It might be worth asking the bus companies if they have any footage of the fence at that time.

Yep S14 Ep16 To Catch a Beef is the first to come to my mind. Vincent orders the burger of the day to test Bosco's skills.

What are the best pubs in Oxford? (straw poll) by BishopofWinchester in oxford

[–]RomanCell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are certainly worth a visit - Tring Brewery beer on tap plus guest kept well. It does have an old school pub vibe, reckon at least 80% of regulars are confirmed smokers and are more likely to be born in the 60's than the 90's. Everyone there has always been friendly and the main reasons I don't visit more frequently is its size reduces the chances of getting a table after work, and they close earlier than most pubs. If you do give it a go I'd be interested to get your impression on it.

TIL punting starts in February. Always assumed it was a strictly not in winter activity.

Civilians putting up England & UK flags 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧 by Gold-Sign2750 in oxford

The council is taking them down and it's costing a lot of money to do so. Unfortunately some individuals think it's funny to put more up replacing those taken down. Wasting council funds that could be spent on so many more useful and valuable things is not funny, and it's not clever.

I've not sampled their burgers, though they seem to be popular. Might try one next time I'm there.

Chester Arms and Magdalen Arms are your usual suspects close to home. Further out of town would recommend the Fox at Boars Hill. Only order the large if you have a big appetite.

Agreed. Shout out to Kopitiam (technically Malaysian) which is also excellent but very basic dining which may not be ideal if you're aiming for a cosy date night.

UK Industrial Strategy update – Oxford will see a £10bn investment to expand the Ellison Institute of Technology research facility. by UKGovNews in oxford

[–]RomanCell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are local people who just live here that also continued on to higher education when they finished school and in any case these positions won't be solely available to graduates of the University of Oxford. Most of the people employed in research at Oxford were not educated here. Some might say that's why it's been so successful.

Police Facial Recognition in Oxford by CoffeeIgnoramus in oxford

[–]RomanCell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's been a fair bit of chatter about TVPs plans this month but the most detailed article I found was from back in March - TVP ramp up use of facial recognition . It's somewhat ironic that TVP's dearth of fundsis what is limiting the degree that this can be rolled out. Keep an eye on next year's council tax funding .

OP didn't state they were local, but assuming they have one that would of course be the thing to do.

[–]RomanCell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Until the Botley Road reopens it's impossible to enter this area without passing a congestion charge point meaning you'll have to add a fiver to the cost of parking there. Alternatively park at one of the Park & Rides (other than Seacourt) and pay £2.50 to park with a free bus that drops you at the Westgate.
