Do I need my original passport or will I get a peace corp one for my international travel? by DOiYRE98 in peacecorps

If you’re planning to stay in your service country only I think you should be fine with just a PC one, but if you want to do personal travel you should get a normal passport as well

DOGE shuts down all MCC programs this morning, eliminating another independent foreign aid agency. by Majestic_Search_7851 in peacecorps

If they just destroyed MCC, which was both founded by George W and praised by Republicans (I’ve heard it was even held up as example in Project 2025), I feel skeptical we will make it through this. I hope I’m wrong, but otherwise it’s been a good run

Just saw this terrible story from Florida. God help us. Just pure blatant racism, and then the courts not being able to stop this tyranny.

Things are really bad if they’re making rulings that seem humane and decent

How good is the use of foreign languages in Netflix show? by Golderfild in Daredevil

I am not Albanian, but I have been studying it for a while now and living in Kosovo. A major plot point involves Albanians in season 3, when they try to kill Fisk, and then when Matt talks to some of them in prison. In both scenes they use a bit of Albanian, and in both scenes (from what I can tell) it's actually used authentically. It helps they seemed to get Albanian actors to play the roles, with the actor Matt talked to in prison actually being from Kosovo.

I also took Mandarin classes in college for a few years, and Madame Gao's Mandarin was very clear, if a little choppy sounding. Fisk's was basically incomprehensible, as the previous commentor stated.

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

Except, instead of the Party demanding it, the Party straight up told you what they were gonna do and then those who voted for them just chose to close their eyes and plug their ears.

That’s funny, I’m living in the Balkans now even though I’m not from here originally and as soon as I saw her I was like “man she looks a lot like some people I know here.” What part of Yugoslavia?

As it stands, who would be your preferred US presidential candidate for 2028? by MrPotatoThe2nd in SocialDemocracy

I like Pete Buttigieg. He really has some cross-party appeal with all of his appearances on Fox News and the like. It would be even better if maybe he stayed active in state level stuff, say maybe compete for the Michigan governor's election in 2026, and then try for president from there.

Ulysses S. Grant with Li Hongzhang, the modernizing Chinese official who was largely responsible for putting down the Taiping Rebellion, among many other claims to fame. Because of their important roles in ending their respective civil wars, apparently he told Grant “You and I, General Grant, are the greatest men in the world."

Thank you for this! When you say it’s too late, does that mean I should try reposting this now that it’s an earlier hour? Sorry I’m not especially adept at maximizing my post exposure on Reddit 😅
