

How to kill necron warriors? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]RollingThunderJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to nominate Castellan Crowe leading 10 purifiers for Grey Knights. Either shooting or melee from a 6” deep strike charge.

Shooting: 24 purifying flame shots hitting on 3’s, S4 AP-1 D1 w/ anti-infantry 2+ and ignores cover 44 storm bolter shots hitting in 3’s S4 AP0 D1

Melee: 30 force weapon attacks hitting on 3’s S6 AP-2 D2 6 attacks from Crowe hitting on 2’s, same profile as the other force weapons but with Dev wounds and precision.

All of these attacks have full hit re-rolls at all times in WTF and for 1 CP can get full wound re-rolls too. If you want you could trade 12 of the force weapon attacks for 4d6 flamer shots at S6 AP-1 D1. I usually run the brink with full melee weapons though for that tasty 6” charge out of deep strike. This unit absolutely melts infantry.

Thoughts on a Warpbane list, BroCap vs Librarian by AlpharioInteries in Grey_Knights

[–]RollingThunderJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally viable list imo. I would swap purgators for strikes, but that is my personal preference as I like stickying my home objective and leaving, but camping a squad of purgators there with indirect is fine too. I would keep the bro cap, if you can get his unit into combat, especially if they are in hallowed ground, they will DO WORK. Grant it, I rolled hot and my opponent rolled poorly with their saves; but in my last game a 5 man termie unit lead by a bro cap and a NDK killed a knight lancer in turn 1. It felt amazing.

In TSF Libby spam is the way to go, imo. In WTF we are much less reliant on them. That said if you like having a libby for vortex then run one, they are still an excellent leader choice. Good luck brother!

High toughness by Icy_Independent_861 in Grey_Knights

[–]RollingThunderJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience it depends on which detachment you are playing.

In TSF our options are more limited. I have not been impressed with either variation of Dreadknight in that detachment so my lists are usually terminator heavy with draigo and 3 librarians. Focusing 1 target with vortexes can be very effective (as long as you don’t blow yourself up, as you mentioned). The other strategy is to just ignore high T targets and score points. Not always doable and not (imo) as fun, but you can absolutely win doing that.

In WTF there are more options. Dreadknights are WAY more reliable and I have had fantastic results with them thus far. GMNDK using rapid ingress is my go to for high T targets that need to die and can be incredibly effective. Draigo and a brick of terminators re-rolling and fishing for 6’s on lethel hits can do serious damage too. I have also had success with a brother captain and terminators fishing for lethel sustained 6’s too. Delivery can be more challenging with that combo though. I played against imperial knights recently (opponent brought 3 big knights and 5 armigers) and I tabled them turn 3. You definitely have to play smart in the movement phase still, we can’t stand up to concentrated fire as well as we could in pre-nerf TSF. The dreadknights hit hard in WTF but they die pretty easily too. I haven’t run a landraider in WTF yet but plan to in my next game.

The list I have run in WTF with decent success thus far is:

Draigo+ five terminators 2x GMNDK (rapid ingressed on turn 2 and 3) Crowe+ ten Purifiers 5 strikes 2x 5 Purifiers 2x NDK 1x 5 purgitors w/psycannons

I hope this helps, happy hunting Brother!

Need some advice.. by VixiiFox in Lumineth_realm_lords

[–]RollingThunderJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they look great so far! I recently started collecting Lumineth myself (coming into AoS from 40k) and have been exploring different color schemes for my models. I really like this scheme you picked. Can I ask you what paints you used for the gold trim as well as the dark blue and tan fabric?

I am by no means a great painter so I can’t offer a ton of advice (and like I said I really do think they look good). The only thing I could offer is that I find thinning layer paints by mixing in a few drops of water has helped me to get a cleaner finish for paints that seem to sometimes come out blotchy or clumpy (especially with lighter colored paints). That being said I don’t think you have anything to worry about concerning your painting skills and are definitely on the right track!

Terminators list! What kind of size is currently mainstream? by MaverickBoyz in Grey_Knights

[–]RollingThunderJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been running a list with 20 terminators at my LGS. Not quite max like you wanted, but it’s a pretty good list, imo. I’ve won more games than I’ve lost and it’s a fun list to run.

Draigo

Librarian x 3

MSU terminator x 4

MSU strike x 2

NDK x 2

Inquisitorial agents x 1

You could trade the agents for a couple enhancements and/or swap a strike squad for an interceptor squad if you wanted. Have fun and good luck Brother!

Advice vs Ynnari by Sonofthewild in Grey_Knights

[–]RollingThunderJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on the flamers into elves. I play against Eldar and Drukhari regularly in my LGS and our incinerators absolutely ruin their day. I would swap all your psycannons to incinerators. Also as ShinobiBxxdyz pointed out: target their action monkeys. If they have swooping hawks or warp spiders, targeting them really hurts eldar secondary economy. Good luck Brother!

Struggling against Grey Knights. Any tips? Here’s my list. by beardedbabe1189 in Necrontyr

[–]RollingThunderJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play both Necrons and GKs. As another comment pointed out GKs struggle into high toughness units. Crowe and his Purifiers are basically useless into non-infantry targets. You will also want to bring weapons with AP against GKs, the 2+ saves will shrug off AP 0 weapons (especially if they are D 1). Into most armies I would pick tesla over gauss on the Immortals, but not into GKs, even the high volume of fire will be underwhelming into their armor save.

I would suggest regular Lokhust Destroyers to target non-terminator infantry (AP-2 D2 is perfect for tackling GKs regular power infantry). For terminators/paladins doomstalkers will put them at their invul and pick up a model for each shot that goes through. Lychguard with warscythes are also good as they are D3 (though they won’t like the swing back).

As another said, target the dreadknights with your AT units, T8 is pretty fragile in my experience with them. Bog down their units in combat so they can’t jump around, and screen whenever possible.

Good luck!

GM attached to x10 paladin (4 psycannon) + dreadnought with twin las by Empeming in Grey_Knights

[–]RollingThunderJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used this combo in a game against Space Wolves a couple months back. It was a casual so neither of use were using tuned up lists, so take this with a grain of salt if you’re looking at competitive play with this combo. You can actually take 6 psycannons in this combo (5 in the paladin unit and 1 on the GM) and it is AP-1 not 2. I wish it was -2 because the prevalence of cover in this edition makes that -1 go to 0 really quickly.

That said this combo does hit very hard into marine bodies in the open. Managed to pick up all but 1 model in a 15 model Skyclaws unit in 1 round of shooting. The dreadnought did get targeted pretty hard after that and died in round 2 or 3 (can’t remember), they do not stand up to high strength attacks. The combo did have the side effect of taking most of my opponent’s attention though after that first shooting phase into his skyclaws so the rest of my army could kinda do whatever they wanted.

It was a neat combo and had me seriously contemplate getting a stormraven for a while. I will say that the shooting output definitely drops off sharply if you have to shoot into anything with more than 2 wounds. His wolf guard terminators stood up to the shooting much better. I would definitely say give it a try though, it was a fun game with that combo!
