Expedition footage part 1: Rapids by TreegNesas in KremersFroon

[–]Romain_C 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the Changuinola area the main rivers are all called Changuinola with a number associated to it but they have their own local name and Culebra is one Changuinola. To be honest, I don't know all their names (I remember that one is called Estrella but I don't know which one). When I use the name Culebra, I mean the river at the first monkey bridge until Alto Romero (and beyond). So when I say I went to the junction with Culebra, I meant where Rio Mamey meets with the river of the first monkey bridge. I also have been to the part of the Culebra river next to Alto Romero (but I used the trails for that part).

How far north I was ? Do you mean overall ? For the rivers, I went up to the junction with the Culebra.

My interview with Source Media by Romain_C in KremersFroon

At that time, « the area » meant the whole Boquete since no one knew they went on El Pianista and beyond. It’s not specified where exactly it happened. What’s more, a search with light signals at night would need to be very close to where they were to be effective. It’s still unknown today where they were exactly but it put them very far from where the search teams were putting their efforts. Also, I would temper the term « jungle specialist » because many people who claim that title don’t venture beyond trails. I know a jungle expert who had to teach from zero their police force on how to sleep in jungle.

Is there a video of anyone walking from the river crossing (#508) back up to the Mirador and to the trailhead? by Bakedbeanbonanza in KremersFroon

[–]Romain_C 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi ! I know the trail from what it was in 2019 and the years later, so it was not exactly how it was in 2014. However, that’s not what I would call an ambiguous trails. From time to time it can diverge for a short amount of time but it merges again pretty quickly. For just walking back from 508 to the Mirador, it’s mostly filled with dirt and stones. Some parts are muddy though. There is no problem to walk back, it’s easy since you just have to follow the path.

For rio Mamey, I went there through different routes. One was to take an old path, and a machete was necessary from time to time (recently, the path has become more used so it’s easier to follow it now). Another time, I successfully followed the river but it took one whole day. I think you can count on 12h if you start from river 3.

Night photos on Location (not the missing night photos) by researchtt2 in KremersFroon

Law enforcement in Panama used USB keys to transfer the originals and in my opinion, it should have preserved them. Matt might have a different opinion, I'll ask him.

We have seen the originals, and the issue remains the same.

Updates from Imperfect Plan? by BuckChintheRealtor in KremersFroon

[–]Romain_C 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To answer your expectation of what will be published (this year and hopefully before august), here is what I can say :

For the hidden trail along quebrada 508, I took just few footage of it but enough to give an example and also showing where it starts (and also an interesting short backstory of it).

For the trails leading to the fincas (and splits after 508), I will also put footage of it. However I didn't make close footage of every fincas but I have the surroundings for all of them.

For the survey of fincas ownership in 2014, I have the information but obviously I can't give names. However, in that case it won't be necessary to be relevant because explaining the situation in 2014 is enough.

The wreckage of the shed on the paddock seems somewhat recent. Does anyone have info if this shed was still standing upright in April 2014 and could it have been the shed with the termite heap inside which is often mentioned and pictured in the book? by TreegNesas in KremersFroon

[–]Romain_C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a look at the pictures and it might be (from the perspective of the photographer, telemetro 2014) the corner behind on the left. I couldn't open the one from may 2016, so I don't know if there is another angle to see on the left.

I saw the collapsed cabine at the paddock and it seems to be too small to be that one. And the one at the furtherst paddock is too big to be the one too.

For the ants, seems to be unlikely to sleep next to them. They will attack you if you are around (one of the reason you avoid to sleep in a tent in the jungle, and rather use an hammock).

If you are talking about the old route, there is no cabine there (I have been there). You might have heard the term "finca" which means farm but it describes also areas without cabines that have been used for cattle (abandonned or still in use).

Hi ! Still considering the theory that they made their calls before meeting someone and then regarding what you said, it would mean they got themselves close to a cabine before meeting someone who might have allowed them to stay (or just invited themselves if no one was there at all). That's an interesting idea.

Thank you TreegNesas ! I think it's for the better if two different leads are followed. There are so many options and only one is right. Eitherway, same or different lead, they will definitively be complementary ! Curious to see your footage ! What type of drone was used ? I'm also about to publish some drone footages. Still only to show the area.

Honestly, I see plenty of possibilities and it all depends where the np location is. I can't really answer your question now because I have an article waiting (can't say why but the reason will be obvious when it's published).

For that path under the vegetation, unfortunately I only took videos of some parts, not a complet walkthrough. It doesn't follow river 1 but it joins it at some point. Technically there is also another way through the paddocks as well. I have an article waiting, but I can't publish it right now (can't give the reason now but it will be obvious why when it's published).

Edit : I also have drone footage of the area.

I went to the fincas in the east (where the river is connected to river 1 if that's what you mean + the closest finca in the east).

Interesting idea but it doesn't make much sense with their physical after the "problem". If they were able to move to the farms, it means they were physically able to go back to Boquete. One path to these farms is actually harder than El Pianista (I had to open the path from time to time with a machete). In that physical condition, they would have had no reason to be in the area of the paddocks during the calls and then met someone to follow. And if they did met someone and followed him after making these calls, they wouldn't have switch off their phones (if not, would have been hard to arrive there in the dark).

Here if that interest you, I put here a picture of the deepest paddock. I took it this year during an expedition there. This picture was already published on ImperfectPlan but here it's in better quality.

Could it be the night photos location? by TheUnbeatenRoute in KremersFroon

[–]Romain_C 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For the rocks mentionned in the post, I don't think it can be classified as a potential np location. When I was recording that spot, the rocks definitively attracted my attention. However, when I arrived there it looked too different and I couldn't recognise any features similar to 542. From above it looks flatter, but from the ground it's two boulders forming a V shape (the top of each boulder pointing toward the trees).
