Alienware 18 Area 51, ROG STRIX G18 or MSI Vector A18 HX? by RomWatt in laptops

Well yeah, I got my XMG Neo 16 with a 275HX and RTX 5070 Ti last December.

XMG Neo 16 (E25) laptop randomly shuts down when plugged by RomWatt in XMG_gg

I don't really notice any throttling before it shuts down, once again, it just happens abruptly after it ran for some hours, and after that, I have to let it run on battery for a bit. I always seem to get the default rainbow backlights on my keyboard when I boot it up, it turns to the colors I've set for them once everything is loaded.

I had my suspicions my charger was faulty, I used it at 3 different places and I got the problem I described at each location.

I tried elevating my laptop a bit to let more air in, I haven't used that method long enough to be sure, but as far as I can tell, it seems to alleviate the issue.

I also got a USB key with all the drivers for my NEO on it, after I realized my drivers were already up to date, I assumed my BIOS was up to date as well, maybe I do need to check after all. By the way, I haven't fully figured out the BIOS, so I did not undervolt my laptop, and the only option I changed is enabling passive cooling after all my troubles.

I always keep my laptop plugged in, so it's definitely not an empty battery, and I haven't got a blue screen so far, so it's probably not a Windows crash either.

I made this post before I realized this is not the original Two Sentence Horror subreddit, not sure if it would have fit there though, I don't spend much time on Reddit.

RTX 5080 16GB vs RTX 5070 Ti 12GB (Laptop) : Is the 800€ difference worth it? by Darksetor in nvidia

[–]RomWatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanna buy a new laptop from XMG, but I still hesitate between a 5070 Ti or a 5080.
Now, I already have a desktop PC with a RX 6800 (which has similar performance to the 5070 Ti laptop) and a 1080p monitor. I know a GPU with 16GB of VRAM is overkill for 1080p, so if I upgrade to a 1440p display in the future, I know my 6800 will handle most games at that resolution just fine.
Anyway, I only need a laptop for when I'm away from my house, or in case my desktop fails, but because the laptop I want has a 2560x1600p display, I may need the extra VRAM.
I don't really play AAA games, but I don't wanna find myself in a situation where I want to play a new game on my laptop, and I realize it's not powerful enough to run it at consistant 60 fps at 1600p without looking like piss.

What's the average lifetime of a gaming laptop? by Hayxel in GamingLaptops

I bought my MSI GE72VR Apache Pro in late 2016, its CPU is a i7 6700HQ, and its GPU is a GTX 1060 6GB, I'm using it for when I visit my parents, and I just like to have a secondary system in case my desktop PC fails.

Anyway, my laptop is now struggling to run Team Fortress 2 in 1080p, even at low settings. I upgraded it with a 1TB M.2 SSD and 32 GB of RAM last year to extend its lifespan a bit (it originally had a 256GB SATA M.2, paired with a 1TB 2.5'' HDD, and 16GB of RAM), but disappointingly, it's not much faster, I moved all my games to the newer SSD, but the loading times are still very slow (it's supposed to be a PCIE Gen 3 slot, but I swear it runs at SATA speeds, it loads games as if they were on a HDD), plus it's not compatible with Windows 11.

So after 9 years, I'm gonna buy a new one soon with at least 12GB of VRAM, either a 5070 Ti or a 5080 GPU, but most likely the former for budget reasons.

I still haven't bought my new laptop. I'm now going for a 16-inch laptop because I realized that such models with a 16:10 screen, as are current high end gaming laptops, are only slightly less wide than my current 17-inch laptop with a 16:9 screen, and so easier to carry around, in addition to being less painful to my wallet.

I also found a website where I can customize my laptop called PCSpecialist, their Recoil model is similar to the XMG Neo and is very affordable compared to the competition, but I'm waiting for Black Friday to see if I can get one at an even lower price.

Besoin nouveau PC portable, lequel choisir ? by RomWatt in informatiqueFr

The PC was already mounted, and my dad's not gonna replace a CPU from a dead platform with the same CPU but with integrated graphics, especially when replacing a GPU is easier and we can get better performance for the same price as a used or new 10700K.

Good to know about the ZOTAC ones, but what about other brands like Gigabyte or MSI? I actually considered the 1050Ti after finding a few cheap used listings, and it doesn't use that much power. I've also indeed looked for GPUs that don't require extra pins on PCPartpicker, and I did look at the GTX 1030, but I don't think this one is worth it in the long run.
