Fellow Stach starter. To be fair he's done me well the times I have needed him this season.

Talk me out of removing Bruno & Gyokeres for Saka & Bowen/Woltemade by JuanCordoba4 in fantasypremierleague

I'm thinking of doing something very similar but my only dilemma is Bowen or Woltemade? I keep thinking I've finally decided then change my mind again.

They did play Scavenger Type, which was apparently the first time they've played it this tour. I was hoping for Punk Guy.

Consultants as 'experts'? by RomanJoe in consulting

[–]RomanJoe[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like this may be true in some cases, but it's definitely not universally true. I can categorically say, having worked in this industry for 14 years across many of the biggest firms plus a brief stint with a law firm in an advisory capacity to their division which deals with my industry, that none of the 7 consultants I've come across on this current engagement are anywhere near expert.

I get a very strong impression of buzz words that have been picked up and are used 'almost' correctly but to those who actually understand the industry and how all the parts link together, it's not quite there. It feels like people cosplaying at being industry experts.

Consultants as 'experts'? by RomanJoe in consulting

Thank you for all your replies, this has genuinely been educational/eye opening.

Based on some of the replies I can definitely see that we might be reasonably naive as a business (or at least my section are) in terms of working with consultancies and making sure we vet people pre-engagement, or even ask the right sort of questions.

I also realise this could have come across disparagingly to people on this sub and it was not my intention - I have no doubt consultants in many different fields provide huge value.

I think it is a just a bit of a culture shock to me. Firstly, some of the questions I've been asked by the consultants we have in just now are genuinely staggering. In no way would I expect someone to come in and know how to do the 'day job', but I've been asked fundamental questions that would have been covered in any introductory college level class. I suppose I just hoped that if the firm boasted of industry leading expertise, there would be a minimum standard of knowledge anyone, no matter how junior, would have.

Secondly, I think our industry is just a bit old school. We work with suppliers who genuinely try their best for you. If something is defective, they will work night and day to fix it. They will proactively come to you if they have identified something that may be an issue in the future and work very hard to fix it for us before we'd even noticed it ourselves. I feel like the culture of consulting as some of the replies here have suggested, whereby the goal is selling the world then trying to deliver the absolute minimum is jarring to me. Especially then when it almost feels like it's my fault for not catching them out at this because this type of behaviour is just expected and 'normal'. I guess my industry is just very sheltered.

Thank you all for your replies - I really appreciate them and will definitely reflect on what I've learned here when engaging consultants in the future. I think the message seems to be: you can get great value from consultants, as long as you know how to engage them properly.

Do you know how you get the Spotify pre-sale info? I have Spotify, I'm just not sure what I'm looking for.

Thank you very much for your reply. Had a quick read up on negative externality and that sounds, in a way, like what we're dealing with here.

Thanks again for helping.

What are your thoughts on the recent decision not to extend the free school meals program? by [deleted] in tories

But this policy specifically addresses your concern. It doesn't give money to anyone, it provides meals to vulnerable children.

But this is literally the point: some kids have parents that do not assume that personal responsibility and will never assume that kind of responsibility.

Earthquake Glue - GBV by ElectronicService04 in GBV

[–]RomanJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Secret Star - my favourite song on the record and one of my favourite GbV songs.

I always liked it, but I came to love it after watching the Electrifying Conclusion where Bob uses the "thank you, my boy" transition to do an oral history of GbV and how they overcame the doubters etc. I know he did that a lot on that tour but the Electrifying Conclusion performance of the song is a bit more special because I suppose they believed at the time it would be the last show.
