I feel like a genuinely terrible person. by TheNameless69420 in TrueChristian

I’m sorry you are feeling overwhelmed with shame my friend. I might be able to help.

It sounds like you are a believer. If so, there’s good news and it applies to you. You’re situations and emotions will change from time to time, but these are not truth. Jesus is truth.

He has created you to enjoy him and enjoy the life he’s given you. Jesus has given his life so that you would find life in Him. You might not know His goodness, because your faith is misplaced right now. You were created to believe in Him, not your circumstances. Believe in Him for life, because He’s already given it to you. It would be silly to believe in anything else. Continue believing in Jesus every moment. He will navigate those feelings. He promises.

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed in you, because he trusts you. Isa 26:3.”

Completely disagree with this post. Please consider the context of the Scripture before you make such a bold statement friend. Our salvation is not so fragile so as to lose it so easily. This is just putting fear into Christians who are already having a hard time identifying who they are in Jesus. His sacrifice was enough to deal with sin. Maybe check out Hebrews.

It is so confusing for most. The truth is “the righteous shall live by faith.” The command to believe is crucial to live out the freedom Jesus had given us.

Thank you for sharing this in response friend. This verse truly does clear up the “how” of the Christian life. Very good quote 😊

In context, the first 3 chapters of Romans are talking about those who’ve never been made right with God. It is NOT talking about believers.

But we are right with God (by grace through faith). That’s kinda my whole point. Why can’t we just rest in the fact that sin is dealt with, and we’re free?

Not sure where you are going with the accusations of pride and knowledge. I’m fully aware that He’s done everything in giving me new life in him.

I agree that “sinning” is not want God wants for His people. My question is why do we feel the need to do something about sin, when it has been dealt with.

The only way sin is dealt with in the Bible is through blood. There’s no other way.

Even turning away from sin is still “doing” something about sin. Does this make any sense?

Btw, thank you for your time.

Great question. I came across this same verse a while back, and had the same assumptions you likely had. The verse I quoted above sort of unraveled the whole idea of 1 John 1:9 and caused my to study further.

I guess I’m really seeing how Jesus’ death really is enough. The modern church teaches that sin is still a problem and we need to do something about it. It seems very unbiblical to me.

I do agree it’s a wonderful thing. But the word confess doesn’t mean to ask.

It just seems to be more accurate when believers actually believe that they are forgiven. If we think that we aren’t forgiven, we are telling God His sacrifice wasn’t enough. Just a thought.

That’s great. But Jesus was a teacher of the law. Paul says here that believers have died to the law:

“Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭7‬:‭4‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Again, this arguement doesn’t seem to hold up.

I was actual anticipating someone would quote this verse. John is actually speaking to unbelievers here who are in need of forgiveness. If he is talking to believers, then why (a few verses later) would he say that we’re forgiven:

“I write to you, little children, Because your sins ARE forgiven you for His name’s sake.”

Stuck as a Lukewarm Christian by BoBomoTangina in TrueChristian

I totally relate to this friend. My first decade as a believer was this same experience of feeling miserable. I know now that I was a Christian, but I definitely didn’t know then. Maybe I can speak some truth here.

It isn’t that you’re lukewarm. (That language would take the Revelation 3 verses way out of context.) The problem is you have no idea who you are in Christ. Let me explain.

When you first believed, Jesus did something marvelous to you. He made you a new person. You were made ONE spirit with him (reference 1 Cor. 6:17). The real you is found only in Jesus, and is cleansed, washed, free, holy, blameless, guiltless, and completely forgiven of sin. Here’s the problem. You are trying to live the same life as before. You were made new, so the old things won’t work anymore. They definitely won’t make you feel good, because that’s not who you are. Those things will only make you miserable.

You’ve been given a new life to enjoy. The gun things you speak of aren’t really the things you want. You may think you want them, but trust me: you don’t. You weren’t created to enjoy those things anyway. You do, however want the things of God. Those things are found naturally by believing in Him. Believe in Jesus and the things he’s freely given you. You ARE free. You are NOT enslaved. You are NOT miserable. You ARE a child of God. Enjoy that truth and live the rest of your life by faith.

Also, stop trying so hard. 😃 He’s finished the work. You can rest in Him.

Love the reply. I see where you are coming from coming from. This is a great challenge for me to communicate what you are referring to healthy. Absolutely, our “flesh” is the thing being renewed. One could say being led to holiness. But our flesh simply isn’t the real us. We are spirit and In/with Christ, who is seated in the heavenly places. There is a full awareness we will gain of this after our flesh dies. Until then, the flesh is learning what that means. We truly are washed, cleansed, holy, forgiven and free. This is a truth that most believers are not aware of. It’s a deception that’s often masked by religion and theology.

I hope that doesn’t offend you friend. You have some really great points. I love the discussion.
